forza - Can you contact your oncologist office and ask them? I am on Ibrance and my oncologist told me to get the COVID shot as soon as possible and to continue my Ibrance as normal. I know others have been told the same and some others have been told to take breaks. I don't know if some are being told to take a break because they have more trouble with their blood counts or some other health reason or if it is just a difference in opinions amongst oncologists but best to check with your oncologist. I had the first dose and hope to get the second in a couple of weeks.

forza, what is your ANC level? If it is within normal, most oncologists do not suggest a break. I would check with the MO.

hi cow gal and snow drop , thanks !

I’m always just scraping by with my blood count. The usual suspects. And that’s taken after the week off , you guys know how it works. I wouldn’t call it “within normal” , but it’s just enough to keep going with the tablets.

I’m in between hospitals (I moved) or should I say I have 2 hospitals at the moment so don’t want to alarm any oncologist. The things I’ve done to get this vaccine , don’t want it snatched away again. Again because of the move , I fell through the cracks and not known in my new town as risk. The roll out in Europe is just not happening.

Instead of the 2 tablets I’ve started taking only 1 from today. So the white blood count wouldn’t dip too much ? A bit of a me-solution ?! Oh dear 🙈

forza, I was fortunate that an appointment for the vaccine opened up when I was already a week off of Ibrance, so I just stayed off until a few days after the vaccine. It could be important because neutrophils play an important role in the T cell response to a vaccine in general- http://www.buffalo.edu/news/releases/2020/08/004.h...

Forza, what about calling the pharmacy where you get the Kisqual from? Perhaps a pharmacist could offer some insight.

Tina, I have heard about the vaccine causing the enlarged lymph nodes. I got my first shot of Moderna on March 7. I have a CT and bone scan coming up March 31st. I think that may be enough time in between that the scans won’t be affected. My second vaccine dose is scheduled April 7.

I was advised by my Onc to have the vaccine in my week off of Ibrance which I did with my first Pfizer dose. However my 2nd jab was booked for my next week off meaning an 8 week gap. I managed to get a 2nd jab today and made the decision that although I was 9 days into this cycle of Ibrance a 6 week gap between jabs was better than an 8 week gap. I shall take a few days off now and hop that I have made the right call. No reaction to the 1st jab and ditto this time not even a sore arm. Hope this doesn’t bode badly for efficacy.

You got it!! Some are saying the one shot is fine, but surely Two jabs are plenty of protection regardless of the Ibrance; the FDA was ready to accept any vaccine over 50% efficacy, more like the flu shots. Doesn't it feel great, you made it!!

Divine, I just looked this up for a family member who recently got vaccinated and has her annual mammogram coming up. The recommendation from the radiology expert panel is to wait six weeks from the vaccine before having any scan. So she rescheduled. Obviously this applies to screening and routine surveillance, not necessarily in cases where there is a new concern. Also, they say to delay the scan, not the vaccination.

Same here. Severe reaction to Taxotere. I don’t know if any of the 3 vaccines are safe. J&J esoecially. I can’t get any help deciding. Does anyone have any feedback from oncologists?

    holtbolt,

What does your oncologist say? He/she knows your situation best and that's whose advice you should take. FWIW, my understanding is taxotere and the Covid19 vaccines have nothing in common but again, your own doc is the best person to ask. I had to sit in a waiting area for 15 minutes after my vaccine to be monitored for adverse reactions. This is standard procedure for all who get the vaccine in most places. Take care.

I agree with exbrnxgrl... check with your oncologist. They make everyone wait a minimum of 15 minutes after the shot and longer if you have a history of adverse reactions. I had to stay 30 minutes even though I wasn't allergic to anything in the COVID vaccine.

my oncologist sent me extensive data about what is in these vaccines and what other drugs contained these same ingredients- it might have been the CDC recommendations or the ASCO ones. These vaccines were not studied in people with cancer or people who are immunocompromised. But your MO should have all this data-Since mine did. She sent me the links which worked at the time- when I tried to open it again it denied me access. Whatever caused your allergy to taxotere may not be in the vaccines but your MO or pharmD should be able to help you with this.

I’ve had 2 Moderna vaccines and did fine. Hope everyone else does well.

I live in Minnesota and had no trouble getting the Pfizer vaccine. I get my primary health care from one major organization, however received an email from the hospital where I had my hip replaced 4 years ago. They said to sign-up at any of the locations convenient to me. I was able to get in the next day without any difficulty. I overheard one of the staff saying they expected to vaccinate over 1,000 people that day.

Six weeks later I received my second shot without any difficulty.

