Zometa Infusion Tomorrow. Any tips?

I haven't been reporting in here because the last few weeks have been a confusing healthcare blur, complicated even more by a death in our immediate family.

The Zometa infusion is to bring my very high calcium levels down, although I have no apparent bone mets. In addition, my latest chest CT a few weeks ago showed a surprising increase in lung mets, so the Ibrance I took for five months not only gave me a terrible reaction, but failed to stop progression. The only treatment I'm now on is Faslodex, until we find out what exactly is going on in my lungs. My onc wants me to get a biopsy via bronchoscopy, but I can't even get an appointment with a pulmonologist until mid-month.

Other than this, I feel pretty good, just worried and resenting my lack of control. Any tips on the Zometa?

Tina

Hi Tina, I am sorry that you had progression on Ibrance :/

I have not taken zometa, but I think I have read to take Claritin the night before and day of the injection ? You might want to post on the bone Mets thread as I believe quite a few women on that thread are receiving zometa . Take care and let us know how you are feeling after your infusion. I can't believe you have to wait until mid month for a new biopsy - can your oncologist help you get scheduled earlier ? That seems like a long time to wait :/

Tina, It is important to be well-hydrated before, during, and after the infusion. Many people do take Claritin (some take ibuprofen) the day before, day of, and day after treatment. You should also ask that the rate of infusion be set to take a minimum of 30 minutes. Many nurses set it for 15 minutes, but those with experience have found that there are fewer or milder SEs with the 30 infusion. I hope you have no issues.

    Hugs and prayers from, Lynne
