Trying hard to lose the pounds!!!!!!!!!

Hello Divas!
Thanks Janet--I needed to hear that right now as I've been having a really off week this week--giving in to sugar cravings and that just leads to more sugar cravings! So I'll just try and be 100% in some of the other areas and start from there.
I got my period for the first time since right before I started chemo last December and it freaked me out a little. Have to ask my onc. what the significance of getting it again is. Of course with my period came all those chocolate cravings--you can all figure out where this road lead! My friend who joined WW's with me is not doing well with the program and I find when I listen to her complain about how hard it is, I wind up going off the program--is that normal??? I have to come here and soak up some of your positive attitudes!
Have a great week everyone and just don't give up! --Eileen
P.S.--Patti are you feeling okay after your fall?? That sounded so painful--so glad you didn't break anything! Hope you're feeling better. -

Good morning divas! Hope you are all well. I have another good recipe. If you are doing WW Core program, the whole recipe is on Core. If Flex Points, 1 cup = 1 point.
Best Ever Chili:
1 lb. 93% lean ground beef
1 large onion
1 can kidney beans
1 can pinto beans
1 can fat free re-fried beans
1 can corn
1 16 oz. can chopped tomatoes
1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
1 cup water
1 4 oz. can green chilis
1 package taco sauce
1 package Hidden Valley dressing (not the buttermilk
one)dry mix
Chop onion and brown hamburger. Add the rest of the ingredients (do not drain anything). Bring to a boil over medium heat and then simmer for 15 minutes.
Hope you enjoy. Not just for WW, entire family liked it. I'm giving the Core program another try this week. Even though it seems like torture to me I lost 1.4 lbs. this week and cheated somewhat. Trying to be better this week. Once I hit goal it's back to the points.
Patti: Hope you enjoy the ww meetings. That's where I got the recipe. - Janet -
Hello everyone, this thread is great, can I please join in?? Thanks, Janet for the great chili recipe. I will give it a try tonight.
I am a WW member, I lost 40lbs before bc, now since everything trying to get back on track, I had a devastating 3lb gain last week, I really was shocked, as I had been following plan and walking, I burst into tears and caused a scene at the meeting, I was so embarrassed I couldn't even stay for the meeting. Has anyone else had gains while on the points?? Lynne -
Lynne: I've definitely had gains like yours while on the Points. I've been a WW lifetime member for 8 years (25 lbs.). 4 years ago I gained some of my weight back after stopping with the meetings. I started back to WW on a regular basis 2 1/2 years ago. It's been a struggle the whole time, including the last 6 months since I was diagnosed. Don't get discouraged. And the MOST IMPORTANT THING, definitely go back to the meeting next week. Don't give up. It could very well have been something you ate. Anything salty a day or two before could definitely add on weight like that, especially if you were good on program. Have you tried the CORE plan? I was so against it being an avid Points follower. But I've done it the past two weeks. It takes some getting used to and I don't see me staying on it forever, but it does help get the weight off if you've been struggling with the Points (as I was). I'm so sorry you got upset but remember unfortunately it happens to a lot of us. Good luck this week. - Janet
-
Lynne, don't feel bad, I weighed this morning and since the 23rd, I have gained 5 lbs. Yes, Divas I gained 5 lbs. I was terrible last week with the birthday and my Mom visiting and it lasted all week and continued through this past weekend because my brother took me out to dinner for my birthday when I took my Mom home Saturday. So today, I'm really trying to get back on track. I didn't even have time for my walks last week. I saw Stacy Saturday and I had told her I felt like I had gained 10 lbs. - little did I know it was only 1/2 that until this morning. I missed my weigh in on Thursday. I've been a really really really bad girl!!!! Shame on me.
Do you think that those pounds will be easy to get off since they are new and haven't been around long enough to really get attached to my body??????
Janet, thanks for the chili recipe, that's one of the things that I've had a craving for lately. I'll try it once I get back from the walk. -
Lois, as long as you enjoyed yourself gaining those lbs., don't worry about it. They will come off. It's always hard when you have visitors. I gained 6 lbs. when my parents stayed with me when I had my radiation. Plus it was your birthday. Don't worry about it. You'll get it off in no time.
FYI: the chili. It's really delicious and easy to make. Even my hubby, who is totally anti-weight watchers (but could use it) loved it.
