Did you receive the Covid Vaccine?

Still waiting for mine. 9 million people in NJ and 1.8 million vaccines given out (including 600,000 2nd doses). I got the email that I'm eligible but no email to make the appointment yet. Checking sites everyday anyway and there haven't been any appointments available.

What pisses me off is that I heard of people that have gotten it even though they don't have any underlying conditions and some that received it just because they smoke. I understand that the virus could be bad for smokers, but an otherwise healthy 30 year old smoker gets to get the vaccine before a cancer patient?

Jackie, here in Ohio, they are still doing the 65 and older group, so I'm not eligible until the 60 and older is available. Our governor said they will still be doing the 65+ for several more weeks. They've been vaccinating teachers all month, and health care workers have already received theirs if they wanted it.

Here is the good news that came out earlier this week: The vaccine will start to becoming more available pretty soon. Drug companies Pfizer and Moderna said Tuesday they project a major increase in vaccine deliveries resulting in 140 million more doses being distributed over the next five weeks, saying they have solved manufacturing challenges. Pfizer currently distributes 9 million doses a week which is expected to climb to about 13 million doses per week by the beginning of April. Moderna is expected about deliver 10 million per week. The single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to be authorized any time now and will provide 2 million doses immediately, then 20 million doses by the end of March and will continue to increase each month.

I saw progress in this already. Our county health department has been getting about 300 doses a week but have been notified that next week they'll receive 1,600. A nice big bump, and I hope that continues.

Keep checking to see if you can book an appt. i know its a pain in the ass, but my experience, with anything, is that you have to be persistent, even tho it can be frustrating. Eventually you'll get there.

Jack5ie- I did get mine 2 weeks ago in Northern California. It has been a mess here and so many people jumping the line and so many mandates changing who gets to go in front of you. I am over 65- Here is no cal we had a hunger games situation- I signed up with the county, with kaiser, with Myturn.gov , UCSF, and there was info on next door etc re where to get it (and how to cheat) finally I got one through the county and right after that heard from kaiser, my turn and another county site, I think UCSF is still doing >75 year olds- so I think that it is really opening up now. Our governor actually said that marijuana dispensary drivers were 1a- above dentistst!!! an outcry occurred, it sort of felt like all sorts of groups were petitioning to say they should go next. In our state 80% of the vaccine went to counties not to kaiser or other health care providers who actually know who is high risk- that is being reversed somewhat. we also got two of the fema sites-they started a week ago. their supply is not part of the states supply so I think that helps. these Fema sites have revved up to give 6000 vaccines per day- it is quite an organizational effort- but, I think that it will translate to a rapid increase in the number of people vaccinated.

I would keep checking for appointments and refreshing your site- I would get an email saying that there were appointments and check that minute and there would be none. I got one by just going on randomly. There was an article about young people volunteering to find appointments for seniors and they go on at all times of the night, refreshing their sites hundreds of times to get them. My DH's bike club had someone who full time looked around for vaccines and told people who just got a supply etc. a nuts situation. I worry that the next group 50-64 with risky conditions is going to be the next debate- which is riskier asthma or cancer.etc

the good news as Devine says is that supply is really amping up and that nursing home patients who have been vaccinated are not dying in high numbers like in the past. so it works! I hope my daughter the teacher can get one soon - my son has an immunocompromised friend who is only 29 and has 3 roommates- when will it be his turn- not for a very long time at this rate.

I hope that you get one very soon- be active in pursuing it.

Jack5ie, I'm as frustrated as you are! I live in MN and our system is a mess too. I called my primary care physician to see if they have a waiting list to get on. She told me they have 5,000 patients over 65 and they have received no vaccine so far. The U of MN where I go for cancer care has no vaccine either. My question is why aren't clinics among the first to get it when they know the age-group it's supposed to get to and have the ability to get in touch with them? I know of several people who have gotten the vaccine simply because they work in an office connected to a medical facility and never get near the patients! This is what happens when the government runs things.

I have put my name on a "vaccine connector" list but when I check it always says no appts. available. Last night on the local news they were talking to older people who don't have cell phones or computers. I don't know how they are supposed to get connected. Sorry about the rant, but I am really pissed.

    jack5ie,

In my county, stage IV does not move you up in line unless you are immune compromised. I do have an appointment for next week but that’s because I’m a teacher. I am also in N. CA, Santa Clara Co.

Nkb, lots of good information you provided.

