Sandy: The enclosed booths harkens when they were used on game shows moons ago. It would work well because the mic would be live only when the designated speaker was permitted to talk. Also panning away from the facemaker (how juvenile but not a first) is also a great idea.
Just read an article about how the drumpfs family Melania, the poor excuses for men he calls sons and Tiffany; not sure if Ivanka was there but if she was she was also maskless) wore masks into the arena but promptly removed them. If this was a violation of state laws, they should have been escorted out with no "ifs, ands or buts" that they were his guests; their behavior was so unpresidential (not new either).
Jackie, a write in, is still an indirect vote for drumpf. So while neither candidate benefits, it could skew the race to drumpf if his base goes all out.
My DS has been indoctrinated by his fundamentalist church (Bible thumpers who seem to have forgotten the 10 Commandments) and is a drumpf supporter. He told me today that he is so tired of the restrictions imposed on "him" by Covid, etc. I kindly reminded him that these restrictions were most likely keeping me alive and did he really think that was a bad thing? There was a pause and while I can't say it will change his vote, he now has a new perspective on the impact on others. Told him I was not yet willing to die for his need to be "maskless" or to restore his life to what it was 1 year ago. I just know that I did not raise him this way. So I do turn the tables on him when he makes statements I find objectionable and reflect drumpfs lines. He doesn't have to agree with me, I just try to get him to think about what he is spouting.

Love the meme, trill and that is exactly why I refused to watch it live

(Hey exbrnxgirl---I muted it after a while........)
After last night's debacle I just want to say this out loud:
"ANYONE WHO VOTES FOR DONALD TRUMP AFTER HAVING WATCHED THE FIRST DEBATE IS A RACIST."
I've never wanted to think that, much less say it...
but that's just how it is.
I may calm down, but I doubt it.

What the----? This is the height of paranoia. . . . .
And narcissism. . . .
They demand that everything
BE.
ALL.
ABOUT.
HIM.

I found the "Proud Boys, stand back and stand by" the most chilling. The fact that he called on a domestic terrorism group specifically, and told them to be ready is horrifying.

Betrayal - Hugs to you for helping out your students

Shutting off the microphone, good idea. There was talk about giving the moderator that ability for the next debate. Howler monkey came to mind. They spend their days going ooooooo! oooo! OOOOO! , throwing poop, and scratching their balls.
-
Chris Wallace said shutting off mic wouldn't work, TV audience may not hear it, but Biden and others in the room will and it becomes chaotic in a different way. And I trust Trump will start walking over grabbing Biden's mic! Anything's possible with this moron.

Maybe giant pillows could close in and muffle the offender. Or the "cone of silence" from Get Smart. Fines? Then again since he does not pay taxes, he would not pay fines.

Betrayal, I've introduced my bill's here before. They are all smarter than God and dyed in the wool Reps. Dh and I learned long ago not to argue with 'God'. In fact, if we go over for cook-outs ( all the brothers now are alone ( one divorce, one death ) and I usually bring a car loaded with home-cooked food. The one time the political talk started ( there had been a previous warning ) I started packing up the food I brought. That ended the political talk immediately. I do know write-in's are not a good thing -- but I have no influence over those guys unless there is food involved.
I'm happy you were able to get your son to see things that were not available before for his consideration. I wish I had a bit more influence with some in my family.
I'm anxious to find out just what the Commission will come up with, because while it will apply to both, I know it will be designed to curtail Trump who agreed to their rules and then ignored the agreement. Fact of the matter is from most of what I heard or read today it was for Trump's personal gratification and satisfaction because it didn't win any votes and easily might have lost him some.

1970s Music Icon Mac Davis Dies
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT
Mac Davis, the pop-country crossover star who wrote hits for Elvis Presley and had a No. 1 pop single of his own with "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me," died on Tuesday at a hospital here. He was 78. Davis enjoyed early success as a songwriter in the late 1960s, supplying Presley with Top 10 pop hits like "In the Ghetto" and "Don't Cry Daddy" after spending much of the decade working in sales and publishing for independent record companies. He also wrote "Something's Burning," a Top 20 pop single in 1970 for Kenny Rogers and the First Edition, and "I Believe in Music," which was recorded by the Detroit pop group Gallery, reaching the Top 40 in 1972.
1970s Music Icon Helen Reddy Dies
Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT
Helen Reddy, the Australian-born singer whose 1972 hit song "I Am Woman" became the feminist anthem of the decade and propelled her to international pop-music stardom, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She was 78. "I Am Woman" reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart at the end of 1972 (a good six months after it was released -- individual call-in requests helped build radio play) and earned her the Grammy Award for best female pop vocal performance.

BlueGirlRedState: The howler monkeys quip had me ROFLMAO. Tears streaming down face laughs. Vervet monkeys in South Africa have an interesting gender specific attribute. I will let you google that one and look for an image. Have to tell you it was an interesting sight. They steal anything that is not secure and we actually witnessed them stealing a woman's sneakers and her in hot pursuit trying to retrive them. It was like watching a 3 Stooges comedy. Their favorite heist was packets of sugar.
I am sure the pillows that drumpf's friend (the My Pillow jerk) sells would be perfect for muffling him. Didn't they have a spell in the Harry Potter series that caused one to lose their ability to speak? Perhaps we could get one of those wands for the next debate? Let the moderator control it so it doesn't become politicized.
Jackie: I totally understand about your BIL's. I no longer try to argue with my DS but I will not let him make remarks I find disparaging about race or gender because that was not the way he was raised. Unfortunately his in-laws have had a negative influence on him politically and when he starts I either shut him down, toss his words back at him and ask what does this sound like or tell him I have to go because I refuse to engage in this conversation. He seems to be getting it that my tolerance level is nil when he goes off on a tangent but I also tell him I still love him but don't particularly like him at that moment. It defuses the potential powderkeg situation.

Betrayal, considering how Melania and Donnie don't share a bed, the comparison to vervets might have some truth. xD

I have the issue of Trump talking over Biden during the next debate solved.
The moderator stands in front of Trump and Biden with a leaf blower. Any time someone (most likely Trump) speaks out of turn, the moderator turns on the leaf blower and aims at their hair.
Make sure there is a video screen somewhere so Trump can view himself while getting his wind blower hair treatment. Also, allow the audience to react rather than sit quietly
He will learn to stop talking out of turn.

70 thousand for hair care vs leaf blower??? Yeah, that should do itππππππ
