I am going to hate not seeing Jen Psaki in the briefing room at the White House, but hopefully they will have an excellent replacement for her. I will however adore seeing her on MSNBC. Don't know if her excerpts she will come in for will be mainly daytime or nighttime. Dh and I usually watch the early morning edition, and sometimes the later people on at night. I think this could work into a hostess job for Jen for later on. Just wowo !!!

The important thing is not to stop questioning.Curiosity has its
own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when
one contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous
structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend
a little of this mystery every day.Never lose a holy curiosity.

Just home from another four days in V.A. Hosp. so I'm not as up on the news as I'd like. Only had Fox News which I only consume in very small portions due to lies and conspiracies and other deep crap out of them. That said, it does sound like Putin is pulling back from some of the invaded space in Ukraine to concentrate on? Dombass and other nearby areas. It also sounds like he has some idea that he needs to "talk" with Ukraine to the point of backing out -- but again I have missed four days and upwards of news I find more reliable so I'm not too sure of anything at the moment but certainly hoping.

I did read on the way here that Putin would never freely give up. Also that he is likely not being told the real truth of how much he is despised by so many ( some perhaps even in his own circle of advisors ) and that only if he does something VERY dangerous will something likely happen directly to him. That would be if he actually did resort to trying to use nuclear in some way to his advantage. So he is likely safe for now from anyone internally doing away with him. He is still a frightening person and at some time I think even his closest are going to have to give up on him. He has lost too much for the Russian people who are it sounds, in some cases, to be in dire straits and getting worse all the time. It is going to be interesting, if scary, to see how this all plays out. It also seems Pres. Biden is doing pretty much all the right maneuvers while the Reps. do their best to make him sound the greatest failure.

Failure is as failure does. Loon has been a failure at everything -- beginning with the most rotten four yrs. anyone called U.S. president ever had, and the most un-godly events trying to overthrow the election that got rid of him. I'm only talking about the later Loon times -- but he has always been a failure propped up with borrowed money to seem as though he is anything but. He remains the saddest joke I know.

Hope you are doing okay, Illinois. Four days of watching FOX only would probably do me in!

If anyone missed the "Chernobyl" series on HBO, it was excellent. Doesn't look like it aired in Russia, though. Apparently, many of the soldiers knew absolutely nothing about the explosion or the dangers of the area.

Russian troops ‘rushed from Chernobyl nuke site with RADIATION sickness after digging trenches in contaminated forests’

Seven buses of Vladimir Putin's soldiers suffering from acute radiation syndrome were taken to a hospital in Belarus from the exclusion zone, it's understood.

The site of the 1986 nuclear tragedy in northern Ukraine was captured in the opening days of the war, sparking fears of a major radioactive disaster as a result of heavy fighting around the plant.

Russian troops allegedly dug trenches in the highly toxic Red Forest zone, according to UNIAN News Agency.

And according to workers at the site, Russian soldiers drove their tanks and armoured vehicles without radiation protection through the majorly radioactive area - kicking up clouds of radioactive dust.

A Chernobyl employee branded their actions as "suicidal" because the radioactive dust they inhaled was likely to cause internal radiation in their bodies.

Sure Putin didn't care anymore then, than he does now about what harm is done to his own people. As long as HIS ends are achieved, who cares!!! I think what info gets to the Russian mothers or wives etc. is all to the good.

Would be interesting to know for sure -- how many Russian soldiers were killed and or maimed. It sounds like a lot in this Ukraine fiasco, but while I think it well could be true I do have skepticism until we are farther along. Putin would never tell the truth ( unless he can get some other value from it ) and while our side tries I wonder even then if you can get accurate counts.

I am watching the Grammys where President Zelenskyy spoke via video and now John Legend is doing a beautiful, beautiful tribute accompanied by artists from Ukraine and a site to give money to help the people. If you missed it, I'd encourage you to watch it on Utube. A much better way to use your fame and ensuing platform than what we saw at the Oscars (which, even without the insults, slaps etc., never mentioned Ukraine by name).

Ruth, I happened to see that performance and it was beautiful.

CBS Sunday Morning (I love this show) had a great sement this morning on Valerie Biden, sister of Joe. She has a memoir coming out “Growing Up Biden" which of course I will read. Joe calls her his closest friend. When his first wife and daughter were killed, Valerie quit her job and helped raise his two boys. She became the first woman presidential campaign manager back in the 80s when Joe first ran. She jokes at the end of the segment, “It's not easy raising an older brother*!" Here's the 5 minute clip if you want to watch it.

Divine, I saw the Valerie Biden clip too. What a great lady (and sibling). I do think you missed a letter in your post, I believe she said it wasn't easy raising a 'big brother' not a 'big bother'............although, having a brother myself, I can attest that they can be a bother!!

Loved the laugh after Val Biden said it was not easy raising an older brother. She is a fantastic woman. She makes me think of some of the 'other' Kennedy women. I also sort of think of the line that behind every great man.

Here's hoping that things go well in the vote today for Judge Jackson.

cardplayer, you likely noticed most of us skew left fairly strong. Use to be a thread elsewhere for those of the opposite direction but they quit using it some time ago. Just saying we mainly do posting that references many or almost all things political. It is our relief valve. We do use a lot of memes and I leave a daily quote as well.

Was going to put in the memes that were on the site " Call to Activism " but it is sometimes a slow process so hope you will be okay if I just get the names down. There were new memes indicating that not only Lisa Murkowski, but Mitt Romney as well were going to be a yes on Judge Jackson in this evening's vote.

I hope it works out that way as having some bi-partisan is great. I also hope everyone on our side gives her their vote. At this point it certainly sounds like even if it turns out be a thinner margin than she deserves that she will pass this hurdle all right.

She is extraordinary and behaved in such a dignified fashion despite the antics of the Reps. nitpickers out to cause her maximum distress like Marsha Blackburn, Ted Cruz, Lindsay Graham and Hawley. It was a hideous display and made the proceeding a mockery when it shouldn't even have come close. I think a part of me is still in shock. I'd like to think/hope that in time some dignity and high-minded purpose could be restored to proceedings like Judge Jackson had to participate in, but at least she knew going in that she would be waylaid.

You are right that she displayed a sense of decorum and composure that none of them have ever experienced in their entire lives. If they had, it would surprise the hell out of them and perhaps have shaped them into borderline human beings. However, I regard them as "aliens" because they display no honorable traits that most humans would expect to see in other humans. They are devoid of anything that smacks of humanity. They will have to pay the poper at some point in time and I hope that at least Slimey Lindsey will hav ethat opportunity in my lifetime. He dumped on her because his handpicked candidate did not make it in the running. What a spoil sport to throw such a temper tantrum and something unbefitting a man of his age, intellect, being a representative of the US, and education (but I wasn't surprised by his actions). How could John McCain have ever been his friend?
