Heal - Netflix Documentary
I've gone on record many times to say I'm a firm believer in traditional medicine, or conventional medicine, however you want to say it.
As we go about getting medical treatment for bc, many of us, no matter what stage, seek additional ways to aid in our healing, referred to as “complimentary medicine." “in addition to". I'm a believer in this as well (tho I would probably not be here without conventional medicine).
Anyway, Netflix has a documentary out now called “Heal" and it explores these concepts. I'm not finished watching it, but what I've seen so far is at least inspirational, even if I don't completely agree with the whole perspective. I've read numerous books on the matter, and some of the authors of those books speak in the documentary.
I wanted to mention it in case anyone would find it interesting and because not everyone is a reader, some people like to get info audibly/visually. Watching the document, for me, is a form of complimentary medicine in that it feeds my soul with positiveness, possibility and hope.
From the documentary website: “Director Kelly Noonan Gores' documentary takes us on a scientific and spiritual journey where we discover that our thoughts, beliefs, and emotions have a huge impact on our health and ability to heal. The latest science reveals that we are not victims of unchangeable genes, nor should we buy into a scary prognosis. The fact is we have more control over our health and life than we have been taught to believe. This film will empower you with a new understanding of the miraculous nature of the human body and the extraordinary healer within us all.“

Divine, I think I watched that or something very, very similar. My mother sent me a DVD, which I played in my car on the way to work (audio only). I felt good just listening to it as well. I don't buy into everything but do believe that positive thoughts/emotions/experiences impact our overall health and what is going on in our body. Worst case scenario, they can't hurt.

Out of curiosity, I looked up some reviews this morning on the documentary. I mean, I look at reviews for most stuff. The film is described as being about “faith healing". I am and have been open to this concept, in addition to being treated with traditional medicine.
It says some of the stories told on the film leave out specific information:
“For instance, author and international speaker Anita Moorjani claims that her lymphoma left her body riddled with tumors as her organs started to fail. She went into a coma, where she traveled to a realm and discovered that the cause of her cancer was residual negative feelings she had towards her dead father. After she made peace with her father, she woke up and the cancer went away. Except, and she neglects to mention this, Moorjani also had her lungs drained and began chemotherapy, treatment she'd resisted for over three years."
Sooooo, view it with a grain of salt. But be open to possibilities. How many times are we told to listen to our own “gut", our own instincts. My gut says go with traditional medicine and compliment that by addressing our whole life—relationships, stress, diet, exercise, enjoyment, environment, purpose. In hindsight, I know there were many areas in my life prior to bc where I was not taking care of myself. I thought things were good enough, but I truly wasn't being honest with myself. It's been a process of shedding old patterns of thinking and old ways of living and adopting new, improved approaches. While continuing with medical treatment.......

oh yes I read Anita’s book. And she very lightly glazed over the hardcore chemo she had but the book strongly focuses on her near death experience. I find most people’s stories to be the same. Hence, I stick to conventional medicine and also use traditional medicines to help support me. Plus, I love traditional medicine! It makes me happy and helps take care of the emotional and energetic part of me that needs support. Conventional medicince takes care of the physical part of me that needs support.
