I'd used a pedometer here and there in the past, but I got a Fitbit at the end of July, 2015 while I was still in radiation. Yesterday I received an email that I was at the "Great Wall" achievement level, having walked the length of the Great Wall of China since I began (5,500 miles).
On my "Camino," I'm at 175.20 km (about 109 miles).
-
JKL2017 and Egads - thank you SO much for your words and understanding too. So helpful. I've actually broken down a few times in this New Year, not sure what it is as I'm usually so optimistic and strong. My mom thinks it's because I've held so strong during surgery and radiation and now that I've finally got a chance to rest it's just all catching up to me now. I can't blame it on the hormone therapy as I haven't started yet! Maybe it's close to that time of month for me, I always get super emotional during that time.
It helps to hear you say it's OK to have our moments, that we all do.
JKL2017 - wow, I am so glad the picture of little Domino brought back such sweet memories and that moment for you!
Will chime in on other stuff later! Feeling sentimental today so here is a throwback pic of Domino with her sis Kit Kat, whom you don't see a lot of pictures of because she went to doggie heaven in March last year. But we still think of her always and miss her everyday. Domino always looked after her too, as you can see from the pic.
-
Ksuze - Wow...Huge congrats on the Great Wall accomplishment!! 5500 miles...….impressive and inspirational to read, but astounding when one gets a visual of your accomplishment.....
You've taken the Paleo 'walk far' mantra to a whole new level! That's some serious steps....mind-bogglingly amazing!!
Pebbles (Flintstone) - Whether it's being stoic during treatment, the shock of diagnosis, the total upheaval of our lives and perhaps even a bit of denial of the heavy reality of it all, fallout happens.....and like any traumatic event, sometimes delayed by years. I think the fallout is healthy. To keep it buried deep is only going to build a very strong foundation of PSTD (which I think a great majority of us experience). Letting go gives a sense of relief and an opportunity to face the scary moments, helping us to deal with it and land on our feet. I often found myself mourning of the loss of my 'old life, old me'. There were days I would get resentful of the 'stolen' blissful ignorance of my own mortality. Having it waved in my face has def made me 'different'. It changes all the time, but as the years go by I've learned to accept my new reality and make good with it for the most part.....and make a happy life. I'm def not at the end of the road, but can now enjoy the trip. The tears and howls along the way have gotten me this far, so roll with the upset darlin', every tear is a step closer.
Domino and Kit Kat make a fuzzy Oreo....too cute!!

TWO CENT TUESDAY – On Women…
Two intriguing news articles came up this week…..
A remarkable discovery of a Medieval woman's skeletal remains was made recently in the graveyard of a monastery at Dalheim, Germany. Written records state that a fire destroyed the monastery in 1244, andscientific dating of the skeletal remains put the lady's age somewhere between 45 to 60….radiocarbon-dating telling us she lived somewhere from the 9th to 11th centuries. Scientists have uncovered bones dating back millions of years, so why the big fuss?
Her teeth.
The Wow Factor rests in the plaque on her teeth. Plaque…yuck, but realize that Medieval peeps did brush with a rudimentary form of the modern day toothbrush (or even sticks and twigs), but let's face it, Crest, Scope & floss weren't a concern. In this case the lack of modern dental care is a boon to women everywhere. Examination of this lady's teeth showed embedded finely ground bits of lapis lazuli….a gorgeous ultramarine stone used for paint pigment (as well as many other decorative uses) back in the day. Lapis had only one source at the time – Afghanistan. It would have been toted all the way along the Silk Road to Germany.
This made the cost of lapis lazuli on par with gold, and such items were kept strictly under lock and key. Sugar and salt ranked in under locked status too (should have kept them locked up!).All evidence points towards this woman being a Scribe/Artist. How'd she get lapis in her tartar? Artists are notorious for licking the ends of their brushes while working.
Her work would have looked something like this….
Keeping in mind that at this time less than 1% of women were educated beyond knitting and field work, making this lady's career incredible. She must have been artistically trained, literate, versed in Latin (higher education), and completely trusted…..a diamond in the rough, a fledgling suffragette. Pretty impressive feminine stuff for the 9th-11th century, and the men that had to smarts to recognize feminine ability & worth.
