OK - just got back from the cinema (or pictures as we call it around here). My friend and I took all the kids to see the new Harry Potter. Well , it was good , special effects were great , but I am not good at films so it was about 45mins too long for me! How they are going to keep those kids looking young enough for th enext two films is beyond me!!

Rosemarie - too awful. i remember losing Mark when he was about 3. I had walked to the supermarket with the kids as it was a Bank Holiday and they had things going on in the carpark. Mark was sat about 7ft away from me on the floor , watching the clown . I turned to look at Catherine who was queuing with my friend to have her hair braided. When i turned back , Mark had gone. I searched high and low - catherine was most disgruntled to be dragged from the queue as she had nearly got to the front!! I was really scared as we had been stood near the foot entrance to the main road. All of a sudden , there was an announcement over the tannoy , by the local radio who were broadcasting from a mobile stand. Mark had taken himself inside and reported himself lost at the customer service desk !! (actually he had said ' My names Marky , I am 3 and my Mummys got herself lost) When i went to claim him they werent going to let me take him as Mark, who was quite enjoying the attention and free ice cream , pretended not to recognise me!! Finally , getting home extrememly fraught , i was met by Roger who had told me that the announcement hadnt just been made across the car park , but across the radio waves - so all of Derbyshire knew!!

    Godd weekend ladies

Will these antibiotics ever end?! I take them at 6 and 12 which is interrupting my sleep. However, since I have nothing to do but what tv and take vicodin (just because I can!), what the heck?! Monday should be the last.

I get the dressing removed on Monday. I am getting a little tired of being in the house so I may go back to work on Wednesday. Glad to see everyone is staying busy!

    hi ladies,

i'm in nyc with my brother...just spent 3 hours at the hospital. why? because i fell on a major pothole, tore a ligament in my ankle (hopefully no fracture although they don't know for sure because it's swollen) and am now on crutches with a hard splint and a soft cast. oh yeah, i can't drive for a week. it's my right foot. i'm so pissed. and now i have to brave the train tomorrow back to dc.

my question is....am i going to screw up my arm with crutches? how do i make sure not to get lymphadema?

    love,
    hobbling in nyc

p.s. my brother lives in a 5 story walk up...on the 5th floor. i hopped up 5 friggin' flights of stairs on one leg...sweated more than i ever have at the gym!

oh no Amy! Did you forget that your name is NOT Debbie in England?? How awful! Your arm will be fine (like I am a pro or somethin' ) and I guess your shoulders will get a good workout with those stairs til you get home! If it's not one thing, it's another....*sigh* Hope it heals quickly and is not a break, though I'm not sure which is really worse as I've never had a break (except for my finger!). That IS frustrating.

Michele..am looking forward to seeing your new hair streaks...

Tracy NY..you sound like you feel too enclosed! Hope you get out soon. I hate those antibiotic schedules. They can make a person go crazy!!!

Must run...guests should be here shortly. Dh is not around and they are HIS guests!

It turned out to be a beautiful evening, the sun is out and there is a little bit of a breeze. Dh and I took the pups for a walk and got an icecream cone along the way.

We heard back from our agent that the young couple that we here last Wednesday for an hour, they really liked our house but thought the price was a little too high at $283,900. Now that we have dropped it to $275,000 they are going to the bank to get pre-qualifed for a mortgage and will hopefully be back soon with an offer! Being first time home buyers every penny counts….told my dh I remember it well when we bought this house back in 1993! We used up our rolled change ($300 of it to close our house) and did laundry at the laundry mat for a few months as we couldn’t afford a washing machine.LOL.

TracyNy – you will be one happy lady once those bandages come off!

Amy – that sucks that you tore a ligament in your ankle…can you get the crutches that have the super padding underneath the arms to make it a little easier? Did you get the puppy this weekend?

Debbie444 – you have had so many things happen to you in the past year, do you have a few hundred lives in your back pocket? Take care of those bruises.

How exciting you get to meet Jill, give her a big hug and take lots of pictures!!!

Brenda – we are just waiting for that one offer, that’s all that is needed….

Ladies, have a fun evening…gotta run and watch a movie with dh.

Have a good Monday, does anyone else hate Monday’s like I do!

    Love
    Michele

Amy, I tore a ligament in my ankle about 20 years ago, and the doctor actually put a walking cast on me because he was pretty sure I wouldn't stay off it. It was my left foot and I kept fussing that I had to be able to drive my stick shift for my job (newspaper reporter). I almost literally saw a light bulb go off over his head and he said (accusingly): "You're that reporter girl, aren't you? Walking cast."

