Mets to pelvis / sacrum

Hi, is there anyone here with pelvic / sacrum mets? My PET scan on 23rd Jan showed mets in my iliac bone and pelvis, and in my spine down to L2. I had radiation to the spine, and changed treatment to Abraxane. My pelvis had been asymptomatic.

But over the past month I have been having pain that started intermittent and is now constant. The pain is really low like my sacrum and on the left side of my pelvis. I feel like I need to do a bowel movement all the time and have 'period pain' that comes and goes (I had a hysterectomy in Feb 2019). My onc will scan again in 2 weeks when I finish this cycle of treatment.

I'm looking for anyone who has lost mobility due to pelvic mets. Are my symptoms similar to yours? What happened & what treatments helped.

Thanks, Julie

jgbarlett- You may want to check out the Bone Mets Thread-- link below. Some posters there may be able to help you. I have bone mets to spine-- cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral and pelvis. I have had pain in the hips and lumbar/sacral areas, but I also have rheumatoid arthritis and chronic low back issues from lifting at work. But I have not had as you describe (bowel movement feeling or period pain). And I have not lost mobility. Sorry I could not be of help to you.

Yeah, I have them. Or had, I dont know really, my lower back is a mess and have mets L2-L5/S1 as well, right side only.

For over 30 years I have had issues with the right sacroilliac joint, usually brought on by twisting motion when doing sports. Last summer early I did something in the pool in a twisting motion and that set off a most bizarre chain reaction of events. Really long story short, I spent four months having increasing difficulty using my right leg until finally something fractured at the end of October. Likely due to tumor flare in the SI joint from the initial injections. Excruciating pain and I couldn't walk, ended up in hospital for a few days as they thought it was spinal cord impingement even though they had just scanned for that. Few weeks later they did five sessions of rads on the area. I was on crutches for four months and now use a cane for the first few steps from sitting/laying down or if I am walking a while. I also have a bunch of PT exercises for my hips that I do that help a lot. Anther month or so and I'll be back on track.

The period pain thing I can kind of relate as I had that a little bit initially, but that has gone after the rads and treatment. The other sensation you are describing is far more concerning - I wouldn't wait two weeks to see the MO with that. The first thing anyone asks if you present with low back pain is if you are having numbness in the groin area, incontinence, or any other disturbance in the area due to the risk of cauda equina syndrome. Tumors can cause compression on the nerve bundles in the sacrum, and this is considered a surgical emergency. Are you having difficulty walking or with sciatica down the legs?

No im not having any mobility issues atm but am concerned about that being a next step.

The pain has been a little better over the last days, so maybe ive been overexaggerating. I feel like such a hypochondriac with all this stuff.

    Thanks for your reply.