Today, President Biden marked 50 million vaccines in 37 days, so his promise of 100 million vaccines in 100 days is a couple weeks ahead of schedule. The Covid vaccine is #1 priority to current administration.Vaccine efforts were hampered at first due to previous administration not sharing information with current one. Bad weather was also a hindrance.

It's possible I may get frustrated by the time I'm eligible for the vaccine if I have trouble getting an appt, but right now I'm allowing a little more time for the coordinating of it all to kick into high gear. I can see it continually being improved.

I watched a segment on 60 Minutes a couple months ago about the distribution of the vaccine (Operation Warp Speed) and it's mind-bogglng how it all works. Consider watching it:

P.S. My husband and I both had Covid in January, it was rough, I was sicker than he was. We are grateful to be recovered.

My sister here in NJ was eligible before I was because she has diabetes but at first she could not find a place with available appointments either. She finally got an appt for this week at the Convention Center in Edison, through RWJB.

I have not tried again so not sure if I'm eligible yet. Not immune compromised and under 65.

My oncology nurse said even she had a hard time getting her appointment

Being under 60, I'm not eligible yet. In Quebec they've just started mass vaccinations after high priority groups have received their first dose. I know the employees at my hospital have been able to get vaccinated. Public registration started today for those 85+. I know people have been able to get appointments by phone or online.

in our county, Ca, many healthy young people got their vaccine, I don't know how they did! Actually i feel a bit safer when those cheaters get their vaccine ahead of others, because they are the ones who can't give up parties/ gathering etc and with few weeks of lockdown they got crazy cabine fever, not to mention many of them are antimaskerso we can be hopeful that they won't spread the virus then! Cancer patients are in tier 1C but a question is when is my turn! I am in virtual queue in our county Covid vaccine website and myturn and cvs, patiently waiting! Other concern is that I have to take off my medication 7 days before shot, and all appointments give a 3 days window, I can't take a risk taking off my medication with no guarantee getting appointment.

I just became eligible in Illinois yesterday but my city and nearby counties are not recognizing my group yet. It's a crazy mess so I signed up to get a vaccine next Tuesday at a site that is over 5 hours away. Sounds crazy but I think it might be another month or two if I wait for something closer. I'll keep looking over the weekend but it's like playing a video game that I am constantly losing. Today I almost got an appointment 3 hours away but at the end of the process they said they won't vaccinate my group yet. Time for bed-my eyes are getting bleary.

My 70+ parents in WI finally got theirs two days ago, after blind dumb luck trying multiple sites they managed to catch some appointments before they were announced in the media that vaccines were available at that site. They had to drive an hour and a half north but didn't seem to mind. Not cancer patients, but my dad has a ton of arthritis/degeneration problems and is on blood thinners etc. Absolutely zero communication from their health care provider about who was where in the list (dont call us, well call you), and their county is fairly rural so the doses are trickling in in sets of like 50 at a time.

I wonder (and hope) if they are just trying to push through with the current approach for now to get everyone shot, and roll out an improved system next fall (or use the existing flu vaccine approach) when this wave of demand is through and supply is consistent. I don't think any country got this right, other than maybe Israel, but they have a population less than the city of London, a centralised system, and guaranteed supply. You don't get conditions better than that to do it right.

Here is who is eligible in New Jersey.

Who is eligible for vaccination in New Jersey? Who is included in the vaccination phases?

    Last Updated: 02/04/2021

New Jersey is rolling out COVID-19 vaccines step-by-step to serve all adults who live, work, or study in the state.

Who is eligible for vaccination at this time?

Currently, vaccines are available to the following groups:

    • Paid and unpaid healthcare workers
    • Residents and workers of long-term care and high-risk congregate care facilities
    • First responders including sworn law enforcement and fire professionals
    • Individuals aged over 65
    • Individuals aged 16-64 that have certain medical conditions that increase the risk of severe illness from the virus

Individuals at High Risk (Phase 1B)

Individuals aged 65 and older, and individuals ages 16-64 with medical conditions, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, that increase the risk of severe illness from the virus. These conditions include:

    • Cancer
    • Chronic kidney disease
    • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
    • Down Syndrome
    • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
    • Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2)
    • Severe Obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2)
    • Sickle cell disease
    • Smoking
    • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

I fit into the category of 16-64 with risk of severe illness from the virus. (I added the description for that group just to show who is included. The other groups are self-explanatory.) As you can see, cancer is on the 16-64 list. I think the problem is that there are too many people 'eligible' right now. I also think that every state should be following the same guidelines.

