hi so glad everything went well for you. Rest up!
-
me too I had a lumpectomy and 3 nodes removed on 12/18. I now have to go back in to get a tiny tiny piece for clear margins on dec 31. So I guess that's my Hapoy New Years!:
-
Welcome Maybe_Maeby!
Nicnnat3-I added you to the December roll call. It is a good start to the new year to be without that cancer!
Wigging-I'm sorry you are struggling with the future. Once you get a plan, it will get easier. It's tough, but do-able. Hopefully you have a good support system. Sending hugs!
The drain sites hurt and the tops of my boobs. Ugh. It's not horrible though. I shouldn't complain.
-
Hi, Ladies,
I'm late joining this group, but I'm right there with you. I had Bilateral mastectomies on 12-18. They only took one lymph node from each side, but my underarms are definitely where I have the most pain. There's an itch I can't seem to get rid of on the left that's driving me crazy, but I think I am doing relatively well. Appts on the second for fonal pathology, recommendations, and drain removal, (I hope).
I'm glad to hear we're all still marching. My prayers and gentle hugs to all of you.

Misha I had a numb top right lip from the breathing tube, so I would agree with Hpfull. Mine passed in a couple of days. I think mine actually had my lip pinched between the tube and my teeth.
-
mine was Dec 21. I dont know all the acronyms. But i had a leftmastectomy.
Hello all and best to everyone
-
I am going crazy with the lymph node pain. My whole arm burns and any fabric rubbing on it feels like I have a horrible rash. I went to target and looked for the softest shirt I could find. My favorite time of the day is when I can take off my bra and throw that soft shirt on. Waiting for bone scan and ct scan of abdomen and pelvis now
-
Hello, I'm new here as well.I have been watching boards for a while just trying to gather info and take all of this in. I had a UMX (left) on Dec 5 with reconstruction. Healing well...just got my last drain out this week. Yay I can drive now and a take a real shower! getting ready to start chemotherapy in a few weeks. MUGA scan on Monday. Hope everyone had a great holiday. Thank you so much for all your stories it makes me not feel so alone in this uncharted territory.
-
Welcome to our new friends...skygirl, Carliz, gndvll, nicnat...and anyone else new that I forgot. It’s a shame we have to meet this way, but we are a good supportive little group here.
It sounds like we are all recovering, getting drains out, and coping with the new normal we have found ourselves in. HPFULL I am sorry about your continuing pain! Have you checked in with the doctor about this?
Misha, thank you...I’m feeling a little happier today. I am definitely ready for a plan. I have so many things coming up in 2019 (my oldest is a senior in high school) and I’m feeling stuck in cancer land. I hope your pain continues to improve. And you can absolutely complain! You’ve earned it...we all have! 😊
Has anyone in our group who had BMX start driving yet? My PS told me that I could attempt it but I’ve been putting it off. I’m going back to work on the 2nd so need to try soon I guess!
Hugs to all-