FAST FORWARD TO 2019
The Consumer Electronic Show (CES), a heavy hitting presenter within the tech industry. The show premiers the latest and greatest tech advances, and getting a coveted award from the CES virtually ensures a successful product getting to market….and turning it into a cash cow. When Lora DiCarlo, owner, operator and developer of sex toys won the CES Innovation Award for her Osé Massager (a micro robotically designed cutting edge sex toy for women, produced in conjunction with Oregon State University) she was overjoyed….a feather in the company's cap. She could have been knocked over by that feather within a few days of receiving notification of her award.
They revoked it.
The CES justified the revocation citing the product as "immoral, obscene, indecent, profane or not in keeping with CEA's image". Ok, it's a tech show, understandable right? Not so fast. "Sex toys and sex tech have regularly been featured at CES. One CES event in 2016 featured an oral sex stimulating devise (constructed for males), and the company OhMiBod has shown it's 'Real Sex Dolls' for years now at the CES. The film producer Naughty America has even been allowed to show private Virtual Reality pornography….oh, and their demonstration areas at the CES show are filled with 'Booth Babes'.
So according to CES this is just fine, moral & technologically worthy…….
…..and this is immoral, obscene, indecent, profane…….
I'm thinking the CES has a problem with women's sexual health, believing it's dirty, and not so much for the fellas. Who else smells the blatant sexism on so many levels?
Hmmmmmm. My 2 cents…..perhaps the CES would do well by glimpsing back into the 10th century and a small monastery graveyard in Germany…..sink their teeth into the importance of women…..as humans. THAT would be worth it's weight in Lapis Lazuli.
Have we come a long way baby, or is it a just a rollercoaster ride depending on the century? What say y'all?
Have a splendiferous....yet moral day ladies!

God forbid we enjoy something all men feel entitled to!
-
Inna (godda davida) - I was debating the whole debacle last night with my Cavedude, and I came to a few other conclusions. First, I'd left out a whole group of the opposite sex that use 'female oriented' sex aids (my bad), so they'd be missing out too. Second, how about the biomimicry/micro robotic engineering that could be used in so many other incredible ways (eg; prostetics) …..but won't be on display to the market because of the CES's morality rhetoric! I'm confident that the brilliant young (and apparently mostly female) minds that engineered the product to a reality will have the smarts to take their 'business' elsewhere....still, it should have been on display...with advances in tech the sooner the better.
What the hell happened here?.....why on earth would the CES stop this award in it's tracks and ban the product from the show when they historically have allowed sexual charged items/advertising? After some further digging,I found that another female oriented sex toy was given an award back in 2012. So why did they put the brakes on this one? I smell a rat. Payoff? Nepotism?
You wrote: "God forbid we enjoy something all men feel entitled to!" I bet that is exactly what the CES was thinking while revoking the award!

Greetings Cave Chickaroos!
Let's give a shout out to......
WORKOUT WEDNESDAY – A Pressing Matter!!
Right on the heels of the last workout post, we'll be taking a boo at another 'bad boy/girl' iconic gym manouver….the classic BENCH PRESS. *cue raunchy guitar music*…..
The bench press is commonly regarded as a "chest" exercise, which is a misconception. The bench press primarily uses your pecs, shoulders, triceps, forearms, but also hits the lats, traps, rhomboids, and pretty much every muscle in your upper body. A wunderkind. Check it out….
While a great majority of us have concerning post surgery issues (LE), and you may want to run screaming from the bench press, know that it can be done in a very safe and effective manner….barely any weight has to be used and you'll still be increasing range of motion, muscle tone, helping the lymphatic system to drain and strengthening the upper bod. No one has to develop pecs of steel to reap the benefits.
***That said, those with severe LE may want to pass up on bench pressing, there are so many other moves you can make.***
Before the instructional vids I'm going to harp on (and on….again) about form and starting points........
I don't care if you can lift your Buick and throw it across a parking lot….start with a PVC pipe, broomstick, or light barbell/dumbbells if you're advanced, to learn proper form.
Graduate upping the weight of your bar SLLLOOOWWWLLLY…or even keep it light forever. You'll still be 'benching', gaining the benefits and able to proudly exclaim 'Bro, do you even lift?!!?' to friends & family
)))
Before moving on to the vids I'll once again holler my safety warnings….like so:
*** PLEASE BE SURE TO WATCH THE VIDS (a few times) BEFORE ATTEMPTING. THIS IS A MOVE THAT COULD CAUSE INJURY IF DONE IMPROPERLY. BODY & ARM PLACEMENT THROUGHOUT, AND GRIP ARE VITAL.
