Shel,
Hope you can make the race....I'd love to meet ya! I know Deb from Alaska is coming to MI in June..wish it was that weekend. How bout it Deb? When are you coming?
Hugs,
Denise -
Hi Ladies-
Seems like I hardly ever get a chance to drop in much anymore. Looks like I'am missing all of the Komen Race excitement. I would love to walk again this year. Is it June 2nd? I will be getting with my friends and family if that is okay with everyone? Hope everyone is well.
Best wishes,
Michelle -
Dear Shel and Michelle - Pretty please join the team! But it is June 16th this year!
I was so inspired by your family's support, Michelle. It would be wonderful if they could join us. How is Phil doing? I think he must have been the oldest walker. Don't forget that we changed our name this year to "Wings of Hope". How is your job search?
Shel - hope things smooth out with your work and you get the insurance and work crap fixed. Been thinking about your health and hope that NED comes knocking on your door soon.
Alaska Deb out in our neck of the woods?! Maybe we can plan our get-together even if it isn't the race weekend. Does she have extra time to meet us?

Nancy:
I would definitely join the team even though I can't be there in person. Should I just go on the link and follow that???? That would be great - I would then indeed feel like I was a part of it. Let me know, okay?
Hugs,
Pat -
Dear Pat,
That was pretty cheeky of me to even suggest. You will be part of the team in spirit but don't feel pressured. I know my friends collect the pins and things and they don't want to miss a year for that reason. My DH also signs-up but doesn't walk or join the activities. So, if your don't feel pressured, sure follow the link above! -
shel: So glad to see your post. Best wishes getting your job and insurance things worked out. I hope you'll be able to make it to the race.
Michelle: Glad to see your post too. Sure hope you and your family will be joining the Team again this year.
Pat: I'm sad you're going to have to miss the race but our grandbabies do come first. This year both of our granddaughter's will be at the race with us.
Irene: OMG, how scary a shooting in your office building.
Nancy: I don't mind my name or my families names posted as Team members as long the last name isn't posted, last name initial is okay.
Mary -
Everyone...my GF signed up and I think Connisue will as well. This is going to be so fun.
Michelle...I hope you can make it...your family/friends/support group was such an inspiration to all of us. We would love to see you.
Pat...you will be there in spirit...I can't wiat for grandchildren. I will have to advise the girls that they are to deliver in months other than June!!!
Okay...I think we should have a luncheon before the race, and then a picnic the day of the race. What do you think? That way...all could be involved, and we would keep costs down with each of us bringing a dish. Has anyone been to Belle Isle lately...or am I insane for even thinking that? I know that Hines Drive has lots of picnic places. Any ideas?
I am so saddened by the recent incident at Vir Tech...my heart goes out to all of the families involved. -
Nancy:
Not cheeky at all - a good suggestion I would say and one I wouldn't have thought of if you hadn't mentioned it!!! So I am officially signed up now on the Wings of Hope team!!!
Mary and Chris:
Thanks for the kind words and the understanding about the importance of these grandbabies of ours, right??? Mary, I know you already know the joys of being a Grammy - and Chris you will too, in the not too distant future. They are complete joy.
Well, once again - I am now an official member of the team and I definitely will be there in spirit.
Hugs to all,
Pat -
Sounds like the team is really growing!! I Believe I'm up to 9 now. Not registered yet, but I just sent them (family) details this week. Hope to get their enrollment $$ soon and I will get us on the OFFICIAL list!!
Hugs,
Denise -
We are going to have a great team. If we don't get the most survivors prize, we may get the fastest growing team prize.
I'm still thinking about what kind of get-together we should do afterwards. A picnic sounds like fun but I think bringing food to sit the the car all morning may be a problem. I guess coolers should work for a couple of hours.
I haven't been to Belle Isle since I was a kid. Anyone know anything about Kensington Park? Isn't that off of 96?
I'm open for suggestions. Mary and family will be coming a long way so we need to find something fun to do where we can kick back and socialize and eat. Have to build our strength from all that walking you know! -
Dear Nancy and everyone else,
I'm sorry for being so remiss about checking in, but I've been trying to get my 26 year old who has had problems finding sucess ready for a job on Mackinac Island. Since she'll be gone from May till Oct. if things work out that's a big job. Also I've been having health issues again. I'm beginning to doubt my doctor whom I've always loved. I have alot of pain from knee replacement, knee that needs replacing, torn rotator cuff and sacrum that won't heal. She decided over my doubts that I should take 20 mg. of ocycoctin morning and night. The first week was fine. Then my daughter came over and found me wandering the house incoherent, unable to dial a phone and talking about people being in the house at night. Moni took charge and got me to the doctor and she took me off all narcotics and related drugs and my daughter basically watched over me for two day. Even after I was lucid, I was so weak I could bearly get into the car. I was wheezing walking up the stairs and couldn't accomplish anything. I should have known better than to listen to her (dr.) in the first place. When HF Hospital od'd me with dilaudid they explain that narcotics can accumulate in a womman's body fat until they reach a harmful level. Since I have been abundantly blessed with that substance, I guess that is what happened again, but I'm still going to see the onc. about lack of immunities, strange fevers, etc. Has anyone heard that a B vitamin deficiency can lead to the extreme fatigue? I am very anemic ande am now getting iron shots, but still drag around.
Irene, what a frightening experience!
Nancy, I'm still debating joing the Komen event. Last year I rode the trolley, but the 3 or 4 black walk to and from parking was too much with the sacrum I didn't know was broken. I wound up in the hospital the next Monday screaming with pain, so I'm a bit of a coward.
Ann -
Ann,
You are hardly a coward!! You've been through a lot of tough situations. Give yourself a break. If you can't make the Komen event in person, we know you'll be there in spirit. Take care. -
Ann - you have been through so much. I'm crossing everything for you that things will start to get better. Don't worry about the team. Just get better! Of course you will be with us in spirit.
Here is our team so far!

