Feet!!!

I've been on Tamoxifen for almost two years. For the past few weeks my feet have been very stiff when I get up in the night--particularly my left foot. My left foot now has a little bit of pain, like a burning sensation, on the top right by the toes.
My feet feel fine once I start walking around. I have no problem going for long walks, even running.
Do you think this is related to Tamoxifen or is something else?

Kate,
I've been on tamoxifen for about a year and I have the same issues with my feet. My right foot is my worst but both of them are quite stiff and painful first thing in the morning. Now before I jump out of bed I first move my feet around and flex the joints/ankles. It helps a bit, I also find that after a few minutes of being up on my feet the pain/stiffness does go away. Did you ask you onc. about this? I asked mine but he is not very forthcoming about much at all. Would love to find a new one...

I developed problems with my feet on Arimidex. My problem turned out to be rheumotiod arthritis. A blood test will see if that is the problem, although my pain was persitent. Are you in menopause or chemopause? If so it could be related to the lesser estrogen in your body. I was reading up on RA and the feet recently and we have 33 bones in our feet, that means lots of joints to have pain. Also, if you had chemo (Taxol or Taxotere) it could be some neuropathy.

LuAnn, I have a friend who was in her thirties when she found out she had RA. She could barely walk her feet hurt so badly. Now she's nearing 60 and the poor gal has a terrible time with all her joints. However, I believe they have come out with better meds than they had when she was dxd.

I am having a time of it now with my feet even on meds. I have one med to help with inflamation and pain but am afraid to take it. Zometa is making my kidney functions running above normal and I am afraid the RA med will cause some major kidney issues. Kind of a lose/lose situation.

I'm on Tamoxifen and
had that severely on my feet last year,
started on my feet and then came up my legs,
and around this time by then I went for
some couple of texts to see what was going on.
Nothing out of what could be expected, arthritis,
the thing got in a way that I could not stand up
in the morning.
The odd thing was that,
I been on sports long years back
and along the time was always very active
so in any point of my life this shown before,
I had detailed XR's that shown that suddenly
I have flat feet, yep, apparently chemo
messed with the joins in there to this point.
Those exercises mentioned by lam,
in the morning and now and then do help a lot,
plus as soon as I started some supplements
and things like magnesium
and vitamin D's it was a HUGE change.
A good shoe with a very good feet support
made a difference too.
Just for you to get the idea of how one can
recover back, last year around this month
I was holding myself on the walls some parts of the day
to manage to do things like
going to the kitchen, or get up from my desk,
I'm 39 and at certain parts of the day
I was feeling as if 93...
this year around January
I went back to my favorite thing mountain hiking,
and by now one year latter, I already lost the count
of how many miles I hiked so far
with not much problems then
what can be the normal, tired in the end.
I'm not saying that it is gone completely, there's days,
and after the kick we had with chemo,
plus then being on Tamox or AI's or of the kind,
guess it's asking too much
for things to get back being 100%,
but it can get FAR BETTER.
Hope that improves soon. -
Interesting... I am on aromasin and for the 1st time in my whole life I have sore feet. My right foot is particularly bad, especially when I first get up from somewhere. I thought I must have hurt it somehow...
Its the pills... I am starting to blame everything on the pills...

LuAnn, if you don't mind what meds are you on for RA. My friend had to stop Plaquinel (sp) after years of use due to eye problems. Her eyes had to be checked often when on that med. One of the drugs she's on now is a steroid and it has put weight on her (as we all know it can). I have to admire her. She keeps on going. However, she is on disability now.
Shirley
Oh, she's on Enbrel (sp). -
I am on plaquinel also, 400 mg a day, Combgen (it is a rx folic acid & vit B6) daily and then Mobic for inflamation and pain. I haven't tried the mobic yet because of the risk of kidney problems, but the others are helping some. Days like today (wet and rainy) make it rough though. Methotrexate is something she can try also. I am dreading having to hit a steriod due to weight gain but I will do what I have too....
LuAnn -
She is on Methotrexate. I forgot that one.
When she first started being treated for this she was getting gold shots. Then somewhere along the line treatment changed. She goes to Duke. That's where she finally got her dx after seeing a nut job here.
Shirley
I forgot to say that she used to be on Methotrexate years ago. After she was taken off of Plaquinell they put her back on Methotrexate.