START WITH LITTLE TO NO WEIGHT AND PROGRESS TO WEIGHT BEARING ONLY IF COMFORTABLE. ADD WEIGHT OVER THE COURSE OF MANY WEEKS AND ONLY IN TINY INCRIMENTS.
DON'T LET THE WARNINGS SCARE YOU OFF, YOU'LL BE STARTING LIGHT (EG: BROOMSTICK, 1 SET ONLY 3-5 REPS) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND REVIEWING THE TIPS LISTED AFTER THE VIDS TO REINFORCE PROPER FORM ***
The following vids show fellas using lots of weight…....remember you're starting with a broomstick or pvc pipe….
Excellent instructional….skip to the 1:00 point for the good stuff…
A little silly, but great proper form vid….
Mistakes in form….skip thru to start info at :30 second point of vid.
TIPS:
- Using a Barbell? – the standard weight is 45 lbs, but this may be too heavy to start. No matter how strong you are, I recommend starting with a PVC pipe or broomstick to learn proper form. If you never add more weight, no problem, there are still benefits.
- Squeeze your shoulder blades together (as if you were trying to hold a pencil between them), press your lats into the bench, and raise your chest up slightly towards the bar.
- When you look up, your eyes should be just north of the bottom of the bar – you should see the bar directly above your eyes. Your head, upper back, and butt should never leave the bench.
- While you're doing this, squeeze your butt and plant your feet into the ground. Your entire foot (heels included) should be on the ground, on either side of the bench.
- Your shins should be vertical to underneath you. If they are out in front of you, your feet are too far forward and you won't be able to generate proper drive.
- Keep your entire body tight. The raising of your chest to the bar, squeezing your shoulders together, squeezing your butt, and driving your heels into the ground will create a tight arch in your back. Imagine you are a superhero and pretend you are sucking all the energy out of the room and absorbing it.
- As the bar descends, absorb that energy and get ready to explode upward with the bar. Keep that arch in place throughout. You don't want to push your lower back into the bench to create a "flat back," or try to not create an arch. If you have heard people talking about not using an arch in the bench press, they are most likely referring to the extreme arch used by powerlifters.
Weak/sensitive lower back? All instructions stay the same, but your feet in this position...………(btw, his wrists are in the wrong position)
When you hold the bar, it should be in the heel of the palm Your wrists will not be extended, and your forearms are under your wrists, forming a solid line of support. If you hold the bar in the upper half of your hand or the fingertips, not only are you not in a strong position, but you could hurt your wrists
Easy way to remember…..middle knuckles to the sky…
A wider grip is more pec-focused, and a narrower grip is more tricep focused. However this grip, with your forearms vertical, is the most well-rounded and safest version for overall strength.
While pressing, remember to keep your elbows tucked in, and don't let them flare out. Think about squeezing so that your biceps touch the side of your chest (though you wont be close enough to have this happen), or try to get your elbows under the bar.
So there ya' have it. Might seem complicated, but most moves are at first. The bench press is like any other move, a matter of proper form and practice, don't let the complication turn you off trying...….it's so Paleo....
)))
Have a splendiferous workout folks!

Pebbles - I stared to type this yesterday but had to bolt out the door and came back to find my computer must have shut down as everything was gone. *sigh. Oh well, I didn't have much typed up anyway. I wanted to tell you about my trip to the hospital Tuesday for my first mammogram after being diagnosed. Since diagnoses I have had CT scans, MRIs and bone scans with no emotional problems, I honestly didn't feel they would find anything. Well let me tell you as soon as I walked through the doors to sit down to register it took everything I had not to cry! I had no idea where this emotion was coming from, but wow it was strong. I got through it and was told by the tech if I didn't hear anything by the end of Wednesday I was good to go, if I heard something it meant the radiologist wanted more scans done. Well I am happy to say I did not receive a phone call!
Egads - I don't know if there will ever be a time where females are 100% equals to all men. Some men (DT for example) are just idiots and have not evolved with the times.
ksuze - that is an amazing accomplishment! I am walking 1.8 - 2.3 miles now, got in 7 since your inspiration hit me and yesterday I nearly got blown away by the wind. Holy Moly that was a strong North wind!