While the removable splint/casts are great, if you are really worried about the crutches and lymphadema, you might consider a walking cast. It's just like a regular cast for a broken bone, but it's extra sturdy, so you don't need crutches. My toes poked out and it went up all the way to my knee. You can't take it off but I only had to wear mine for two weeks. I took baths with that leg propped up on the edge of the tub. So that's an option.

Amy - Oh No!! I am so sorry to hear about your foot/leg!!! I couldn't imagine 5 flights of stairs on crutches.... I think you need to go to a hotel, a nice one... with room service.... LOL!!! I sure hope it heals quickly...

Tracy - glad to hear that you are getting bored with being at home. That is a sure sign that you are on the road to recovery. Take it easy though!

Debbie - how in the heck did you shut your head in the car door? I can't even imagine. Ladies - I think we are going to have to pad Debbies room for our get together. No sharp corners, etc. PLEASE keep you helmet on - you need to be OK for your trip!!

Brenda - thanks for checking about my job. Actually it has been kind of boring. You know how it is when you are new. Everyone else is so busy and you just sit there waiting for them to give you something to do. I finally got some assignments toward the end of the week. Now I just have to figure out how to do them!!! My building is nice - there is a Starbucks on the 1st floor (of course, here in Seattle, every building has a Starbucks on the first floor). There is also a Subway and an Italian to go place. Our floor has a cafeteria with cold food (sandwiches) and soup. They also have home made oatmeal every morning with brown sugar, raisins, etc to go in it (YUM!). We have showers and also a very nice patio with tables and chairs (we are on the 7th floor). Nice view of the Space Needle from the patio.

Well, it is past my bedtime, so I need to run. Have a good Monday - love you all!

Tracy in Seattle..I like your description of work...restaurants, good view!

Debbie...that is very exciting meeting Jill! She was supposed to come and be in our International Room. So, take a pic and we'll hang it in our room!

Cindy.. good that Amy has an experienced Ligamentist! (Yes, I enjoy making up my own words!) How are you feeling these days?

    Amy..how's the ankle?

Michele..sounds promising. Hope they buy it and this saga will be over! On to the new sagas...

I do have a little B&B. It works..I baked a breakfast cake and we sat on the patio with coffee and cake this morning. They are now out and about in the farms as they are farmers who are visiting. Then we will hit the area where my beach is and give them a tour of the ancient ruins, which is a wonderful attraction here. They leave tomorrow morning. But last night all the farmers in the group got together for a nice dinner by the sea...my favorite spot. I had never met one of the wives and we were sitting together. Turns out their daughter had Hodgkins when she was 16 so we had cancer stories to share. Can't get away from it!

Our soldier son is sick and my dh is taking him back to the doctor. He was there yesterday and got sick leave. It's a problem with the army because you have to see an army doctor and they are not in our area. Plus, they are on army bases and you can't drive in and leave the kids off at the door. YOu have to park and walk a lot. He has some virus and is very weak and can't even hold down water. He scared us in the middle of the night. I think he'll be okay but my dh has an officers card from when he was in the army and they will let him drive right into the base so that our son doesn't have to trek miles. I want him to get a liquid drip so he will get some fluids into him. I'm very worried he will dehydrate if he hasn't already. The doctor wanted to give him the drip yesterday but he didn't want it. Today he does.

I guess that's the news here.
    Have a good day y'all.

I'm doing pretty good, aside from food poisoning myself again last week. I feel so well, that I don't remember that my white counts are really down for a few days post each treatment. Germs that are on raw foods, which wouldn't bother me normally, put my guts into overdrive.

I've done this to myself twice now, once with spinach on a Subway sandwich and once with the lettuce and tomatoes garnishing fajitas at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Sigh. I'm smart enough to avoid salads, but I somehow don't see these "garnishes" as potential problems. I'm trying to be more vigilant now!

