"traffic fortunately remains high"
Oops. No longer able to see how high traffic is.

I've noticed the "website is down" several times while trying to switch pages.
Updating my profile, treatments, diagnosis, has been a daunting process. I still can't get it to read accurately after several attempts.
Unfortunately, the new site is a challenge (and I find computers easy to use). Hopeful the glitches will be fixed at some point.

Thanks for flagging that, wondering44. Improving functionality is our top priority and our tech team is aware of and is working on fixes to address the application errors. We appreciate you being here!

Now this thread is at -26 unread posts. I was on earlier in the afternoon, then tried again later and got "site down" AFTER I'd been on the home page, the log-on page, back to the home page, onto the active topics page, then clicked this thread and got that "site down" notice. Each of those steps moved at a snail's pace, so it was REALLY frustrating to go through all that for nothing.
Mods, you've mentioned we should email our problems with the site. Like someone posted earlier, we need to have this record of our frustrations to refer to if anyone tries to make a "new and improved" version of the site in the future. It seems kind of rude to make the site so difficult, then expect us to go through extra steps to report the problems. I'd suggest someone on the administrative side be assigned to copy and paste or screenshot our complaints, and they can send them to the technical team.
-
Yeah, we too are seeing that. We know, Everyone. We're recording and have got it. Thank you

I was hoping that by the end of this workweek, we would see an improvement. Well, apparently, no. It took numerous tries to login and navigate to this thread tonight, then another round of getting "site down" errors when I tried to navigate to other threads. Even though Active Topics seems to be frozen, people are posting so I waited and finally got in a couple threads to read new posts.
I was curious and tried to see what the "release notes" we were promised today reported and am greatly disappointed at their 11:00pm Friday notes which among other changes, say they are continuing to "monitor" the errors and fix them. https://www.breastcancer.org/about-us/form/release-notes Why are they "monitoring" the errors and not fixing the code so they don't occur? Are they waiting to fix until we report them? We've reported many ways over the past 18 days how it's not working--and still NOT WORKING!!!

Mods,
I truly appreciate that you are working hard bailing water from a leaky ship. I'm most concerned with you fixing the functionality and accuracy of the active posts as that is how I keep up. I'm a newer user and both need support and want to help those who are just a wee bit behind me. I've already learned a lot in one month. This site is full of amazing and strong women who are members AND moderators. I know the leadership of the organization does care. Please know that we wouldn't be complaining if we didn't want this site to be the best community for breast cancer survivors in the world. I'm willing to be patient, but honestly, this broken website happened at a bad time for me. I need support and an active community. And right now, this one is a shadow of what it should be.
-
On active topics it appears that no one has posted on this thread for 10 hours and I have -35 unread posts . It’s also at the top of my active topics list😂. When I go to the thread it is up to date. With respect to the negative unread post counts, I have actually had that issue for years even on the old site. It was a thread I had never opened. Go figure 🙄
-
Mods,
I see the latest post issue hasn't been fixed (which is causing the problem with Active Topics). I write this not to blame you, but so that you know this should not be happening.
12 hours ago - The negative unread posts was reported first by lw422.
11 hours ago - You replied that you immediately reported it to the tech team.
10 hours ago - The latest post stopped updating with my post at the time.
9 hours ago - AliceBastable posted about the negative unread posts. Shortly after I posted about the Lastest Post not updating.
Whoever was trying to correct the unread posts count should not have been doing this live. The latest post issue started at this time. This is a bigger issue than the weird post count. It should have been corrected immediately. I'm frustrated because I shouldn't be able to see this failure in progress. Whoever is working on this issue needs help.

Yes, everything is reported! We promise.
And we really appreciate all your logging, and details. This is helpful!