Inna - I have done yoga twice now and thank you for reminding me to do so! I searched neck under the girl I was using before and came up with a bunch of videos - ya!!!
I am proud to say that my boys and I have been clean eating since January 7th! Today we are off to see Dierks Bentley and will be eating out, it's a treat meal for them! I am lucky to have them support me, now to get DH on board with this! hahahahaha not gonna happen in this lifetime!
Have a wonderful day all.

TUTORIAL THURSDAY – BMI…about as relevant as IBM!!!
Over the last few years BMI (body mass index) has been touted as the 'new black'. I've heard it yakked about in the gym, grocery stores, ladies room and the BCO threads. I wouldn't be surprised if Catholics hear it during confession……"forgive me father for I have sinned" "Yes my child, but what's your BMI?" I jest of course….you get my point.
Wanna try? It's easy enough to find your BMI status from tons of online calculators like this one:
https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm
Just type in two stats and bingo! Your BMI number pops up. Take that number over to a BMI chart like this to find what category your body falls under…...
Seems simple and conclusive enough eh? Nope. BMI numbers (like the scale) can give completely inaccurate results. Before your results break you out into a cold sweat or get too comfy, let's take a peek at a few visual examples…
The lovely ladies below are …
5'7', 150 LBS….AND BOTH HAVE A 23.5 - Upper Normal Range
Crazy the difference muscle mass can make. Obviously the gal on the left is leaner & more fit. The girl on the right, lovely as she is, carries much more body fat. The BMI method puts both ladies in the same health condition and category…..clearly demonstrating a major inaccuracy in the BMI method.Same but different….. BOTH 5'6, 200 LBS, WITH A BMI OF 32.3….THE OBESE Class IScope out the difference in fat distribution between the pics above. The gal on the right has a waistline that is 3-4 inches smaller, but has a larger thigh circumference. The leftie is carrying her weight through the abdomen. The abdomen is the danger zone for weight gain. While excess fat anywhere on the body isn't healthy, carrying that excess baggage in the abdominal area vastly increases health risks (heart disease, organ disease, cancer, diabetes etc..) Belly fat literally blankets the heart and organs….not good. I've read time after time that having 'junk in the trunk' won't necessarily hinder a gal's efforts to get healthy, and now we know why. (Might explain why the Khardashian's are filthy rich
)))…..and indicate that the woman on the right is better off. Here's a quick excerpt from Sciencedaily.com:"Even though many women hate having large hips and thighs, that pear shape actually reduces their risk of heart disease and diabetes. In fact, women who have heart attacks tend to have more belly fat than thigh fat."There is a different gene expression between abdominal fat and fat stores elsewhere on the body. More info is here (very interesting info & research): https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/01/130111092721.htm End of the day – Fat not great, abdominal fat really not great . I've written it before and I'll write it again now – BMI, like the scale, are simply part of a health assessment tool kit….but they don't get the job done! BMI is a somewhat decent indicator if you're an average person, mildly active, eating relatively clean.6'0 & 230 lbs with 15% body fat, totally ripped, brimming with muscles….the scale & BMI says 'OBESE'! I say 'WRONG'…..and also say that by the way the dude is posing, that he's actually 229.9 lbs with a highly irritating hemorrhoid taking him up to 230
)))
So what the heck? How do we get a more accurate gauge??Forget all the mathematical equations, fat calipers, paying a small fortune for a DEXA scan or a trip to UCLA to get dunked in water to determine your status……get one of these:
Cheap, cheerful and available everywhere….even the dollar store….then do this: WAIST TO HEIGHT RATIO It's a much more accurate indicator, that has not IMHO, been given enough attention until recent years. If your waistline measures more than half your height, you are at risk….pounds need to be dropped. 50% is the cut off point to the health risk danger zone:Make it even easier to calculate your percentage with this handy dandy calculator, complete with results chart: https://www.shapefit.com/calculators/waist-to-height-ratio-calculator.htmlTIPS:Trouble determining where to measure on the waist? Do this: Waist circumference needs to be measured at the location that is at the midpoint (i.e. half way) between the lowest rib and the top of the hip bone (called the "iliac crest"). It's important that the abdomen (belly) is completely relaxed when taking the measurement, not sucked in. Take a deep breath and let it out fully just as the measurement is taken. Don't cry like I did
)))ETA: measure first thing in the morning for a true number....after a trip to the bathroom and before even taking one sip of your java...normal water retention throughout the day can add inch(es)….ain't nobody got time for more inches
Want some stats? Take a look at just how steeply health risks and years of life lost climb with every percentage point:
By all means use your scale and check your BMI, but don't assume you're getting an accurate or clear picture.....or that you're better/worse off than you thought. Use them as an accessory tool....a guide per se. Waist to height ratio is probably the best (and cheapest!) measure of our body weight status. Having 'thunder thighs' or a 'Kimmy Booty' that knocks the number on your scale upwards apparently isn't the problem, and probably won't cause an early death….look to the abdomen and measuring tape for answers.I have further studies n' stuff, hit me up if you want more….and as usual…have a splendiferous day!