HOpe everyone had a great weekend. - Janet -
Welcome Lynne..It is always nice to have company here..WE are all trying hard...
Janet thanks for the chili recipe..Always nice to have something new to try ..Especially when it is broken down in pts.....
I never made the Thursday meeting..I was so busy getting ready for out of town guests...I really binged all weekend..........Oh well back on track today and plan to make Thursday meeting this week............xoxo,Patti
Hey Divas how are you all doing???? Come out, come out wherever you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Well ladies, I have really been a good diva.... I get my @$$ out of bed at 4:30 each weekday morning and go swim a mile before I go to school.
A bowl of instant oatmeal for breakfast, a healthy salad with a small amout of protein (either shrimp or grilled chicken breast or grilled lean beef) with water and a fat free yogurt (with OF COURSE the pink Yoplait lid!) After 2 weeks I allowed myself to get on the scale and I lost 4 pounds!!!! Whooo hooo!! And that is WITH my nightly bowl of ice cream,
I just can't make myself give it up. Each day I feel a little stronger in the water, but damn that scar tissue in the boob is killing me.... I hope it starts to stretch out a bit.
Stay with it divas, we WILL soon be so hot that NED would never even THINK of leaving us! -
Hilde - Congrats, that's a great weight loss. Have you tried Edy's Grand Light ice cream? It's absolutely delicious, well at least the CookiesNCream is. Only 4 grams of fat and 120 calories. Their regular ice cream has 9 grams. I've really been enjoying it lately and don't feel like I'm cheating. I'm impressed with the 4:30 wake up. Only thing I do at that time of the morning is get up to pee. - Janet
-
Hi Divas and welcome to the club Lynne.
I've also been struggling lately. Been very tired, which means I don't get to the supermarket often and therefore don't have healthy choices in the house (I know EXCUSES, EXCUSES).
I missed my meeting Saturday--spent the day at the pediatrican and then in the ER with my 4 yr. old for a suspected UTI. I was actually stooped over a toilet bowl, cup in hand, for 2 hours begging her to pee in the cup. She's one stubborn little girl, just refused to go, so they wound up catheterizing her in the ER--it was awful and my heart was breaking for her So when it was all over, I went home and ate chocolate!
I'm pretty sure if I had gone to my meeting I would have had a gain. Trying not to let that get me down. Lois--just refocus and those five pounds will come off. We have to try not to be too hard on ourselves.
Yesterday I took a long walk in NYC after seeing my PS. So I'm hoping that's going to help me get back on track.
Janet--glad you're having success on the Core program. Any tips for eating out and staying on Core? I think I need to give it a try for a few weeks to kick my metabolism a little bit.
Well, have a great week Divas. We can do this
Eileen -
Hi Divas,
Haven't posted in a while because I have been a bad girl. Well, I am being paid back for that. I have come down with the flu(I am never sick-I just get major diseases). So I am at my lowest weight so far. I have lost 13 pounds since I started dieting. But once I am over the flu and put one thing into my mouth, I will gain.
I am trying to be good. At the end of the month, I am going to Italy for a week. My daughter is over there and oh the pasta is so good.
Boy, this isn't easy. But small steps(I keep telling myself).
Saturday night I am going to a dinner(yes, food again)but it is worth it. Peggy Fleming is speaking on Breast Cancer. I can hardly wait. She is such a classy lady and helping our cause.
Judy -
Hello everyone!, Thank you for welcoming me to the group and for the words of encouragement. Nice to hear that we are all in this together. My meeting is tonight, I will goand I will stay for the meeting no matter what! I must say, I am terrified to get on that scale, I had a good week so we will see, wish me luck gals,
Lynne -
OK I am back on track after being off track for a while. I have taken the path of least resistance in that my body has so many aches and pains on a given day that regular exercising is not always possible.