The fact that BCO and Work.co are celebrating this launch is shocking. It makes me both angry and sad.
I use the website on both an iPhone and iPad which use the Safari browser. I have my “brightness” Setting turned down for the display. This saves battery life and makes this site easier on the eyes. Although it is not ideal to have to make frequent settings changes for different websites, this might be an option for those who are struggling with the harsh white background. You can also make this kind of settings changes on a laptop or PC monitor.
The “My Account” page is completely blank for me.
Sometimes I get a Log In link in the menu list, sometimes I don’t. The My Favorites item doesn’t show up all the time, so if I want to review a thread that I read before, I have to try to find it in the Active Thread list. Terrible usability.
I’m still seeing problems with this “click and wait” site. Getting to the Active Threads page takes far too long. Clicking on a thread and navigating between pages in a thread takes a LONG time. The negative “unread posts“ number is still happening.
-
I suspect it’s been captured in other reports related to our diagnosis history but it appears that pretty much every chemo has been set to “other”. That’s key piece of information that is lost, particularly for us stage IV folks. We often have questions related to sequencing and what’s next and so it’s important to be able to see where members have been. I tried to go into my profile but don’t seem to have any options for editing.
-
And now there is only 1 page of threads on the Active threads. So only a choice of 15 threads to look at. Seems like this 1 step forward, 2 steps backwards. Trying to be patient, but it's getting thin.
-
So the new forum changes were actually tested before being rolled out to the entire “community" and testers thought the tiny monotone print in gray, massive amounts of white space and lack of color was a good change? Seems odd. Wonder how the testers were selected.
A couple hours ago I spent about 15 minutes trying to access anything on the forum including this thread and got nowhere despite repeated attempts. I even had a problem reporting the problem!
Last summer I upgraded my internet, thrilled with the faster speed. With that and buying a new iPad, I was so happy everything loaded so quickly on any website I visited. Till now. 😕
I am doing my best to practice restraint in my complaints. I realize yes, Mods, you are people, too! Please know, though, I'm a person who gives reviews of both praise or criticism when warranted. Most of the time I keep in mind that my objective is to find solutions to the problem, not to vent for the sake of venting. However, in this case, I really did need to register my distress. Outspoken protest seems to be needed to be heard. One of my continuing gripes has been that it often feels like since we are a community largely made of women we're supposed to do the socially acceptable thing for females which is to be sweet, submissive, kind, accepting, grateful, never angry and by all means, never ask for anything better or anything more but merely to make do with what we're given. Surely as women what makes us all divine is to having full spectrum of emotions and be able to express them.

Mods,
In less than 4 hours the list of Active Topics will be empty unless the Latest Post per topic begins updating properly.
No one is going through each forum to look for new topics or within each topic to look for new posts.
Members with email notifications on their favourite topics will get updates on new posts, but how will new members get help?
-
serenitystat posted exactly what I was about to post regarding active topics. What really bothers me at this point is an attempt to soft soap the whole situation. Claims that it was tested by actual bco members or statements saying that some members are experiencing difficulties with the site are at best a grand understatement and at worst, a purposeful attempt to gloss over a dreadful upgrade! Did the real bco members who tested this not experience the mess that occurred with the change? I find that hard to believe. Are there any members who have not experienced difficulties? I have not seen a single post claiming that everything is working well. Where are those folks? I strongly suspect there aren’t any.
I wish that whoever was responsible for this would just own up to it and stop pretending that this has been a welcome and wonderful change. I really dislike it when people try to soft soap reality. I find it insulting.

We are aware of all this going on, and don't have an answer. We are so sorry.

summergal, yes, it was tested on BCO members. lw422, yes, we'll send that to the techs immediately. Thank you for reporting. Beesie, all good points, and it will be shared with the tech team as well.

...Ruth, yes, we hear that, and they are working on it! We're following the analytics and metrics. People are joining, and traffic fortunately remains high, despite the technical issues. The more glitches that get reported, and the more we get fixed, the better the functionality, and the better for everyone. We understand the challenges. Just trying to address your points, and be as helpful as we can.

