Lumpectomy 2013 with chemo and radiation. Mastectomy 2018 with chemo and radiation. Metastatic breast cancer with Liver mets 3/21. Was on ibrance now on Afinitor. Asked about surgery no per oncologist but I failed to ask why. Now I wonder about other treatments like Y90 and radiation. Will see oncologist in September. Any thoughts ? I think liver mets are the worse but I don’t know if that is true. Thanks

Hi hoisholt, sorry that you find yourself here.

we have an active liver mets thread where you can get lots of answers. the general liver thread is here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/...

the regional treatments (like ablation, Y90 etc) thread is here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/8/topics/...

Generally speaking, there is a hierarchy of mets 'seriousness'. They're all serious but yes, visceral mets (ie in organs such as liver and lungs) have worse outcomes than bone only. Brain is problematic (though regional treatments are good). Leptominingeal mets are very serious.

You need to know how many mets and where they're located as that dictates a lot of what treatments are open to you. One met in one lobe of the liver is going to have a different treatment plan than lots of small mets throughout the liver.

    best wishes,
