Shazza, just out of curiosity, what were the SEs you/others experienced? Neuropathy? Did you lose your hair?

This is Oraxol. There were a number of posters about it at ASCO this year. It's an oral form of Taxol. It's mostly being studied in South America but there are some trials in the US. Dana Farber was doing a sort-of Phase 1 of it. The Phase 3 is out of South America and is due to be finished at the end of this year.

They have shown that the blood levels of Oraxol and Taxol are the same. So the bioavailability is OK. Which means the effectiveness is probably the same but not a sure thing. The digestive tracts does all sorts of things to drugs. The rumor is that the side effects are not as bad. The posters I saw said so but I don't know enough about the SEs of either drug to tell whether that was drug company hype.

I lost my hair on the iv version but after 2 years it had grown back a bit. Once I swapped to Oraxol it came in thicker and returned to its pre chemo self. I had had my iv dose reduced over time to combat neuropathy, nausea and general fatigue. When I started Oraxol my dose was much higher but I had no real side effects.

Looks like there's been some progress on oral taxol.

They also plan to release results at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Conference.

The good thing seems to be that the side effects profile seems a lot better including no hair loss.
