Perfect storm of stomach issues

After getting back from a wonderful trip, I appear to have gotten some traveler's stomach issues, a stomach bug, and then restarted Xeloda which has created the perfect storm of issues. At first, it just seemed like my normal, but I have been stuck on a liquid diet (& still getting sick) and the couple times a piece of toast was tried, it went very badly. I did have a fever on Friday, and reached out to my MO; so, they have been involved from the beginning & every day this week. Initially they had me take meds to stop it, but when they didn't work decided best to get the bug out. Has anyone else had an experience like this where your stomach just couldn't handle anything? And if so, what did they eventually do? I'm pushing fluids by sips throughout the day so not dehydrated, but any time I eat jello or drink broth, etc., getting sick happens pretty quickly. Waiting on todays call.... the 8 pound wait loss is great, but I'm beyond hangry at this point, lol.

I did have a bout with colitis a year ago, and it sounds a lot like what you are going through. I had six weeks of broth, and worked my way up to smoothies, then solid food.

If you have Zofran or Compazine handy, take them. They slow down motility, so stuff might actually stay in your stomach for longer. They put me on antibiotics for the colitis. I can't remember which ones.

In addition to the upchucking, do you have any other symptoms, like bloating, or altered bowel habits? Of course, if you aren't doing inputs, there might not be a whole lot of output.

If it is from traveller's tummy, you have to give Pepto-Bismol a shot. The old fashioned kind, with bismuth in it. Get your doc to clear it. I was raised in Mexico, and that stuff is the bomb for putting right what is wrong with a tummy. The last time I tried to get it in the States, they'd taken the bismuth out, so I have to buy veterinary pepto now. I've taken it with no harm, and MO's blessing.

Hoping you are feeling better. Being off your feed is hard because it steals your energy, and robs you of the nutrients you need to stay strong for chemo.

Thanks blainejennifer & mods. MO sent me last night to a walk in clinic bc they could do a quicker work up than at office. That dr strongly thinks it is travelers stomach; so, I've started cipro. Dr. says I should know within 24 hours or so if it is solving the problem. Sure hope it works!

Cipro! That's the antibiotic they put me on. It took about two days for the symptoms to start fading away when I took it.

Hoping you are already feeling better,

    Jennifer

I too hope you are feeling better, but if not the very first thing I would do is stop the Xeloda. It can wait an extra week whilst you get all this straightened out.

Stomach/bowel problems are the worst. I hate them more than pain.

It is interesting that you are hungry. Usually when I'm tossing cookies I don't want to eat at all.