Last Sat I started on the Akins diet and have lost 5 pounds and I feel great! -
Hi Divas you all deserve a pat on the back for keeping going with the dieting despite all the ups and downs. i havent posted in a while but have been back to checkup on you all. I have been sidelined due to an ankle injury for 6 weeks but still manged to lose 17.8 lbs so Flex points must be working for me. i treated myself to a ww fudge bar one day in fact bought 2 .I was planning on cutting them up in small pieces so i could enjoy a treat every day.... i took a bite of the first bar...it was so chocolaty that i polished the first one of and then shame on me ate the other one . Needless to say i havent bought anymore of them. Dont know how i am going to get through Thanksgiving this weekend .we all talked about that at the meeting today. Wishing you all a happy weekend. Big Hugs
-
Floss - I have a really helpful hint I learned at my WW meeting years ago and it works great during the holidays. Take a dinner plate and put anything on it you want to eat. Don't worry about points, etc. (Make sure you can see the other side of the table that the food is not piled too high.) Don't go back for seconds. Just enjoy everything you put on your plate. For dessert, have whatever you want as long as it is the size in a shape of your two thumbs overlapped and your pointer fingers touching (like a pie shape)- hope this explanation makes sense. Then the next day go right back to program. I've been doing this for about 4 years now and have never felt deprived during a holiday. Hope this works for you. By the way, excellent weight loss in 6 weeks you should be proud of yourself. And have the ww fudge bars when you want. - Janet
-
Thank you Wise Leader. Seriously NY Janet I followed your instructions yesterday( had to have thanksgiving supper early) and it worked like a dream .in fact couldn't and didnt finish all the food on plate and Yes i could see the other side of the table .my small piece of apple crisp was delicous.. I just did points for breakfast and lunch and then put a smiley face on my tracker instead of points
Right back on flex points again today. Will share this with my ww group.... on weigh in day Thursday.
Floss -
Hello Divas...I fell off the wagon big time... I am having such a hard time getting back into the swing of things...I have not gained anything back but I am just stuck...I know you can all relate...It is getting started again....I got up this morning and once again started the points system...I am going to take a long walk after I finish this post..I hope that I can stick to it ...If I can get through a few days than I know that I will be back on track..It is just getting there!!!.... I am not giving up and not jumping ship from this thread..It is what keeps me motivated to keep trying...HELP DIVA"S>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> xoxo,Patti
Floss you should be proud of yourself..The holidays are so hard and you showed that you had lots of will power..I hope you are on the mend and feeling better!! -
Dont give up Patti,we are all rooting for you. big hugs Floss
-
Patti,
I know it's hard. I've taken a few days off lately, too. We just have to make ourselves do it when we can. The good news is that you are holding steady. That's an accomplishment in and of itself!!! -
Well, hubby and I have walked out butts off this year, but my butt is still there!!!!!!!!!! So, I joined ww and found out about the core program. I love it! I never liked counting all those points and I only use a few of the 35 points I'm allowed weekly. We are still walking. After 3 weeks at WW I've lost 7.6 lbs. I think I've finally found my groove and the clothes are beginning to fit a lot better.
I ate at last night at Carrabbas. I had a salad, dressing on the side and used less than 1 TBS, grilled salmon and grilled veggies. I did indulge in one small slice of the bread. Core is a great plan for me. I really like the fact I've become very concious about my level of hunger and when I'm satisfied.
Leaving on a cruise next Friday, but we plan to continue walking, will use the stairs and eat sensibly. Will I indulge?? Sure, I plan to have a little dessert, but a bite or two is satisfying to me.
Sheila -
Two weeks on Atkins and I have lost 10 pounds.
-
Sheila: I've been a ww member for years. I was a die-hard points person. I was against the new Core progam at the beginning, thought it was too restricting. I've been doing it for 3 weeks now (didn't weigh in last week). I have finally decided that I love the Core program. Once I got used to it, it's definitely a good plan. I think I've lost about 3 lbs. on Core so far. Congrats on the 7 lbs. Keep up the good work. - Janet
-
Hi Janet, I was so happy to read your post, I am also a die-hard points person, I am afraid to try the core plan because of the same reasons you said. I am also struggling desparately to loose on the points right now, started tamoxifen 2 months ago and I'm up one week down the next but not making any head way. Do you think the core plan is what I need? Its a little like the south beach diet and I couldnt stick to that program, what do you eat in an average day, and if you work out of the home, what do you pack for lunch on the core? I am seriously thinking of giving it a try when I start my new week.
Congrats on the 3 lbs.!!
Thanks, Lynne -
Hi Lynne: I've also been on Tamoxifen for a little over 2 months. It's been a real struggle for me but I've managed to lose a little over 6 lbs. in that period of time. I had been just like you, up one week, down the next. But Core seems to have changed that. It is a lot of work (preparation wise). I find I need to have all the necessary foods in my frig or else.....
