CA 27-29 Question

I have a question about CA 27-29. Mine has been slowly creeping up while still remaining in the 'normal' level. This last test it jumped 7 points in 2 months while before it was always just a point or two. I do have a lot of inflammation from the radiated bone lesion, sciatica and arthritis. Could it be from that or does it mean that the cancer is on the move? Also, is it possible that mucositis can cause the level to rise? Is it possible for the level to fluctuate? Anything else that Google hasn't said that maybe someone here experienced? Finally, is it possible for the level to fluctuate? Thanks everyone.

My levels can and do fluctuate within the normal level. My MO has advised he suspects it's due to inflammation. My scans indicate NEAD, so we continue to monitor the levels.

Thanks so much Goodie. My doctor indicated previously that he's not concerned while it's in normal limits. Plus my scans have been good as well. I haven't seen him since I got my last results but I'll bring it up to him again when I see him in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, your reply put me more at ease. Thanks again.

I too wonder about these levels. Mine has increased every month for the last 4 months in a row. Small movement, but movement all the same. Up 11 points total from May to August. I mentioned to MO could it be inaccuracy or progression not seen on scan yet (scan done in July was stable). She said could be either. She was concerned also---she brought up the subject, not me. Next scan in Oct so we will see if still stable or progression. But I wonder if could be somewhere scan doesn't see. We do CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis. No MRI's. No PET. No bone scan. So will the CT be enough to see possible progression. That is my question. My numbers are at their highest now of anytime since we have done the test. Mine ARE NOT in the normal range. And I have RA so I wonder if inflammation can be to blame. But I have had the RA all along also. So many questions. So much confusion.

    hi

I wasn’t wanted to let you know that my tm’s were normal for the first 6 years then last December they went above normal-my onc moved from ct’s to a pet scan which showed no activity(I have many bone mets)they went up another 10 points in feb and I was scanned again-no activity. In May I was diagnosed with schoegrens syndrome and lupus and last week my tm’s doubled-I’m now at 110. I’m getting scanned Tuesday(again)and I’m hoping that once again I’m stable. My onc is perplexed he said he’s never had someone’s tm’s go up over 9 months with no sign of progression so maybe it’s from the autoimmune issues-at least that’s what I’m hoping. Good luck on your scans.

I saw my doctor yesterday and we talked about my results for my last TM's. He said TM's are very finicky and can fluctuate. He said he doesn't get concerned until they become very high and he would never base treatment on TM's alone. He assured me not to worry about it and we'll just keep an eye on them. He did make me feel better, but of course I will still worry. I just wanted to let you all know what he said about fluctuations.