-
OMG Egads thank you for posting that! I'm going to measure my waist to height ratio tonight. I've lost 30 lbs and my BMI still puts me in the overweight category even though I think I don't look overweight, but it's part of why I feel I have to lose another 15 lbs!
Vamps - thank you for sharing that and my heart is with you re: the breakdown and crying. Totally understand it! I think we are so good at staying strong through tests and treatments and so one and then one day the emotions just catch up to us. I'm so glad to hear you got no call. What wonderful news that it seems you've got a clear mammogram! I am dreading the day I have to go back but it's not for awhile now so I'm going to enjoy this time of no more tests for now.
OK I'm lifting the veil, here's a recent pic of me and my husband (with our holiday tree that we still have up lol!) and yes my BMI puts me in the obese range. I know I was overweight but I don't feel it now and yet I still have to lose weight according to the BMI index! I have “tree trunks thighs" - always have even when I was super skinny in high school.
And for the cuteness, here are Domino (a girl remember!) and Tucker (a boy!) after a rainy day morning this AM:
PS - took my first dose of tamoxifen last night. Here we go! Wish me luck and no side effects.
-
Cute dogs photos! Egads, thanks for the BMI demystification post. Vamp, it's hard to know what will hit us wrong, AND congratulations on no callback!
In a couple of minutes, I'll break 200 kilometers since 1/1.
-
Pebbles (Flinstone) - Measure first thing in the morning (after the bathroom trip).....the body can literally gain 1" all round due to water retention throughout the day. An early morning measure is the truest measure. I have often wondered if my perceived need to lose 10 more lbs isn't necessary. Family and friends say 'don't lose any more!' I know for a fa!ct that I've replaced fat with muscle....so what you're experiencing may be the same. Let us know how it goes! My lord girly, you are gorgeous!! Certainly don't look obese AT ALL. Your hubs is a handsome devil too.....lucky you!! Thanks for sharing! Your tree is still up....lol....I was just saying to my Cavedude last night "that nutty guy down the street still has his tree up" You don't live in Halifax do you?
))))) Your tree is stunning, no wonder it's still up! Hey! I remembered Domino was female last time!!
)))) Maybe her name should be Domina? Joking! Your pooches are too cute!!
Tamoxifen...….keep shouting from the rooftops "those nasty SEs are NOT going to happen! Keep us posted, I have a feeling you're going to be just fine! I did the switch to an AI last week.....I'll be shouting that out with you!!
-
Ksuze - WOOT!!!!! take it home darlin!! You're doing us proud....so exciting!! Ok...where's my Nikes???
-
Pebbles, throw away the numbers. You are not obese! I am, though. I have 5 pesky pounds that are coming back immediately after I finish losing them. Oh, well. You are beautiful, girl! Your whole family is.
Vamp, glad you are doing yoga. Can’t believe I didn’t like it up until last year
Ksusan, I am pea-green with envy! Your walking record is unbeatable!
Egads, your posts are very informative and hilarious at the same time. Love them!
I am with you guys on crying and breaking down. As I fight the horrible LE in my right arm, I noticed that the clavicle on that side is not as visible as the one on the left side. I immediately panicked and requested an appointment with my MO. Thatside is definitely puffy, and all kinds of unwelcome thoughts are coming into my head. My PT said that it’s just swollen tissues from LE and radiation, but I keep thinking about my supraclavical node with horror. What if the cancer is back already? And yes, I cried. Will see the doctor next Friday. Hope for the best.
