I've found myself watching a lot more animal videos lately. It's the best thing for keeping sane thoughts.

Alice...it seems that that coping strategy is widely used.

Yesterday I'm doing my usual evening dog walking except that I've been have terrible hip pain, so just trying to make it home without falling. A neighbor, I barely know, asked how I was and I told her. She said she would pray for me and then went on to say how she prayed over another neighbor from her church. I asked her not to pray for me because I trust science not prayer. Oh well, bottom line, she says that praying helps her. Not about me at all. And so it goes....need to find another cat/dog video

Magiclight, I hope your hip pain is nothing serious. Do you know the cause? I fell in June, landing on my rear, and am still hobbling around.

I hope you're both feeling better soon! Having started in Anastrozole a few months ago, every joint ache makes me worried about SE's. As a Massage Therapist, I have to take good care of my joints, especially thumbs and wrists.

I have a few religious friends who politely ask about praying for us instead of "Imma pray 4 U!!" At least it shows some sincerity for the target's wishes rather than just tending to their own desires to feel good about doing nothing of value.

Before I share this meme, where do you all draw the line on funny vs offensive? It’s a drawing, not photo but language and humor aren’t for all.

To All: I am so depressed for you ladies south of the 49th Parallel. I am depressed, anxious and angry and I am a Canadian. But it is like having a sibling in serious trouble. It'll be at least 30 years before SCOTUS is put back together in some semblance of balance. Barrett apparently is a member of "People of Paise" who believe "the man is the head and the woman the handmaid" That does not bode well.

I guess the border should now have written on the Canadian side, pointing south "WELCOME TO GILEAD"

Illam: your cartoon might get deleted. Glad I got to laugh first.

I also laughed but I'm pretty an anything goes kind of person when it comes to anti-religious humor.

Elderberry- the husband and I are actually looking to see what country might take us if this election turns out badly.

Elderberry, true, we are a mess right now. I may have an unpopular opinion on politics but honestly, I don't like either option and I really don't like having only two options (yes, we have more but realistically, it doesn't play out that way). I have Democratic and republican friends, both are good people, both generally want the same things. I do my best to listen and understand both and I find that individuals aren't nearly the problem that media and Facebook would have us believe. This failure to remain civil and objective online is what I find most sad and frustrating.

illimae: so true. But as one comedian put it "Here's your choices - rat poison or tuna melt" or something like that. I don't "do" Facebook. But I have filters to sniff out the bullcrap that pops up there and occasionally gets forwarded to me by friends.

We have three major parties, plus the Greens and a few Communists. Greens usually get one Federal seat. It always ends up Federally being Conservative or Liberal, sometimes the New Democratic Party gets a decent number of seats and occasionally they even get to be the winning party in Provincial elections. I agree, most of us want the same thing. It is the tyranny of the minority that concerns me. We don't elect the Prime Minister. Whichever party gets the most votes then the leader of that party becomes PM. The Electoral College in the US really has to go. All other democracies say the most popular vote wins. Ontario and Quebec pretty much seal the fate of the rest of us because they have the larger populations. So we out West are always grumbling or seething ;-)

Do they teach critical thinking in American schools?. They did in high school here in Canada when I was in HS. I don't know if that is still on the curriculum. It should be!

Elderberry, I can only speak to Southern California education from1980-1993 but I recall nothing that would be considered critical thinking. For me it was mostly memorization and textbook curriculum. You were often seen as dragging the class/schedule down by asking questions and many teachers did not like or respect being challenged. My dad is an avid history fan, his parents emigrated from Hungary in the 40’s, when my brother (6years older) disagreed on some “facts” in history class related to WW2, he was kicked out. Later, when I had the same teacher, who recognized my family name, I lasted a few weeks due to harsh treatment but I got a B in my night school history class.

Anyway, sorry, I got us off track. I to am very concerned about anyone in government who has difficulty remaining impartial due to personal beliefs, religious or otherwise.
