Neupogen and Neulasta stopped working. Anyone?

Started 1st IV chemo in May 2018, Carbo/Gemzar. Missed most of the 2nd dose of Gemzar due to low counts. In October 2018 had last treatment due to neutrophils not coming up after Neulasta or Neupogen. Luckily, scan in November showed no sign of the liver mets I had when I started chemo. So combo worked but I had to stop. Put on Faslodex.

Dr thought I might have MDS but bone marrow biopsy did not show any problem. Since October platelets and red blood cells have returned to normal. My WBC is still only 1.9 and ANC has inched up to 1.2.

CT scans this week show 3 low density lesions in liver. I am scared Faslodex is not going to keep the cancer under control. Not sure what my options are since I can't take anything that will lower my white counts.

Anyone have this happen or know someone in a similar situation?

I’m have not had the experience you describe but thought perhaps a CDK 4/6 inhibitor might be in your future. Verzenio has less effect on blood counts than Ibrance or Kisqali so that may be an option.

You could possiblyupdate your signature with the other treatments you mention. That would help others looking at your history understand the situation a little better.

Hi Gina, I don't know anyone in the same boat, but Xeloda won't lower your white count. It seems to be the first choice for liver lesions, though I got my liver lesion after 14 months on it.

If your bone marrow isn't making enough of the right cells you likely either need to baby it for a while (as you've been trying to do), or maybe there's something else that helps raise the white count?
