Community Afghan

Yippee! I've got some more squares done and ready to post. I'll get them in the mail to you, Vickie. I'm going to go get the 'pinkish' knifty knitter tomorrow so maybe it will go faster. I picked up the 'purple' one from Walmart but I think its too big.

Yes, Cheri. Its the one with 18 on each side. It was the only one Walmart had. I thought it was too big. I'll give it a try then.

I use the pinkish loom with 12 on each side. I have to fluff a bit when I take them off..but they are a 7" when finished.

I noted your comment about not having to many stitches for crochet, Beth. If you (or anyone else) would like directions for more stitches, I'd be happy to share. I have an afghan pattern that is made of squares of all different stitches. Some are too 'holey' in my opinion (I don't like drafts when I snuggle under an afghan) but there are lots of interesting variations that work well for our project.

I use 2 strands of fine yarn...like baby yarn or sport yarn. I have never used 2 strands of thicker yarn. I have not had a problem with tangling the yarn, and yes, I use 2 skeins at thee same time. I have not kept track of how many I get per skein...I am still using up partial skeins and I use different combos fro just about every square I make.

I just looked at my blanket...have I mentioned how much I love mine in the past few days I do you know

ANYWAY...There are squares in mine that have been done with the 2-sided flat loom. I don't know who made which ones, but these are done with 2 stands of what looks like worsted weight yarn. They are puffy, soft and nice and thick. Since they are done in the 2 sided stitch, they do not have a "wrong" side. I think you could do them with one strand and it would look lacier and be lighter weight. It would change the look, but I think they would still be as thick as a square knit or crocheted that was done the old-fashioned one-sided way.

Did that make any sense at ALL? It would look different with only one strand, but I think it might be fine. I have not tried it, so you could give it a whirl for a few rows and see how it looks.

Since all the squares are different, I think that either one or two strands would be fine with the flat loom....does anyone else have more experience?? Does one strand make a square to "skimpy" or is it OK??? Enquiring minds want to know...

Funny - I read all those posts before they were removed, and don't remember seeing anything bad. But then I've got chemo brain. I'm not throwing rocks in at Tami and Melissa (or anybody) else though, just wishin' for more than 2 brain cells this evening!

I am a little disgusted with myself. I was using up to colors of yarn and making a really nice striped square. I got it almost all done before I double checked my width... only six inches. I feel like a doof. I will try again tomorrow, and remember to 'measure twice and cut once' as my grandfather used to say.
