Playwright - I loved your second to last entry. Are you going to go bald and beautiful? Wish I had the nerve.
dmknanny - you look beautiful!
I am feeling pretty good today after tx number 2 yesterday. My worst day last time were days 4 & 5. I am hoping for not so bad this time. I go for my neulasta shot - and while I know it is a good thing - I dread the achiness I get for a week afterwards.
Hope all the bar reservations from this week are tolerating their cocktails and enjoying life in spite of them. Gentle hugs to you all - Jacque -
Jacque - great to hear from you that you're doing well on Day #2. It seems like most of us get the worst symptoms around Day#5 - I've been wondering why - maybe because by then the strong (expensive) meds are no longer in the mix (the Emend or Anzemet) and the Decadron is no longer giving us a boost, most have had Neulasta symptoms start by then... Yup, all of that together could add up to a funky Day#5.
Am I the only one on this cruise giving herself daily Neupogen injections instead of Neulasta? I don't recall anyone else mentioning them. How about you other TAC girls?

Hello Fellow Cruisers!
Just returned from the airport dropping off my son, DIL and three grandchildren (ages 10months, 3 and 6). We had a wonderful Easter weekend...also had son home from college with girlfriend and my daughter, SIL and 3 grandchildren (8months, 3 and 5). I was truly blessed, lots of good food, laughter and just lots of love. For 5 days I did my best to forget BC and focus on family and the Easter joy. It was truly wonderful!
I've spent a great deal of time reading everyones post..you girls that have posted your pictures...you look fabulous!
Hugs and positive thoughts for all going to the bar this week. Praying for minimal SEs.
Taurie, so happy that you have finally received your sail date. Looks like you have things all lined up...my advise, listen to your body...when your tired...rest...etc.
Lisa, I'm on TAC and am not getting the Neulasta shot. First round, they decided to see how my body did..unfortunately, I zeroed out and they gave me the Neupogen injection and I bounced back quickly. This time after #2 on Tuesday they had me come back on Friday for a Luiprin (sp) shot...within 30 minutes I was having pain in my elbows, knees and a real heaviness and pain in my chest through to my back. It subsided in a couple of hours. I go this afternoon for a blood check so I'll see where I stand. Are you giving yourself daily Neupogen injections....for how many days? HOw do you think they are doing?
Nancy -
I don't like cruises but I will join yours. I am taking xeloda for bone mets in my shoulder . Anybody out there with the same drug? It's administered orally twice day for 6 months. Finished radiation today.
-
Welcome arnee!
Nancy, it sounds as though you had the PERFECT Easter weekend with your family - and lots of them, too (six grandbabies, six and under - you are blessed!). What a beautiful way to find a few days' respite from all of this cancer crap. I'm so glad you felt up to all the goings-on.
Hope this afternoon's blood check went well. No more of those funky "Luiprin" shots!
Yes, I am giving myself daily Neupogen injections - eight each round, Days#2-9, inclusive. Add in the infusion itself and the pre-infusion bloodwork and it means I get a needle for ten days out of every 20. Also, my tight-wad HMO only tests me once - 24 hours before infusion, never the week after. After TAC#1 I spiked a fever on Day#7 (101.6 from my 'normal' of 97.6) but it was very short-lived. My white counts are rockin' by the end of the cycle so the Neupogen seems to be working, but my anemia seems to be worsening. I don't know how bad it has to get to require Procrit or the like, but my MD didn't order anything. My RBC, hemoglobin and hematocrit all were low.