I'm still having a hard time with lunch (and breakfast) choices. For lunch I've been having fat free cottage cheese (not bad once you get used to it) and I add light syrup (drained) peaches to it (the little plastic ones in the six pack container). I also bring the chili recipe (I posted it here a few weeks ago) and heat that up. [An excellent recipe - it freezes well.] Some days I just take a salad. I will admit that I use all my 35 points for the week. For breakfast I usually have farina (I've always eaten it), an egg, or plain fat free yogurt (yuck) but I add Polander All Fruit to it (for 1 point) and it helps a little.
Dinners have never been a problem. I've yet to try the whole wheat pasta or brown rice (family would never eat it). So usually with dinner I have a baked potato. Although the other night I ordered Chinese (steamed shrimp and string beans with brown sauce on side) and ordered brown rice. It wasn't half bad. I could get used to it. When I need something crunchy I have 94% fat free popcorn. I also treat myself occasionally to Edy's Grand Light Cookies & Cream ice cream (1/2 cup 3 points), so satisfies my sweet craving (that's why I'm using all my points, haha).
- Janet -
Hi janet am going to post early this week yes hit the 20lbs off mark only 5 more to go as soon as i hit th e 25lbs I will call my surgeon even if it is only the day before my appt
I find if you cook the brown race and whole wheat pasta a little less than al dente. so the rice isnt stuck together then the rice has a nice nutty taste. I actually prefer it to the other kind now. have a good week. Big Hugs Floss -
Floss - You and I are so close. I only have 5 lbs. left before I hit 25 lbs. (I will then be at my goal weight). It's been a long struggle. We can do the last 5 together. Keep up the good work. - Janet
-
Janet, Thanks for all the food ideas, I havent tried the whole wheat pasta either, but I have heard from others at the meeting that its pretty good. I made your chili recipe, I love it, I didnt realize it was core, so I wouldnt have to count points for the chili?? That would be a great idea to take to lunch. I have a sweet tooth craving too, I eat 4 bite size 3 musketeer candies for 3 pts. That adds up quick when you do that 5 times a day:)
Good luck reaching goal, I have 5 lbs to go, I have lost 48 so far. Good luck to everybody out there and have a great day,
Lynne -
I have just found this site today and it is great to see the kind of support that is offered here.
I am an 11 year (almost) survivor and am anxious to try to lose weight. I have always fought the battle of the bulge and lost. I was overweight when I was diagnosed in December of 1992 and basically ate my way through radiation and chemo.
After that, I went through a period where I thought that if I wanted something to eat, what the heck, I likely wasn't going to make it anyway.
One year turned into another and at my five year anniversary, I decided that I had better start taking care of me, because it looked like I was going to be around for some time to come
Over the last five years I have managed to lose about 100 lbs but only 40 of them have stayed off - I keep gaining and losing the same 20 lbs.
I have now started the Core Program at WW and am really interested in any help that I can get. So far, so good. I have lost a few pounds but the novelty will likely soon wear off and I can use all the tips that I can get. -
Hey Janet!
I think we went thru radiation about the same time this past summer.
Here's what I eat on the core plan: grilled fish, chicken w/o the skin, lean beef, lean pork. I don't eat sausage or bacon - never did anyway. I also eat the omega 3 enriched eggs; whole grain cereals, oatmeal and cream of wheat. All the fruits fresh and those canned in their own juice - drain the juice. All the veggies. Baked potato is limited to one a day. Whole wheat pasta, etc. I think there is more you CAN eat than what you CAN'T eat on core. It seems the things that have to be included in your point allowance are the breads, desserts, and pastas made with white flour. Fat free/sugar free hot cocoa - limited to once per day.
Some weeks I use more points than others. I love Dove dark chocolates and one wrapped in foil is 1 point.
Last night we went to Bob Evans. I had salad, grilled chicken breast and steamed brocolli. I discovered I was satisfied and took home leftovers which I took for lunch today.
You guys correct me if I'm wrong here. Hope this helps those of you who are trying core. The key for me is learning when I'm satisfied. You are never to feel "stuffed". Use your points so you can have foods that are not core. Don't deprive yourself.
Sheila