-
Inna (godda davida) - I have what I call a mini-fanny pack that rests right over my right rib cage....like a small puffy elliptical shaped gel pack. It showed up a week after my final rads and has been hanging out there since. It's confirmed truncal LE, mild. If I take a gym hiatus it deflates to barely negligible, but comes right back when I hit the gym again. It even grows a snake like tail around my ribs around to my back if I crush the upper body moves. When it grows this 'tail' it aches. I call it Moby....after the whale. Say hi Moby everyone!! *flashes ribs*
))))
Seriously though, I'm sure this is what you've got going on with your clavicle but am glad you're vigilantly getting it checked out. I completely understand the tears and terrifying thoughts that come....and those thoughts are almost impossible to shut off at these times. We're here to wipe those tears.....so vent all you like, the cave supplies free Kleenex and strong loving shoulders. Big Huge Hugs!!! Keep us posted please!!
-
Inna, do you have a professional to do manual lymphatic drainage for you, or have you been trained? I have an area on my back that gets puffy, but MLD brings it right down. That's more comfortable, and reassures me that it's a drainage issue, not cancer.
-
Pebbles, you're beautiful!
-
Egads, I'm Ukrainian. Tree is still up! Will oficially done with the season on Saturday, but things sometimes stay up until February or March if I get too busy! 😜
-
Hi all!!
hmmm, workout Wednesday huh? Well that didn't happen yesterday. 7 hours travel from Vancouver to home, missed the ferry by 1 minute, they closed the gate just as we were pulling up, wait another 3 hours because the RO was running 40 minutes late! So sat in the car, ate at the pub (uh oh) those pesky carbs in a beer! But I did eat a fabulous seared ahi tuna salad, so that cancels out the delicious craft beer? right???
I checked my waist to height measurement, 47.4, so not too bad, BMI 23.2. Somehow I managed to lose 4 lbs over Christmas, must have been the power outage. But I still want to get rid of another 7, I must try a bit harder to get rid of those carbs.
Inna, that lymphadema is a bugger to deal with. I had bilateral nodes removed & the first year I had a terrible time with swelling. I have managed to keep it under control with daily dry brushing. But it's hard keeping those techs & RN's from trying to do blood draws on either of my arms. I hope you can get it under control without a lot of problems.
Pi-Xi, lovely photos!
MO isn't convinced that fulvestrant is working for me after only 5 treatments. I would have to decide whether I would go on Xeloda or exemestane and everolimus. But my TM's have dropped 5 points in 4 weeks, I know, not a lot but dropped nonetheless.
sorry this is such a novel, I won't always post like this. cheers to all! dee
-
Thank you everyone! You are the best and sure know how to make a girl feel good / reassured. Tomorrow I will do the waist to height ratio thing and keep you posted. Still going to try to lose that 15 lbs that will get me to the right BMI, but not rushing it now.
The great thing I discovered with the weight gain and loss is that my husband truly does love me through "thick and thin" LOL. :-P
Egads - I'm not in Halifax LOL, but like Pi-Xi, I am keeping my tree up through Chinese New Year which is early Feb.!
InnaB - I finished radiation recently and had some swelling in my breast that the radiologist said was post-radiation and it's gone down since. I am confident you will be fine, but I certainly understand the anxiety and concern. Please keep us posted and we are here for you!
Day 2 on tamoxifen and I have a little bit of a hilarious thing right now that Egads may give thumbs up to that may or may not turn into a tradition. Last night after I took my first dose, I just started running about our place to keep moving, which turned into a full dance-a-thon to music, which turned into a 1/2 hour movement workout which was somewhat deliberate to (1) prevent blood clots and (2) because the research says a 1/2 hour a day of exercise for 5 days a week helps prevent recurrence. Then today I did the same thing! Who knows if this will turn into a thing, that I end up working out a little right after I take tamoxifen because I feel I have to move.
Egads - at the end of my workout, I wasn't quite on a rooftop as we have a condo so no rooftop, but I did shout, "You and I are going to be on this journey for 5 years tamoxifen, let's get along! No side effects, if you're making me not hungry that's good so I can lose more weight, let's do this thing!"
Domino with a picture of Domino on the forums...
-
Update - my waist to height ratio puts me as slightly overweight BUT I’m only 2” away from healthy normal weight so I will keep pushing! Oh and I corrected my note from before, my BMI also puts me as overweight range vs obese, although it was obese before I lost the 30 lbs. So at least I brought it down! However according to BMI I need to lose another 15 lbs to be in the normal range.