I do the Neulasta the day after chemo. No Neupogen at all and I'm doing TAC. Also I havn't had any se's as yet from the Neulasta.
Angel -
Morning,
Welcome Arnee! Sorry you had to join us but you will find great support here.
Lisa, you are correct, I did have a PERFECT Easter weekend. Must say I did go to bed early last night.. Did go for the blood test and my wbc where low. They wanted to give me another Luiprine shot..I said wait a minute. Onc came in and discussed with me...I did get the shot and hung out there for a while to see if I would have a reaction. Didn't so I hope this will do the trick. Go back on Tuesday for another check...keep your fingers crossed. It's amazing that there does not seem to be a standard protocol.
Nancy -
Welcome aboard Arnee!
Prayers for you Nancy, that your wbc go up.
So glad you had such a wonderful weekend. Mine was great, too. I got to go wedding dress shopping with my future daughter in law. I have two sons and no daughters, so this was a real treat for me! The wedding is still a year away - but it is fun beginning the process to the big day!!! Jacque -
Jacque, what a wonderful way to spend the weekend and it's wonderful that you have such a great relationship with your soon to be DIL. Did you find the perfect one?
Nancy -
Welcome to the March Cruise, arnee. Unfortunately, I don't believe anyone on this ship is taking xeloda. Congrats on finishing radiation. I know that's a great feeling. Did you have many skin issues with that?
Lisa, I don't know how you give yourself daily shots. Ouchie! You get the junkee of the week award. In my area, the people on DD automatically get the Neulasta shot the day after infusuions. Others, generally on an as needed basis. My red blood count was low last time when my white was down and I was given an injection of something.... have forgotten the name of the drug. Hope you can get all your levels where they need to be!
Nancy, I hope your WBC bounces back with no ill effects from the injection. Glad you got to spoil the grandbabies for a little while!
Jacque, Shopping for wedding dresses sounds like fun! I have not had the pleasure, but maybe my #2 son will hang around town long enough to get married here and I can tag along with his bride to be (when he gets one!)
I have had a much better time this go round (#2). I was only sick for 1 1/2 days! I did get the dreaded "C" twice, so far, though (this time). It is just not fun! I know at some point I will figure out how to stay on top of it without giving myself the horrendous "D"! What a balancing act!
I went to the Look Good, Feel Better program this morning. I was a little disappointed. I got lots of great make-up, but they didn't really incorporate anything about wigs. They had a wig room, but suggested I make an appointment to come for the specific purpose of getting a wig. I didn't really want to make another trip across town, so she let me pick one out. It's not a great one, but maybe if I can get the front looking better, it will work out well. It's always the front, isn't it? There were also no scarves or anything. So I guess in my area, it's basically a make up program. I did have the wonderful opportunity to meet two other women in my area with breast cancer and we plan to start attending a local support group together, so it was time well spent!
My friend just left to go back to the beach. I really enjoyed visiting with her and she cleaned and cooked for me. We also had a nice time visiting. She is a homeschooling Mom and it was precious break time from school, so I know she was anxious to get back home to get some things done. Hopefully, she is not too upset that I was not more in need while she was here. She did mention that it may have been better for her to come more at a time of crisis, but I told her we can't really predict those times! At any rate, I'm glad she came and she did say she had learned a lot.
Thoughts and prayers to those getting infusions....

Nancy -- Your Easter weekend made me It was great to read about something that was so much fun.
arnee -- Weloome aboard, though I'm sorry you had to take this cruise.
Jacque -- My situation is like yours -- two boys, no girls, and a wedding coming up this fall. I always said it was a good thing I didn't have girls since I missed out on the shopping gene, but I've really enjoyed having this daughter-to-be. She actually calls and tells me what is going on in their lives, without my having to ask leading questions. And she's been sharing all the wedding preparations and asking my opinion about things. Amazing!
MissS -- It's great that your friend's visit worked out so well especially since you'd been worried about it.
I bailed out on work today after 2.5 hours. Nothing major, but my mouth was hurting, my digestive track was making all sorts of weird sounds and moves, and I just felt too tired to concentrate. The only thing that bugs me is I wasted a perfectly good outfit on only 2-1/2 hours of work. LOL
Is anyone exercising? I did the first round, but didn't after the second round or third (so far), and I'm feeling like I need to get back to it. I think just some stretches and a short time on the treadmill would make me feel better. It's hard to get up the oomph, though.
Hope everything goes smoothly for those at the bar this week. -
for those of u who want to post photos, so we can see how beautiful u (or yr grandbabies or whoever) are, here's the scoop:
i found this out by accident. a lot of times, i come here when i can't sleep (and usually say Hi to Angel), and i look to see who's online and what they're looking at. and if the thread sounds interesting, i'll look at it, too. so, here's what i found out (on a thread called something like "Time to See What We Look Like"):
go to photobucket.com and register (free)
upload yr photos
below each photo will be three hoohahs: a URL link, a HTML tag, and an IMG code.
open up another window and come to breastcancer.org and the Chemosabe March cruise.
write yr post and preview yr message
under "Instant UBB Code" click on "Image". a popup window will appear
go back to photobucket and copy the IMG code under the photo u want to post
paste the IMG code into the popup window and click on OK (or whatever it says)
voila! u can post multiple pics obviously, but u have to do it one at a time. -
Jacque -- i probably will go bald and beautiful once all the stubble falls out -- partly because i have a Big Ole Head and most wigs won't fit me, and partly because Houston is HOT. i'm thinking about getting a henna tattoo from chemochicks.com for my head -- then it will be Art. and also, who cares? i have my DH, i'm not looking to date anyone. i went topless, oops, i mean hatless at Sweet Tomatoes yesterday, and no one batted an eye.
-
arnee -- welcome! this is a fabulous forum, with great women (and even one supportive DH!). feel free to discuss anything here. i'm glad u found us!
-
Playwriter - Thanks for the tip on how to post pics! I am having trouble getting an avatar posted. Any help there? It keeps telling me that my pics are too big, but when I finally got one to post it was about 1/8 inch square. Any help there? Jacque
-
My daughter to be has selected three dresses that she likes. They are all very similar in appearance and I think all the same designer. She wants a vintage look - rather 40s-ish. She is a beauty - so all the dresses looked gorgeous on her. When she has decided which one to get I will post one of the other photos. I am sworn to secrecy on which dress she selects! Jacque