Mods, no offense, but isn't it clear to you that what you are doing isn't working? These are just your posts from the past 24 hours, but they've been the same for almost 3 weeks now. And what has happened over these almost 3 weeks? Very little has been fixed, and THE PERFORMANCE ON THE SITE HAS GOTTEN WORSE.
The latest issue with the updating of Active Topics has been going on for 24 hours - WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. And as I was trying to collect the Moderator quotes from the past 24 hours, going back to page 99, then to page 100, then to page 101, I encountered more than 20 site down application errors - so many that I actually lost count. Our ability to navigate from page to page has gotten worse, not better.
- AT WHAT POINT WILL SOMEONE FIGURE OUT THAT WHATEVER THE TECHS ARE DOING ISN'T WORKING? Do you need to bring in new people or at least a new person to oversee the project?
- AT WHAT POINT WILL SOMEONE FROM BCO AND SOMEONE FROM WORK & CO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHAT IS GOING ON, rather than passing it off to the techs and blaming old technology?
- AT WHAT POINT WILL SOMEONE WHO IS IN A POSITION OF AUTHORITY AT BCO LOOK AT THE REALITY OF THE SITUATION AND MAKE A DECISION TO SHUT DOWN THE DISCUSSION BOARD UNTIL IT IS FULLY OPERATIONAL? This is destroying the Discussion Board, and while BCO may not understand this, the Discussion Board is the heart of this site. The information you provide on the rest of the site is available anywhere, and frankly, is much easier to access on other reliable medical sites and often is better quality information. What make BCO unique is the Discussion Board. What drives the traffic on the site is the Discussion Board. BCO had big pie-in-the-sky ideas about how to redesign the site to make it unique in how it addresses breast cancer with patients and caregivers. What BCO didn't seem to realize is that it already was unique because of the Discussion Board. And now the Discussion Board is being destroyed as BCO tries to become something that you are not and something that it's likely only a very limited number of patients will want.
What I have found particularly frustrating through this whole process is that there are BCO members who are IT professionals who have explained some of what is happening with these IT failures, and have offered advice on how to work through the process of implementing fixes... and yet those comments have never been acknowledged. Worse yet, the comments made by both the Moderators and by Hope Wohl have completely ignored what the rest of us have been told by these IT professionals. It's astonishing, really.
-
I keep asking for BCO accountability, BCO taking responsibility, BCO letting us know what is taking place, and when we might expect improvement after 19 days!!!!!! Instead, we are left over the weekend with a massive new fail on the "Active Topics" list. I can slowly, and error prone, navigate and post to threads I want to read through "My favorites," but have no way to see if there are newbies posting questions and needing help. BCO is failing in what they claim to be their mission.
The moderators, Wohl, and Melissa sometimes posting that they are referring to the tech team might give the tech team an idea of our problems, but is not helpful to members. The premature tooting your own horn of the glories of the new website are insulting and misleading and do nothing to help us trust you. Step up and be accountable. No website, however good their "mission" can survive like this. We old-timers keep coming back in hopes of being there for new people and to continue to communicate with those we have come to know over the years. How long do you think we will continue coming back before we move on? BCO has thrived because you can show data of the usage to big donors. No usage, no donations. How many of the hits you record are us trying repeatedly, and often failing, to get into the same thread?
DAY 19! And seeming to be getting worse!

Go Beesie!!
Go Exbrnxgirl!!
Go Ceanna!!

Bragging about the site on Twitter and maybe Facebook (I don't use FB) is deceitful (fraudulent?) . Maybe it's time for members to respond to the great sales pitches on social media. Maybe someone there will listen.

Mods,
Coding is one of my skills, but I never considered myself a programmer. It is a necessary skill for all the jobs I've had. I learn whatever language I need.
Troubleshooting and workarounds are my other skills. These seem to be lacking in your tech team.
In trying to fix the unread post count, your tech team broke the setting of the Lastest Post per topic. Algorithms with counters can be tricky, and that's why dev environments are needed.
I suggest a workaround to update the latest post. There should be a table with a field for the latest post per topic (thread). Update it with the max(ID) of each thread. We know each thread is getting updated correctly. Save the script and run it as needed until the issue is fixed.
Obviously I don't know the environment, and your tech team may not be familiar with all the code. That's no excuse. As a consultant I was always dropping into new environments. Push them to get it fixed.

Test bump
-
Looks like all the problems still exist. Mods, your tech people are ripping you off.
-
Alice, we are in testing mode, we are working on fixes. Please bear with us.
-
After getting site down messages for a few days, I was surprised to be able to get on. But I can’t read all my favorites, I can’t get anything off the active topic. Seems the site was down with no improvement.
I only use my iPhone 13.
-
I was really hoping for some improvement to the site after the community was down for a few days.
My avatar photo is fixed on the main page, but distorted again on this page.
The Donate button below still comes up in Spanish. I reported this a couple weeks ago.
Delay between pages is still painfully slow.
Time for a new Tech Team?
I feel really bad for those needing support at this time. Extreme frustration is not healthy.
-
Update, avatar seems fixed since my last post 5 minutes ago.