Well one day at a time and I’m not going to rush it!
Domino agrees.

Domino is such a cutie!
Dancing is a great strategy!
-
Thx ksusan! Walking is also a great strategy, so impressed by your Great Wall of China accomplishment!

'Afternoon Paleo Pals! It's a Not-So-Foodie-Friday!
I'm so annoyed. I had big plans for the Foodie Friday post today that were stifled by 'a series of unfortunate events' AKA 'Ingredients in Halifax are as elusive as a unicorn'. Bahhhhhhhh!! I started my hunt last night and by the time the clock struck 8, I felt like Matt Damon in the Bourne series.I made my way home with my tail between my legs *sigh*. Good news though…..my Cavedude, was kind enough to check out a health food store in Halifax proper…..and because he has horse shoes coming out of…..nevermind….he found what I needed….yay Cavedude!!!So the measuring spoons were flying all over the kitchen this afternoon and my little treasures are doing what they have to do. I'll be posting very soon….it will have to be a Foodie Saturday or Sunday.
On to business….
Inna (godda davida) – How are you feeling today? Sending you a big hug, hang in!
Pixi(dust) – Hiya girlfriend!! I guess I'll have to retract my 'crazy dude Christmas tree comment' seeing how both Pebbs and yourself are 'all season' gals
))) My MIL recently asked if we'd ever heard of 'Old Christmas'. Thinking it was a senior's holiday, and not wanting to say that out loud (she's 86) I just asked what it was. She wasn't completely sure, but knew that the tree and celebrations went through to Jan. 6th.If you count the number of days after the 25th to Jan. 6th it would total 12…..we assumed that is where the 12 days of Christmas originated.Maybe I can petition Santa to have it changed to the 12 weeks of Christmas so we can all leave our tree up
)) Btw…..your weight still on the upswing?
Dee (Gee) – I'm not sure if the Omega 3's in the Ahi will help cancel out the craft beer, but if we hoisted more than one, who cares!
))) The last craft beer I drank was a raspberry type. I'm not a beer person at all, but I could have drank a keg of that stuff! Losing weight over Christmas…. nice going! I have to admit I'm clueless when it comes to your meds. Have you been tolerating the fulvestrant well? Any concerns about the new possible meds? No worries about posting a novel here….I love long posts…..can ya' tell?
Pebbles (Flintstone) – You get a big TWO thumbs up for your dance-athon! I love cranking up the tunes while I cook….dancing & singing away….spatulas make great lip sync microphones! I wrote a post about dancing around the house when I was waiting for diagnostic mammo results…..it really does relieve stress and is great cardio. Just don't go near the window like I did, someone walking by took one look and must have thought I was going into convulsions
))))) I LOL'd at you shouting off the condo roof…I'll do the same tonight but I'll make sure the same dude isn't strolling by…..he'll probably make the call and I'll end up in the psych ward
)) Going down a level on the BMI chart is awesome….a big milestone for you. Your WTH vs BMI ratio tells us you've replaced fat with muscle. Keep your eye on the WTH and the BMI will follow naturally. As long as you're working it and WTH ratio is good, your BMI isn't an issue. High 5's lets do this thing…..crush that WTH & BMI!!!We need a pic of Domino giving us a high 5.
Ksuze – Did you kill the 200 mile mark as planned?? What is the number for the next leg of the trek? I might have asked before, and you might have answered, I don't remember…blame age….Is your lovely wife joining you on the treks? How's her health lately?
Okey Dokey, I'm bookin' it for now. Stay tuned for a Foodie Post ASAP…….hoping your day is TGIF Splendiferous!!
Roll Call:Vampriella….we need that Dierks post! JunieBee…hoping all is well and that you visit us soon….hugs of support! JKL….dying to hear how the training sessions are going! Sas….Hugs n' Luv if you're peeking in occasionally!

Yup, broke 200 kilometers so far this month. I'm aiming for around 750 to "walk the Camino Frances."
Today was an on-campus memorial service for a faculty member in my department, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in December at 32 years old. Only cinnamon rolls got me through doctoral exams I was administering in the afternoon.

Pi-Xi, I am from Lviv, Ukraine! Have you been born in Canada, or are you an immigrant like me?
Ksusan, I see a lymphedema therapist twice a week. The rest of the time I wear compression bandages for 22 hours (my long-suffering husband is now wrapping them very professionally), and during my 2 hours off I do stretches and manual lymphatic drainage massage my therapist taught me. It’s a pain in the neck, to say the least.
