Body aches stop by eliminating Nightshade vegies?

Is there anyone out there who, like me, wakes up every morning and can hardly walk across the bedroom floor - due to stiffness & aches in feet, ankles, legs? I feel like an old lady with arthritis (and I'm only 42!)
I am now 4 years out from dx. I attribute these aches and stiffness to my chemo treatments (Taxol). I hate how I feel in the morning. The stiffness and pain usually diminishes as the morning goes on.
I am seeing a Physical Therapist for joint pain (my right hip) and migraines (constant, never-ending migraines - that only go away if I am daily meds.)
He suggested I try an elimination diet - No Nightshade Vegetables (ex: potato, tomato, peppers, tobacco). These specific plant foods can cause inflammation and fluid retention throughout the body. Sounds crazy, but I googled this and there is alot of information out there about this Nightshade Elimination Diet.
So I have been strickly sticking to this diet now for 1 week - I am supposed to give it a try for at least 2 weeks.
This morning I got up and NO PAIN at all in my feet or legs. I can't believe it! I am not sure yet if this is really working - I am hoping I keep feeling better each day.
Is there anyone else out there who has tried this elimination diet and had success with pain diminishing? I would love to hear back from anyone!

I haven't even heard of it, Barb, but the description of your day also describes mine.
I will also google and see if there is any help for me from it. I sooooo love tomatoes:(
Big hug, and thanks for sharing this one. -
Valerie,
It is called "The No-Arthritis Nightshade Elimination Diet". You'll get all kinds of info just googling "Nightshades".
The food I am missing most is the TOMATOES! I can't eat anything with tomatoes as an ingredient - that means no ketchup, spagetti sauce, salsa....I am doing OK without potatoes...however, I haven't stepped in a McDonalds yet (I am sure the smell of those french fries will make me drool!)
When I started this a week ago...I thought it was a bunch of bologna...but, now today with no pain? Maybe there is something to this?
I was just hoping that there might be other BC sisters who have tried this and it is working for them.

HI:
I need to try this one
as having trouble as well
with shoulder inflammation
Thanks for the info,
definitely, I have heard about
this diet
I am going to start on Bromelain
today from my naturopath
Best to you
(also did Taxol some years ago
and still have some effects)
)
I just love tomato sauce
tomatoes and oven baked
potatoes .. but -
Barb, I am 3 and 1/2 years on AI.I am a mass of aches and pains, like you.Only mine from Taxotere are long gone, but the pain from Femara will stay for the 5 years I take the drug.
BUT: I read early on that nightshades only have bad effect on rheumatic arthritis.
My arthritis is osteo.
Thank GOODNESS!Because I LOVE nightshades.
And here we are in Beefsteak tomato sandwich month.
Oh please! No way would I give up tomatoes!!
(Not even to see if it would help.)
Thanks for the sharing, though. And congratulations that you got rid of your pain! -
I'm with you, Joan - I could give up a lot of things but NOT my tomatoes! After all, I grow 14 tomato plates every year! Oh, ya just gotta get yourself to Chi-Town! In the Summer, of course!
Anyway, it is true that we are what we eat and if eliminating a certain item or substance makes a difference in our well-being then I say go for it. I think we all know what our 'trigger' foods are but sometimes we just need someone to point them out to us!

When I first started taking Arimidex, I immediately started taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements. After several months, I got tired of dealing with all the pills and became "neglectful" about the supplements.
I didn't have taxol, but over the last few months I started feeling incredible pain in my feet, especially in the morning!
I re-introduced Vitamin D and calcium supplements into my daily regimen 2 weeks ago and I am already experiencing a noticeable improvement in joint/feet pain. -
Nightshade veggies have long been listed as foods to avoid for folks with inflammatory bowel issues...for the reasons they are also associated with any kind of inflammatory condition. That said, the one that I know can give me trouble is eggplant.
