Surgery for lung mass??

Why does my onc not even entertain the idea of surgery for a single mass on my right lung? If I'm willing to give up body parts that have cancer, why does she Care? I know surgery isn't standard for metastatic tumors but I have to wonder...HAS ANYONE HERE HAS LUNG TUMORS REMOVED? WHAT ABOUT PROTON RADIATION THERAPY? Ladies, I'm new to this stage 4 thing, and suddenly it's like time has stopped. My onc is not concerned that my markers are slowly being discovered and she's ok to wait to start chemo, it seems indefinitely!!!! I think we should expect to live and survive. We are not statistics!! We're living bodies that can heal!!!

Why do I feel like a second class citizen? ☹️

Flower, if you write the chronology of events - diagnosis , investigations , talks to oncologist - in more detail and in a sequence I am sure people will be able to give you ideas of what why and how.

Ask your oncologist all those questions as well.

Another thing to do is to ask for a second opinion.

Yet another is to see someone from complementary therapy.

Cancer specially metastatic is a systemic disease so surgery is not usually an answer. I mentioned it in another thread to you just as an option - in the case I was referring to it was not done immediately after diagnosis, why not to buy and read the book?

I have only bone mets but my onc was not in favor of any local treatment for my breast tumor or my mets at first.

But I recently had rads to my spine and she also said I may be a candidate for breast surgery.

It may be that they want to see how we respond to chemo and targeted therapy first.

Agree with anotherone, second opinion may a good idea, even if only to put your mind at ease.

And YES we should expect to live!

Knowing the reasons behind what my doctor advises helps me trust her judgment and alleviates my fear. Don't be afraid to ask for an explanation. Good Communication from our providers is so important
