Amy,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad.

I took great comfort from this saying when my mom died...

Perhaps they are not the stars,
but rather openings in Heaven,
where the love of our lost ones pours through,
and shines down upon us,
to let us know they are happy.
(Eskimo legend)

(((Amy)))...this poem brought me much comfort...hope it can do the same for you.

I am standing by the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
He is an object of beauty and strength,
    and I stand and watch
until at last he hangs like a peck of white cloud
just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, 'There he goes!
Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all.

He is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as he was when he left my side
and just as able to bear his load of living freight
    to the places of destination.
His diminished size is in me, not in him.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
    'There he goes! ' ,
there are other eyes watching him coming,
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :
    'Here he comes!'

    Amy,

I am very sorry for your loss. It's always hard to lose your Dad, no matter when it happens, but death is an inevitable part of life.

The day my dad died I was over a thousand miles away, and it was impossible to get there in time. I didn't want to stay in my apartment and hope & mope. I had to ride my bike and back and forth to school, and for some insane reason this poem kept on running through my head. Somehow it helped me get through the day. Maybe it will help you.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light

I am so sorry for your loss, Amy. Having lost my stepdad 3 months ago today, I know the road ahead is not an easy one, figuring out how to adjust to life without them. Try to get strength (and smiles) from your memories...hold them close.
