Low White Blood Cell Count

Options

Hello, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer (metastasis in liver and bones) in Dec. 2018 and have been going through chemotherapy (Taxol) up until June 2020. I just started Ibrance (100mg) but my Neutrophil count is very low (1.0). Is there any way to increase my Neutrophil count? Thank you so much!

Are you getting neulasta shots to increase white blood cells? If not, ask your MO. And also get some chicken bone soup.

    Get well

There are injections your Dr can prescribe which stimulate your bone marrow to make more cells. They're called granulocyte colony stimulating factors (GCSF). Neupogen, Grastofil, Neulasta are some of the products commonly used. I'm using grastofil atm to keep my counts up.

There's no other way to get your counts up as far as I know. It's either the shots or taking breaks from chemo to give bone marrow time to recover.

    Thank you for your responses!
I had Neupogen shots when I was undergoing chemotherapy, but my oncologist said she doesn't recommend taking those shots during Ibrance (not sure why). So I wanted to look for any other way to increase the Neutrophil count. I will definitely look into the chicken bone soup, thanks!

Hi Cupcake for days, I am on Ibrance and have also had low neutrophil counts, at the end, some cycles. The oncologists don't recommend Neupogen with Ibrance. Mine explained that on chemo, your white blood cells are killed off. With Ibrance, they are suspended or something like that so neupogen is not used. Anyways, there is a really good thread on Ibrance in the Stage IV only . I have learned so much from other women on the discussion thread about side effects, etc. Just search for Ibrance and you should find it! Come check it out.
