Changing to local onc

I dread going down to center city although i had excellent care there. I am thinking of switching to a local onc. Has any one else done that? If so, how did it go?

    I have switched onc twice now. First one died from cancer in the brain and the 2nd one I was not happy with her bedside manner. I am extremely happy with my current onc. You could always use the onc from the city center to oversee your tx and care and do follow ups with the local guy.

    Good idea! How does that work? Will "they" be ok with my havning two oncs?

    Maybe someone will chime in that has done that. I know there are quite a few ladies on the mets board that do that and might be able to answer your question. You might want to try your question there.

    I did. I originally went to Univ of Penn and I agree, having to travel back and forth to the city to visit with my onc was getting old. So I switched to The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, which is 5 mins from home.

    The only issue I had was getting my records sent. Took 2 months and paying $78 for "administrative costs" of producing them before I got them.

    Not so sure if I'd stay with them should anything new happen in the future. Can't say I'm completely confident with them yet, but at least she gives me any test I ask for. So for monitoring purposes, it's working for me.

    LuAnn Thank you so much for your posts--they helped a lot.

    Sandy--I switched to a local onc today. Does it feel good not to have to drive into U of P. I felt my care while on chemo was so good I was reluctant to leave.
