CA 27-29 rising after 2 cycles of Ibrance & letrozole

Hello everyone,

I've recently been diagnosed with metastatic disease to bone, ribs and spine, which was found because my MO was running a CA 27-29 tumor marker test since diagnosis in 2009. In June of 2020, it was discovered that I had mets on PET scan and I started Ibrance and letrozole; however, after only 2 cycles with 3 weeks in between each (the waiting week and 2 weeks to get my WBC/ANC to the appropriate level), my CA 27-29 has been rising. It was 196 in June, 212 in July, and 313 in August. My MO is sending me for a PET scan, because she believes that my cancer may be progressing. She suggested changing/adding (not sure which) Faslodex (fulvestrant) injection following the PET results. Has anyone experienced this scenario?

Thanks, Katrose

    Hi Katrose

My story is a bit different I’ve had bone mets for 7years and the first 6 normal markers. A year ago they started going up which prompted a change from tamoxifen to ibrance/letrozale in jan but my markers continued to go up. Multiple pet scans later we decided to ditch the tumor marker test and just go with what the pets showed which was stability. I hope that is the case for you as well.

    Hi Kristi,

Thanks so much for your reply and letting me know that the PET is what I should be going by. So happy to hear your PET scans show stability!

    Wishing you continued stability!