I bought our plane tickets for Chicago this weekend. DH and I were going to drive, but I have chemo that Friday morning and then it's six hours in the car. I figured a one-hour flight would be easier on me and I'll wear a sugical mask to avoid plane germs.

cindy...thanks for the help. i have a hard splint of plaster running from underneath my toes (they peek out...and i had just gotten a pedicure too!) to the back of my calf almost to my knee. and it hurts and i'm probably hurting it more, but i'm done with crutches. my arms hurt so bad. i just walk around and slide my food and hobble a but, but i can do it. i see the orthopedist on wed. and i will be getting this damn thing off so i can drive for sure...he doesn't have a choice! i like the walking cast idea. i just want whatever it is off because kelby the puppy comes home on sunday!

be careful with those foods too....no more food poisoning!!!! i'm glad you're doing okay though

Oh no, Amy!! Take care of yourself!!
I thought of you the other day, Mary Anne - a dragon boat team is starting up here in Indy!! I received an e-mail from the Young Survivors coalition and then my LE therapist brought it up too. She will actually be speaking at the first meeting about LE and exercise - I'm assuming reassuring the ladies that it's ok to "dragon boat."
Michele - keeping my fingers crossed!!
    Debbie- how exciting!!!

Ok - time to take off my wraps, shower, and head to the therapist! (4 more days!)

totally forgot to tell you ladies the best part of a crappy fall...

i was by myself in nyc visiting my brother, so i was freaking out about how i was going to get home on the train by myself. i had crutches and my suitcase. so, my brother bumped me up on the train to first class, just so i would have help...and kevin bacon sat across from me on the train what a fun celebrity siting! i had the giggles the whole way home

    How cool, Amy!
Cindy..I need to put you on Food Watch! Pick out the garnishes!!!! Ya know, some people think those garnishes will take care of their veggie intake for the day! hope you are over all that. Am looking forward to meeting you in Chicago. glad you're flying..will be easier and quicker. you are brave to fly out on your chemo day. I'm grateful!

Am tired and kinda stuck here in my basement. There is a meeting going on in the living room, our guests have our family room and my sick son has taken over our bedroom since it has a TV. We ended up taking him to the ER in the hospital in our are (got advice from the army base..weren't sure what to do) and he got tested there. It's not a virus but rather a gastrointestinal bacterial infection and he's on antibiotics. I'm glad they let us take him to the emergency room so he'd get tested properly. They gave him a drip (he has bad veins like mine..poor guy) and he was feeling better after that so they released him. He has 5 days of sick leave now.

Okay..am working on some things and can't find something so back to my search...

    Hi my sweet sisters....

A quick note this morning as I needed to "talk" to you all. My friend, Emily, passed away last night. She was such an inspiration to all and she lived life right up to the end. She taught me how to do it with class..... Please say a prayer for her husband, Gary and two small kids Alexander & Dorothy.

DAMN IT we have to find a cure.

    Love you all....

The way my chemo's been going is that I feel fine on Fridays and Saturdays. The crushing fatigue occurs on Sundays. (Sometimes starts late Saturday evening.) My white counts crash on Mondays.

So I think I'll be OK for most of our Chicago weekend. I'm kinda counting on the pre-med steroids and the excitement of seeing you all to push me through to Sunday. We're flying home at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and I'll be off work Monday to recuperate. (Maybe Tuesday, too, if needed.)

Oh Cindy - I just knew that all the green stuff i had to eat as a child wasnt good for me!! Seriously , hope you dont get hit by it again.
TraceyS - I hear you. I feel for her family.
Amy - you need a walking pot. I had both my legs in walking pots when i was 16. The only thing was , they made me massive and i towered over everyone! I could walk everywhere without crutches - even if it was a strange rocking gait.
Deb - why are you hiding in the basement? Go to the beach - thats an order.
My car is really sick now. The fan has been on rather a lot , but in true female fashion i have been ignoring it (if it isnt broken , leave well alone). Well today , as i was coming back from having some blood tests , I seemed to have a new rattle. i turned the Cd off to listen and noticed a red light flashing on the dash that said' DANGER STOP' and smoke/steam pouring from under the bonnet. Mark and i got out alng with my handbag and lunch boxes to sit on the wall (next to the jet wash - cue wet backs!) to watch a stream of something steaming run down the road. Roger came out and towed us in - Ive blown a hole in my radiator. I really should get rid and get something newer - but i just love it !! We shall see if it lives to run another day.

    Tracy -
I am so very sorry...it's so unfair and sad...I've had to post the following way too much lately:

Another star shines brightly in the sky.

    Amy -
Hope your foot heals quickly...your bro is a sweetie!