Hi ladies-
How are my favorite Michiganders...or is that Michiganians
Spring is one of the times I DO miss Michigan. I had a huge row of lilacs and a 3 story tall wisteria that were so beautiful...sigh.
I'm sorry I won't be in MI for the race. I will only be there for a week, from the 24th of May to the 30th. We will be all over the state, but it would be really neat to try and visit some of you. If it doesn't work this time, I will be back in The end of July and earl August. That time I will be by myself before and after Pinkstock, so I will be more flexable.
The walk sounds fun! Make sure and post photos!!
Deb C -
Deb: Please make sure and pm me, I'd love to meet you for lunch while you are here. I know you are going to be quite busy...but I believe you said you would be in the Whitmore Lake/Brighton area....just a hop, skip and a jump for me. Hope to see/meet you soon!
Hugs,
Denise -
Hi
I haven't been on in a while. I just started my radiation today. Only 34 more to go! I am finally feeling like me again. My life is back to it's hectic self. Running around doing things for my family and trying to clean the house from the last 7 months of neglect.
I will try to see if I can join the team, but my life is so busy right now I have so much going on. A baby shower for my new grandbaby that is due July 1st, My daughters graduation party and prom, and I am the entertainment chair for the Taylor Relay for Life that is on June 2 and 3. I hope I can keep my energy level up for all this through radiation.
I hope everyone is doing good. I am going to go back and catch up on the posts.
Take care,
Trish -
Hi MI Ladies,
I just completed my radiation treatments April 25. I would like to sign up for the walk. When is the deadline?
I am a newbie survivor in lower MI.
I like your slogan Wings of Hope.
Wing Girl -
Just started radiation yesterday. I live in Dewitt, just north of Lansing. Anyone here nearby? Not sure if it's been mentioned here somewhere but Lansing's Komen's Race for the Cure is this Sunday.
-
Deb, Denise - me too! I'd love to meet you for lunch if you find time.
Trish - good to hear you doing better. I wish I had some of that energy. Grandbabies come first of course!
Winggirl - nice name! Please sign up if you can. I think you pay more the later you wait but I'll find out a deadline.
Hardanger - Well, come join our team. Dewitt isn't that far for one day! Many come from far away (Chicago, Canada) for our get-togethers. It would be nice to meet you.
Welcome to the newbies. Keep watching for our next get-together.
Guess What - we have two new members who signed up to "Wings of Hope". Two gentlemen, Ronald and Brian. Denise, are they some of your family? Welcome guys if you are online. Or if friends of someone online, please welcome them to our team!
I "talked" to JudyB from earlier days and you may remember in Cure Magazine. Maybe I can twist her arm to join the fun again.
Take care everyone.

Nancy -
Rhonda, Ronald, and Brian are my very good friends...and Bret and I are so glad that they are signed up. Welcome to you new ladies...please try to join us if you can. We have memebers of all different stages of treatment.
-
The $25 deadline is 4-30...and then it jumps to $30.
-
Yikes Chris! Thanks for the info. I'm going to start sending email to my friends.
I'll post around and see if others missed this topic also.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Nancy -
Nancy...do you think you can post a few notes elsewhere on the site?
-
Ok - I posted under a few other topics. Where do you guys hang out? I'll post in more later. There are so many different topics now that I have to limit myself or I'd be online all day.
Kay - Want you to know I am thinking of your hubby.
I'm heartbroken about Sunshine. She was our rock from the beginning.
I hope everyone follows this post often so they can take advantage of the discount for the Race! Yoohoo - 3Bears, Irene, Denise, Anna and so many more, hope you see this. I'll try to send a few private messages so some with at least get email notice. -
Nancy,
Thanks for the Heads Up!! I just registered 6 of us! 2 or 3 more as soon as my niece returns my SEVERAL calls with their info I need to register them.
Winggirl and Hardhanger...Welcome! Hope to see you soon!
Hugs,

Nancy -

I just registered 2 more, 8 total. See you all soon!
Hugs,
Denise -
Woohoo 27 and counting.........
I have to say I thought our Team last year was awesome and it's looking to be even more awesome this year.
For those of us who will be walking can we stick together and walk as a Team? Last year I don't know what happened but after the race began we seemed to have split up in all different directions.
Nancy How about we do the Team gathering picture thing this year? Please, pretty please? I know both you and I aren't crazy about having our pictures taken but we can always hide behind in the back behind someone LOL