GG, what’s dry brushing?
Pebbles, way to go! I found Zumba party video with Beto Perez on Amazon Prime and dance to it every Sunday. Can’t wait to go back to my regular Zumba class

Oooh la la I think I will try the Zumba party video! And what a good husband you have InnaB.
Ksusan condolences to the memorial service. Here we all are trying to survive and we’re reminded how anything can happen at any time. More reason to just enjoy each day as it comes.
Egads what an awesome cavedude you have to go to the health store just for you.
And speaking of husbands, I will do the contribution to Foodie Friday this week! Here is my husband (aka cavedude and no his name is not BamBam) making me fresh homemade hummus. Ingredients posted below. Don’t get nervous about the calories as he made a huge amount, I also posted nutrient information per serving (one serving about 1/4 cup).
Domino high fiving - a little bit in action so not perfect but Domino and I are working on it!

Egads, my weight is about the same, which I guess is okay. It's not sinking rapidly at least! Perhaps just finding a new setpoint like you suggested. My doctor isn't concerned yet. You asked about my workout habits a long while ago. I got back into my exercise program after six days of taking it easy on my back over the holidays. I have done four days of yoga since it was finished. I was doing a high intensity Shaun T calendar. Workouts are fairly short at 25-50 minutes, but get that heart pumping and those others muscles working. I love it, but I only go that hard a few months out of the year. I try to vary what I do as it keeps my body happy! And most importantly my mind too!
Regarding Christmas, Ukrainians traditionally celebrated on January 7 and 7+12=19 which is Epiphany (baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River by John the Baptist). So still twelve days. We do celebrate both calendars and it makes for a wonderfully long season!

Hello All! This week I seen a new PT and he changed up my exercises a bit, apparently I was doing the "chin tucks" wrong, so he modified what I was doing and I how often. He also added in every other hour sit with perfect posture for 2 minutes, I have been working on my posture since November so this isn't anything new. When I first started the modified routine I found I was worse, but by Wednesday I was starting to notice a difference. Going to try sewing today, fingers crossed it goes well!
Pebbles - those are some lovely photo's you have posted. My BMI says the same as yours, but the waist says I have 5 inches to loose to get into the correct category. I have not been one to carry weight in my waist, I carry from my hips down, but lately my belly looks bloated despite being on a clean diet for almost 2 weeks straight now. I can only hope that continuing to eat clean will pay off in the long run. I have been walking as well and plan to add arm weight work outs soon, along with the yoga.
Pi-xi - glad to read your weight is holding steady and not dropping still. Are you still job searching? I tried a few mystery shops, got paid for all but one - apparently you are suppose to ask for the employees name, imo I think that right there would say hey I am a mystery shopper. lol. I would love to go to cooking school I think, but not for working purposes, for me to learn the correct way to chop without taking off my fingers. hahahaha I would totally be a nightmare for Gordon Ramsey! Yesterday while shaping the meatloaf I cut my finger on the tinfoil! Seriously! Who does that????!!!!
Ksuze - I am so sorry to hear of your colleagues passing. 200km already! Amazing! I will catch up to you when it's cycling season.
Egads - your husband should play the lottery if he doesn't! He really does have a horseshoe up his you know what! Ice cream was so bad it went to the garbage, lol. You know we are not dairy free so why didn't I make it with cream???? Do'h! We shall try again. Thank you for posting the waist to height ratio - I have 5 inches to go to be normal.
or maybe a huge poop! lolololol
Ok Dierks was of course awesome! The opening band Hot Country Knights were funny and entertaining, this guy in short short came on stage reminded me of my step dad, not because of the short shorts (lol), but because he was annoying everyone. Tenille Townes have to say not a fan of her live signing, she did "Different For Girls" with Dierks and it was horrible. Jon Pardy, was sooooo boring, the crowd didn't get into him until the last 3 songs he did. He needs to work on his entertaining part, lol, dances as bad as I do! DS1 was falling asleep through the Jon, he cried during intermission thinking it was over and we were leaving after Jon! Thankfully Dierks came out, stole the show and turned DS1 into a happy camper! No pictures yet, need to see if I can enhance them like the do in the movies as we were in the nosebleed section.
Off to do something. Have a great day all.
