OMG That kitty looks like my Grace!
-
I have a question, y'all: Do you think (if you've had or been close to a black cat) that black cats seem to be uniquely affectionate? I've had 2 in my life, one of whom is my dear Dobby. (I'm attaching a pic of him in his last year's Halloween costume. He was a batcat.) My adult kids say that they've never seen a cat as attached as he is to me. He doesn't just follow me from room to room....He's always in the same room I am, and he talks to me throughout the day. He sleeps on top of me apparently all night, every night. If I call him, he immediately comes running. And his absolute favorite thing is to ride on top of my shoulder, usually when I'm fixing dinner. My other black cat was the same way. They both also loved faucets and climbed everything that can be climbed. Is this a fluke or genetics?

Fairchild - Love the BATCAT COSTUME!!!
I cannot speak to your question as I have not had a black cat ever. Surely others can address this better than me.
I can say several of my kitties have done many of these same things you describe. Following me room to room and talking to me especially...nearly all have loved faucets/running water...one (Ragdoll Max) specifically sleeps on my right shoulder/arm as often as he can.

We had a black cat that slept with my teenage son every night, sharing his pillow. In the winter he got under the covers and in the summer he faced the other way, still with his head on the pillow. Our current black cat comes when he's called, 'walks' on a leash and is with us when not napping.
From my shelter experience, black cats are usually pretty nice although sometimes shy at first. It's the torties we watch out for. There are exceptions of course.
-
I think the whole thing if a black cat is a clingy one or not depends on their personality. My late kitty Charcoal was a clinger but Princess is a bit more aloof. She has her moments when she will follow me everywhere, but most of the time she is doing her own thing. The one thing I did notice about my black cats and even my Tabby kitty Grace is that they came to the front of the cages that the shelters had them in. They have been nothing but total sweethearts and lovebugs
-
I've had probably four or five black kitties and they were all, without exception, love bugs. Love me some black kitties!
Gumdoctor and Fairchild, you both have gorgeous kitties.
-
Fairchild, Dobby is cute!
He reminds me of my Charcoal. Charcoal is in my avatar with his favorite nap time buddy, Bear-Bear! When we got Princess and eventually Grace last November, they inherited Bear-Bear!
-
Oh I love love love a black kitty! My Lucy cat was so connected to me and would talk to me all the time. I hope to have a black cat in my future again some day.
Fairchild that costume is so great!
Gumdoctor that is a beautiful kitty
-
I had a beautiful black kitty when I was a kid who was very connected to me.
My current kitties are big chatters!
Nadia sleeps up on top of the laundry basket in the corner of my bedroom, and Simone (the sentry) sleeps at/against/on my feet.

We bid farewell this morning to our Chloe Kitty Cat (1999-2019). She had been declining for the last few weeks and stopped eating or drinking in the last couple of days. She had a peaceful end, which is what I promised her all those years ago. I will miss my old girl.
-
Edj3 so sorry for the loss of your Chloe. I am glad she had a peaceful passing. The loss is the hardest part about loving our four footed ones.
-
Edj3, so sorry to hear this. take comfort in knowing Chloe is romping with the other furbabies that have gone before her across the 🌈 Bridge.
-
my condolences edj3. What a nice long life she had!
-
Edj3, so sorry to hear of Chloe’s passing. I’m glad you were able to keep your promise of a peaceful passing to her.
-
Edj, so sorry to hear your dear kitty has departed. She had a long, full and happy life with you. I hope your memories will help with the pain of her loss.
-
Edj3- so sorry for your loss! I'm thankful Chole had a peaceful passing. Big hug!

Some pictures from my day catsitting today. This is James and I love him dearly. He won't be with us too much longer as he has cancer. He is well loved by his owners. I'm going to miss him so much.

-
Cowgirl13, James is just beautiful. What a lovely, lovely cat. And Luna's little face is so cute with those markings!
Haliday, are Holly and Dolly litter mates? So gorgeous. My kitties are also indoor only and they love to watch what we call Bird TV. No deer for them to see, alas, but lots of bunnies, birds and squirrels. Our yard is like a Disney movie.
-
Edj3 - I have been without internet for a few days.
I am so very sorry to hear of your Chloe. I am sure Chloe had a wonderful life with you to love and care for her.
All of us here will be thinking of you as you adjust to this life change.
Love to you,
Gumdoctor

My indoor kitties love Bird TV. They recognize the words "bird" and "critter" -- when I say those words, they rush straight to the window... LOL to the Disney movie... me too.... In my neighborhood of small lots and houses, we nevertheless get birds, bunnies, squirrels and chipmunks, plus lizards and butterflies and surely mice and other unseen nocturnals (i've seen raccoon, coyote and possum...) Sometimes a bluejay will come to the screen and 'lecture'/taunt the kitties through the screen.
-
Edj3 sincere condolences. What a blessing that Chloe was such a wonderfully long-lived cat. A loved cat's death leaves love and grief scrawled all over your heart. The love will turn out to have been written deeply, in tattoo ink. Very best wishes Susanna

Cowgirl and Haliday, what beautiful pictures of James, Luna, Holly and Dolly. Sorry to hear that James is not well Cowgirl. Glad to hear he is surrounded by love.
This is our bird and beast window
Alannah loves anything with animals. Netflix Watership Down series and any David Attenborough series are her favourites. She has no interest in anything else.
She is also a very affectionate, super chatty, lovely, snuggly black cat.

Just for a giggle. Not mine.