thanks, Jackie, I saw this last night. The first time I tried, when they first rolled everything out, I was not coming up as eligible. But all the sites near me are saying they are booked, anyway. Some are saying they are only giving second doses right now

Thanks, Jack5ie. Yes, cancer is on the list and I know that some are worried about what effects a previous cancer has had on their bodies and therefore feel like they should be further up in line for COVID vaccines. I had a long talk with my mo and although she wants me to get the vaccine when my turn comes, she feels that I am at no greater risk than sny other 64 year old despite being stage IV. Do we know if my 10 year long history of cancer tx has compromised my body in some way in terms of vulnerability to COVID? No, not with certainty but I haven’t tried to push my cause to get ahead as I believe there are many who are far more vulnerable and still waiting. So, as I waited patiently for my turn my county opened up appointments for teachers and as a result of my profession I will be getting my first shot this coming Wednesday

exbrnxgrl...I haven't tried to push my cause to get ahead either. As I said in my first post, it just pisses me off that some people seem to have been doing this. I also don't think an otherwise healthy 30 year old smoker had the vaccine ahead of certain others is right either. I'm more than willing to wait my turn, just be fair about it...for all concerned. I know this is something that we as a society hasn't had to deal with before, but it should be easy enough to realize a 30 year old smoker shouldn't be in the same category as someone with say...kidney disease. Also, the treatment I'm on causes my WBC to be low. We need a normal WBC to fight diseases. That should be reason enough to be ahead of a healthy 30 year old smoker. Sorry, just venting a little.

I think the “smoker" eligibility is totally ridiculous. I mean, that's an activity or lifestyle, not a medical condition. Weird.

Ohio remains in phase 1b. This means 65+ and those younger with certain childhood diseases that carried over to adulthood. Cancer is nowhere on the list.

    * Ohioans born with or who have early childhood conditions that are carried into adulthood, which put them at a higher risk for adverse outcomes due to COVID-19.

o Sickle cell anemia. o Down syndrome.

    o Cystic fibrosis.

o Muscular dystrophy. o Cerebral palsy.

    o Spina bifida.

o People born with severe heart defects, requiring regular specialized medical care.

o People with severe type 1 diabetes, who have been hospitalized for this in the past year.

o Phenylketonuria (PKU), Tay-Sachs, and other rare, inherited metabolic disorders.

o Epilepsy with continuing seizures; hydrocephaly; microcephaly, and other severe neurological disorders. o Turner syndrome, fragile X syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other severe genetic disorders.

o People with severe asthma, who have been hospitalized for this in the past year.

    o Alpha and beta thalassemia.

o Solid organ transplant candidates and recipients

I’ve received both doses. I was able to get it because I’m also a first responder. I agree though, doesn’t seem like smokers should be moved up in priority based on that. Hopefully with the J & J vaccine almost on the market, the supply will only increase in the next several weeks/months. I pray for the day when everyone has access to it, and takes it

    Kack5ie-

Smoker? No way. That is a choice-

I felt furious every time someone jumped the line- and I got a front row seat to those who felt privileged to do so- I was pretty much told I was a sucker to 1) not pretend I was an optometrist to get one- just ignore the 2 pages that specify that- they won’t check. 2.) not sign up with a health care program I didn’t have. 3) not show up without an appointment and demand one. It was affecting my sleep. Someone actually told me “ don’t blame me ( for jumping the line) blame the system. “

I think it is worthwhile to call you state representative- the shifting of priorities won’t happen in a vacuum.

Every state seems to have their own priorities- I haven’t seen that extensive list for priorities for childhood illness that extend to adulthood in California.

My teacher daughter just got an appointment- last week a sibling of one of her students tested positive-

In low risk counties the criteria are different here.

I know smoking is a choice but as far as I know, in most cases, people are not denied medical care because they chose to do something that endangered their health. Line jumpers are just selfish, period. I’m counting down to dose #1 on Wednesday

well not eligible for vaccine in CA yet for being < 65. In fact even though those of us who are < 65 with underlying conditions will become eligible on 3/15, I doubt I will get an appointment on 3/15. I just got an email from my provider saying they don't have enough doses for >65 year old, therefore unable to move onto other priority groups. in fact, they have canceled and suspended their 1st dost appointments.

Meanwhile, we have scandals like this. https://www.npr.org/2021/02/24/970176532/high-end-...

I am also personally aware of people jumped the line by claiming to be educators (they are not remotely close to be educators) or knowing the right doctor.