Can you believe 6 inches of snow today? Well, here in Michigan you can. April snow brings??? Snow..lol
I'm done with round #2 and just did my Neulasta shot today. I'm tired but no bad SE expect a hung over feeling. My Onc told me that those are the SE I can count on for this tx so I guess I'll be feeling better in a few days. I did drive myself to the shot today and gave my DBF the day off. He drive truck on third shift and didn't get any sleep before my appointment yesterday. While during my tx the dear soul fell asleep and started to snore. Everyone getting chemo just smiled and was so quite around him. One lady wanted to get him a warm blanket..lol Good thing he didn't start to drool..I love this guy! Anyway..I'm off to bed and I hope everyone is not shoveling snow like we are..HUGS all around..rosebud -
Rosebud!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Keep that cold weather away from me! *turning the heat up*
Glad you're feeling good!
Miss S -
Had tx2 yesturday and I feel awesome. go figure. I know what it is....it's all your prayers. Ladies thanks so much for all your well wishes and prayers they are working.
Melissa -
Jacque -- had to open a trial of Microsoft Office Picture Manager, as my Kodak Easyshare wouldn't make my chosen avatar pic small enough.
Download yr chosen pic to that, and on the sidebar will be an option for resizing yr pic. click on that, and then choose the max size they allow here for avatars (64 x 80, i think)
then, go ahead on this site to yr MyHome and add the link. -
GrammyNancy, if you're starting to compile the list for next week, I'm on for Monday, TAC #2!

Hello everyone!
I have not been posting, but have been following the posts daily. I enjoy reading about everyones treatments and the positive posts are very encouraging to read.
My wife has completed two AC dose dense treatments. She had a setback last week when the skin around her port became infected. They tried to save the port by treating her with heavy doses of the IV antibiotic Vancomycin, but it did not work. She had the port removed last week. It was a tough week emotionally for her because of this. It seemed like such a major setback, as she spent every one of her off chemo days at the doctors office or hospital.
Her doctor gave her the week off from chemo and she had a new port placed yesterday. Her original port surgery was very painful for her and the port never felt just right. This time she had a much better procedure and the port feels great already.
She returns for AC #3 on Monday. She has been tolerating the chemo OK, but has been having a tough time with constipation. When she had chemo 16 years ago it was the severe nausea and diarrhea that was the problem, so she was not prepared for this. It appears that the newer antiemetics she is taking are working great for nausea, but they are the cause of the constipation. Emend and Aloxi were not around back then. She will be taking a more aggressive approach on Monday.
She is a tough fighter and has rebounded well. She has a renewed positive outlook and ready for Monday. She will be getting two more AC then on to the Taxol with Arimidex and Herceptin.
I wish everyone a good week and continued success with their treatments!! -
barbkirk -- SO good to hear from u! i have been wondering how your DW is doing! glad the new port feels good, sounds like it was a tough few days for her. Senekot and/or Colace may help with the constipation. I'll be at the bar beside her on Monday for TAC#2.
Rosebud -- you're welcome! i would like to see a larger pic of u, with hair or without, you're beautiful either way.
like the song says, "Honey, I don't care, I ain't in love with your hair, and if it all falls out, I'll love you anyway." (Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis) -
Taurie, so happy to hear you went to the bar and do not have a hangover. Remember to keep drinking those fluids...it makes all the difference inn the world.
Barbkirk...good to hear from you. So sorry about the port issue but am happy that that seems to be taken care of. Playwriter is correct about the senekot and or colace. Will be sending positive thoughts and prayers for the visit to the bar on Monday.
Rosebud...I lived in Minnesota for 11 years and I remember having those Easter egg hunts in the snow....bet it was pretty but I've got to say, I'm much happier with flowers blooming at Easter time.
Girls, let me know if you are stepping up the bar next week.
Nancy -
I had TAC #2 yeaterday and feel okay today. A little tired but able to eat a banana for breakfast. I had them slow down the taxotere and at one point had them stop it and flush me with some fluids because I started getting a headache. It helped alot. And when I was all done, they ran fluids for another 10 or 15 minutes. I think it made a big difference when I got home.