I am scheduled to get the Pfizer vaccine Sunday. On Friday I got my Eribulin and today (Saturday) I gave myself my first shot of Zarxio to help my white count. The Zarxio was scheduled before I knew I was getting the vaccine. All doctors and nurses I spoke to said this was fine to get the vaccine.

Had my Pfizer Covid vaccine today. I was there about two hours! Long lines and had to stand the majority of the time and everyone had appointments. I was in pain but it was sad watching the older ladies and men in line that had canes have to stand there that long too. They didn't plan any of that very well. My appointment time was 1:40 and I didn't get the vaccine until 2:50. Then I had a 30 minute observation wait. At least I was sitting for that. It was a mega site on a Saturday so maybe that's why. Anyway, one down, one more to go.

...In fact, women appear hardwired to experience COVID-19 and the vaccines differently. Data from the CDC suggests side effects from the vaccines are worse in women; for example, 63 of the total 66 reported cases of anaphylaxis happened in women...

Why Women Experience COVID and the Vaccines Differently Than Men

I received my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine last Thursday. No ill effects for me so far, but I have been told the 2nd dose may have more se's. Sign up was totally helter skelter here in WI. No one site for sign up and some providers very vague as to when and where you might receive the vaccine. Finally found one provider with a web page where you simply added your name to a list and were assured a spot on a particular day. Why couldn't they all do that? They did list the state's protocol for who was eligible, but no documentation of age or condition was necessary. Lots of young people there getting shots. Looking forward to #2 in mid April.

Received my 1st dose of the Maderna vaccine on Wednesday and have to say the side effects were not pleasant! The sore arm started within an hour and by that evening I was feeling flu like symptoms. I've run a low grade fever for the past 2 nights and have had a headache and joint pains. I had Covid over the New Year, and except for a high fever the first 2+ days felt like I got off pretty easy. I'd say the side effects of the vaccine were similar to the actual virus after the Fever broke. Thankfully the symptoms didn’t last as long and I’m feeling better today, still have a swollen, hot arm that I'm icing. My husband got the vaccine at the same time as me and did not have Covid but had many of the same side effects as I've had the past few days. I think reactions are kind of a crap shoot

I had both jabs. Zero side effects. Didn't even feel the injection going in. My husband had 1st jab- zero side effects.

    Hi Susan,

Read an article today that indicates that for those that had COVID, the first shot is more like the second dose for folks that didn’t have the virus. There is some speculation that the second jab may not be necessary for folks like you. It will be interesting to see where they land on this. It’s amazing what has been accomplished but they are still learning on the fly.

I’ve had both Phizer jabs. Got signed up through my county health dept. Sign up seems to be going better in FloriDuh not so much in the news anymore. Seemed to be well organized, very short lines, answer a few questions and then a 30 minute wait. Not bad. Arm was sore a few days after, not even enough for a Tylenol.

My son in law got the moderna, he was down , miserable for about 36 hours.

Got the Moderna today, 1st dose. They monitored everyone for 15 minutes and from what I observed they as well as I were fine. Went shopping afterwards. However, 5 hours later, began to have SE. Injection site began to hurt then heart rate went up, throat felt slightly swollen, chest felt heavy. However, these symptoms were not severe, they were under the radar.

I made myself continue to consume the fruit that I was eating (I had not eaten all day) and then I felt better. I subsequently read that liquids and foods like fruit (liquid-based) can help ease symptoms.

My second dose might be after I start chemo. Someone who got both (she got Pfizer) told me she and others had a reaction to the second dose (chills, nausea). For both of those reasons I will call an Uber to take and bring me to that second shot.

Hi.I just had the Astra Zeneca jab (in Sydney, Australia) and the dr told me it wouldn't work as well for me because I'm on immunotherapy (Herceptin Perjeta). I was surprised by this but went ahead anyway. Has anyone else on this been told that? Or that you had to get it at a certain time in the 3 weekly cycle?

I was diagnosed at stage 4 MBC in 3/18. I took 3 rounds of triple chemo, taxotere, perjeta, herceptin. I have had clean Pet scans since 7/18. I had developed small brain lesions in 9/2020 and they were radiated away with success. I am on hylecta every 3 weeks and prolia every 6 weeks. I am 62+ years old.I take Tukysa and Anastrozole every day.

I am terrified this vaccine will make me ill rather than protect me. I have not left the house much in these past years, first due to immune concerns but now-Covid.I just go to my treatments, appointments and tests.

How do others feel with stage V MBC and under treatment about getting the Covid vaccine ?
