Whole brain radiation

Options

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. My mom has been “stable” which for metastatic breast cancer just means ups and downs as we all know. For the last year her liver has really been affected but we’ve been managing the side effects. We are at the point of being out of treatments. Two nights ago, out of nowhere, my mom started to become delirious. We rushed her to the ER. They did a CT scan and found a brain met. They admitted her to the hospital. Several hours later she had two grand mal seizures. They repeated the CT scan and then did an MRI and found 3 total tumors in her brain. We are devastated. Due to the confusion and delirium she’s not a candidate for gamma knife, and they are recommending whole brain radiation. Does anyone have any experience with that? Due to COVID my mom is all alone in the hospital, confused and probably scared. Sorry for rambling but I just am beyond devastated. She is seeing the radiology oncologist tomorrow. Looking for advice. How long does whole brain radiation take? How many sessions usually? Thank you and wishing everyone well during this tough time 🙌🙏

    Hi,

If you check in at the Brain Mets thread, several members there have had WBR and can answer your questions. Much love.

Thank you for responding. Been so long since I’ve posted I forgot how things worked. We made the decision yesterday to bring my mom home on Hospice Care. We pray she will be in peace, at home for her final days, weeks or months.