On top of this, every provider or mass site has a different online appointment system. Unless you are some kind of computer programer, good luck getting an appointment.

I just feel defeated. I have been self isolating since last march and I really hope 2021 is not another lost year.

Chowdog- try signing up with my turn.ca.gov and on March 15 start checking for appointments, refresh often, also sign up with your county as well, also whoever your health care provider is and if you have had a visit with a specialist at ie UCSF or Stanford or other tertiary care center, sign up with them also. Also sign up with Walgreens and CVS. Many of the vaccines are going to the counties and not the health care providers. You might hear from one or more of these sites, but, actively searching yourself will up your chance. I have noticed that California is doing a much better job over the last few weeks and many places have finally started cracking down on cheaters.

Good luck! I hope you succeed very soon.

California will start next phase 16-64 years include- quote: “16-49 years with underlying health conditions or disabilities which increases their risk for severe COVID-19“ pretty soon, the distribution plan is 70-80% of vaccines go to counties 20-30% to hospitals. Despite many hospitals are in list but in reality they only allocate vaccines to their own patients, I checked all hospitals in my country, they are deeply sorry! Also, in my county website there is no option to add health conditions or if the website ungraded to add this option what proof we should show? Nobody knows! Do pcp s send us invitations like UK and European countries? Again nobody knows! With all these factors I stick with my clinic, and I reminded them a couple of days ago that I am their responsibility!!! See what they do!

    snow drop,

Up until now who can be vaccinated and where has varied county by county in CA. Starting next week, all of our counties will have the same eligibility requirements for whose turn it is. Additionally, in Santa Clara County, if it is your turn, you can make an appointment at any facility in the county that has available appointments, regardless of who your usual health care providers are.

Having had or even currently having cancer is not necessarily a pre-existing condition. I am stage IV but not immune compromised and my mo feels that I’m at no greater risk than the average person my age. I won’t be 65 until September but I am a teacher and will get my first dose on Wednesday.

Veeder14- and others. When you first go on my turn.ca.gov or whatever your states first two initials are.gov you will be asked four or five basic questions and then told whether your group is eligible. then they will probably say there are no appointments would you like to sign up to be notified. and you say yes but then you refresh the page which is that little circular arrow and go through it again and see if there’s any appointments and do that multiple times per day. some people say do it after midnight if you’re awake then and you might be surprised that some thing pops up. Eventually they will contact you when appointments are available- if you rush to the site after being notified- they may be gone already. They did contact me but, I was already vaccinated- still it was reassuring. The county also eventually contacted me to say there were vaccines available at a large county site. Kaiser also contacted me recently and appointments were still available after they contacted me. My MO at Kaiser told me that they had a committee to decide which conditions were at most risk. I have neighbors who got together and shared the checking of sites and when they found a place with vaccine appointments they notified each other. I never heard from UCSF and when I tried to sign up for Walgreens they said they couldn’t verify my existence- don’t know if that means that they had never filled an rx for me since I am Kaiser or what? I never tried to sign up with CVS.

Another full time job! Good luck

    Nkb, exbrnxgrl & Snow-drop,

I have noticed my turn (as of now) only asks for your age and occupation to verify eligibility. will the state add preexisting condition as part of criteria on 3/15? Myturn only asks preexisting conditions when you sign up to get notified, but not when you actually sign up for appointment. (again this as of now, hope this will change on 3/15).

I am also wondering what kind of proof they will ask us to provide. I would prefer to get all the documentation ready so when appointments open up, I can just move forward.

Veeder14, you will have to check my turn for appointment yourself. Don't wait for my turn to notify you. It seems to be my turn is behind. I signed up to be notified 2 weeks ago, but I got a text this week saying "thank you for signing up for my turn".

I hope things (supplies, appointment systems.. etc) will improve drastically on 3/15 and we can all get vaccinated!

My husband actually received his email from the state telling him he can make an appointment last night, so he is getting his on Tuesday. I was going to go with him to see if maybe I could get mine as well (I doubt it) since it can't hurt because I'm eligible as well. But...I am getting a bone scan and CT scan on Wednesday. I read that the vaccine could cause false positives on scans. Has anyone else heard this? Also, for those of you that got or are getting the vaccine, did you stop your treatment temporarily?

    chowdog,

I became eligible because of my work. My school district provided a letter to all employees to verify that we were in the field of education. The county also mentioned they would accept work ID’s and, of course, your driver’s license both to verify identity as well as age if you got your appointment based on that. I’ll be going to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara for the vaccine.