    -------------------------------

    Girls -
On a lighter note...I am working on the menu for our Saturday night get-together and am wondering if there are any specific diet/allergy restrictions that I should know about. If not, I'm thinking about sub sandwiches (from a FAB Italian Deli), pasta and lettuce salads, fruit salad and vegetable trays (and of course dessert - which will be a surprise . Does this sound okay? The kids can also roast hot dogs and marshmallows in the fire pit. Please let me know.

    Hope you're all doing well.

    -----------------------

    RoseMarie -
OMG - I can't believe what little Justin said! That is so precious, I hope you write that down somewhere as part of your "forever memories"...how scary for all of you. Something funny and traumatic from my childhood...we were in a big clothing store...I was about 5 years old and strayed away from my Mom...and then I saw a woman bending over looking through some clothes (she had her rear-end towards me) and I thought it was my Mom. So I went up to her, and from the back, because I was so happy to have found her, I hugged her around the waist (again from the back) and said, "Mom I love you". She turned around, but it wasn't my Mom! I was really freaked out! LOL

    Meeshell -
Any takers? Gosh I really feel for you! But the housing market is horrible right now...hang in there.

    --------------------------------

Hope you're all having a good evening. I worked ouit this morning - first time since Friday - and I am paying for it...my thighs are really sore. Bath time is soon. And, when we finished the basement, we had a steam room put in the shower down there, so I think I will indulge and loosen the muscles...tomorrow it's all about ARMS - biceps and triceps here I come...(and maybe I'll throw in some abs for good measure)!

Laura - you are such a sweety to take care of those little things!! Thats what always makes a holiday special.
No food restrictions for me.. well, actually there is one. I shouldnt have ANY food. Anything i eat makes me put on weight. In fact, i only have to SMELL something fattening and it adds to my hips. Arrgh..

Good luck to all our recovering patiens, TaDah, Amy and Cindy. Feel better soon girls!

Thanks for all the suggestions re holidaying in US. I never heard of Key West, will have to do some research. What makes it more tricky, we can only go somewhere where American Airways fly from Chicago (to get staff discount). Decisions, decisions...

    love to you all!

Debbie..I hate car trouble! I worry about my van which is from the last century...1996 Safari. I've been having to put oil and water in the radiator every week when I fill up. I told my dh he'd better check it out.... hmmmmmmm.... (he's a born mechanic!)We need a smaller car but can't afford to sell this one and buy a new one so we are a bit stuck....

You are funny...the basement is my studio and it wasn't a good time to get to the beach so I was painting and playing on the computer. Still..I was stuck!

    V..hope you are enjoying Taos!

Laura..Thanks for making all those arrangements! I don't eat meat so as long as there are those greens that Cindy needs to stay away from.. I'll be fine!!! Sounds great to have a steam room and shower in your new basement. I have never been good for those steam room saunas. Have tried them in hotels and my dh loves that and I suffer in there. Not for me. But I think it's neat to have luxuries of different kinds...my new dream for our house (which was my dh's dream when we built here) is to build a swimming pool I can do laps in. Our old dream is to have a jacuzzi on the balcony off of our bathroom..have already spoken to the architect (cousin) about that and he said no problem! hmmmmmmmmm...

Oh..I'd also like to open up the roof and put a skyroof over our bed but my dh did such great sealing up there with cement on the roof (flat roof) that there's no way we'd get through all that, so that idea is out!

Cindy..you will be fine. I'm sure you will tire more than the rest of us, but you will be fine. I'm so glad you are coming!

Well..first set of guests are gone and now I need to clean up the guest room and bathroom, start the laundry and get to the beach. Have to get ready for the next set of visitors who arrive on Friday some time. I do NOT have the stamina I used to have and find myself very sleepy this morning. Had to get up early to say goodbye to them and we were up late last night. I don't bounce back to easily anymore...old age.

    Amy - what lovely photos.
Deb - dont put a sky light over your bed. When it rains on the conservatory , it is so loud that we cant hear the TV. I know you dont get weather like here , but still , you would never sleep through it! Roger has measured up for the multi level deck i want - the materials alone cost over £1000 so that will have to wait. When i have that sort of money to spend i want my 1970s bathroom looking at first.
    .
The weather today has been strange - at dinner it was raining so hard that it was bouncing about 6" , now it is so hot i have shorts on (privacy of back yard only) Poor Jill - hope the weather stays like this now for the rest of her break!
Has anyone seen the new 'Hairspray 'film??