Hi Wigging
I had my bmx November 23rd and start driving 3 weeks later. I also had a re excision and port insertion last Friday and got back driving today. It all depends on how you feel and if you are taking the prescription pain meds. Hope everyone is keeping positive and strong especially this time of year. 😊💖
-
Welcome and I added everyone to the roll call. Please let me know if I spelled anything wrong or gave you the wrong surgery or date! I’m still on the narcotics so I’m loopier than I usually am!
Gina-I know you from the chemo board! Glad to hear you are doing well!
HPFULL-Please do check with your doc! One of the other drugs they have me on is Gabapentin, which is for nerve pain. Maybe you need that??
Wigging-Glad you are feeling better, and I can relate as my oldest child is also a senior in high school!
Took a shower tonight and saw my new boobs! Now if I could just know my pathology report, I’m all set! Really pleased with how they are looking! BS told hubbie there was no attachment in the lymph nodes and that he thinks I had a total response to the chemo! Praying that he’s right!
-
Misha13, glad to hear your surgery went well and you are recovering well too. When do you get you pathology results? Our dx are quite similar and I was just wondering why you had chemo before surgery.
-
It’s interesting to see how different everyone’s experiences are and what their surgeons recommend. I had my drain out yesterday (day 7 post UMX) and tried driving later in the afternoon. I was also allowed to take a full shower two days after the surgery. I was surprised to learn I don’t get any fills on my TE for three weeks though—guess that’s where the PS is conservative? I thought a lot of people got something in there right away? I feel like all I’ve repeated is “Really??” after everything he and his staff have told me based on all I read beforehand—must annoy them, lol! Anyway, continued good healing vibes to all of you!
-
I expected to have my drains for 4 weeks based on what my surgeon told me. She said because I had a goldilocks procedure (because I liked the scars better) they would likely need to be in 4 weeks. Perhaps she was prepping me for worst case scenario. So I was surprised that I got them removed on day 12. I also had my plastic wrap removed that day. Then had my first real shower on day 14.
I can drive as long as I am not taking any pain meds, but haven't needed to yet.
I think the showering may have to do with wanting to minimize infection rates as much as possible.
I still have extreme pain on the side where the sentinel nodes were removed, but only when the bra is off. Like I would score it an 8 out of 10. I sure hope that gets better soon.
There was nothing other than DCIS found on my report so no further treatment! Having lost 6 family members to this disease my family was so relieved. I will definitely be thinking of all of you as you face the road ahead.
-
SDWoman-Great news!! No further treatment is awesome!!
Marriet-I had two tumors that looked like one big tumor on US, plus I had one node at dx that was already overgrown with cancer. I think that is the reason I had chemo first.
SOOOO, this horrible pain near the lymph node site is normal??? When I turn the wrong way, it’s like someone’s stabbing me in the side.
I’m also experimenting by NOT taking the OxyContin and taking the 600mg Ibuprofen and the gabapentin only. So far, there’s not enough difference to justify taking the Oxy.
-
SDWoman I’m so happy for you to get the good report! Let the healing and putting this behind you officially begin!
As far as the sentinel side pain, for you and Misha...I had very bad pain on my SNB side that was associated with a drain. It hurt with certain movements and whenever the drain was emptied. It hurt BAD. I called the resident on call and he says as long as the pain wasn’t constant that it was nothing to worry about. That drain was taken out at one week post op and then the stabbing painresolved. I do have some pain on that side if I make the mistake of trying to lean or lie on that side, but it’s not terrible. Hope both of yours eases up.
Thanks to all for the comments re: driving. I’m very nervous to do it, don’t want to overstretch anything or mess anything up. I see my PS on Thursday for my one month follow up (wow!) and hoping he will lift some of my activity restrictions related to my arms then.
-
that is great news SDwoman. You must feel a weight lifted off you.
I am having pain where they took the nipple as well. It looks like they left like an 1/16th of it? I can’t tell and when I saw the design still had bandages on so didn’t know to ask. I went to the fabric store and got s super soft fabric to line my bra with so I am hoping that helps.
Have any of you had a bone scan yet? I had one yesterday and they told me that they needed to take an additional scan on my right side by my ribs. It made me nervous. Anyone have them scan an extra area? Oh the not knowing and waiting is so hard. So ready for a treatment plan
Hugs to you all

Well I received the word the other day that I had clear margins with my lumpectomy which is a good thing since I had reconstruction at the same time to avoid having a divot in the top part of my left chest. We also got the full pathology report on the 3 lymph nodes and they were officially all clear. So now it is time to heal from the reconstruction/reduction and prepare for radiation. I will say the SNB site is the most painful and often it feel like there is a golf ball in my arm pit. The other part that causes some pain is the top of my left breast, where they had to pull tissue around to reform my breast. When I bend down I can feel it pulling, I'm sure it is the internal stitches. The right side reduction is doing well, my nipples are definitely overly sensitive and they are both nice an firm.
I'm glad I made the decision to do the reconstruction and intraopertive radiation at the time of my surgery. Yes it is a little longer for the surgery and on the recovery end, but it was only one surgery and not two, I didn't have to live with a divot in my chest for 6-12 months and the intraoperative radiation should mean only 3 weeks of whole breast radiation and not 6.
-
that is good news all around my moms girl. That is so cool about the intraoperative radiation. Sounds like you have a great medical teqm

Hi party people! I just joined as well, and found this support group. I had a single mastectomy (left) on 12/18 and ended up with a bad hematoma which needed surgery on 12/19 and a blood transfusion (needed additional blood) on 12/20. I decided against reconstruction and am recovering. Finally, getting to use my left arm a bit more! I also had a few sentinel lymph nodes removed
Because of the hematoma, I still have really bad bruising around the left side of my back and even down to my groin area (I came home with extra bruised fluid sloshing around my abdomen which has now almost been absorbed). I'm hoping to get my pathology report on 1/2, but the surgeon said that it might not happen by then due to the holidays. Can't wait to get this darn drain out next Wednesday too! I can't believe how many of us had surgeries this month. It's nice to be able to talk to others that had their surgeries recently
-
DVDiva Oh my goodness you sure had a rough start. It sounds like you have an amazing attitude about it though! Welcome to our group!
Misha, yesterday was probably the first day I can say that my foobs felt a bit normal and are beginning to feel like they are a part of me. Up until then I swear they felt so foreign and like they could slide right off!
-
HPFULL -Regarding the rubbing of your skin under your armpit. I had similar issues and put cornstarch in the end of clean pantyhose (foot area) and tied it off. Then, I dusted my armpit and skin near my rib cage and under arm which reduced the friction between my arm and side. I don't know if that would help you.
Thanks for the nice welcome SDWoman!
-
Welcome, DVDiva! The hematoma experience sounds frightening! I hope you are on the road to recovery now. “Getting rid of the drain day” will be a happy one for sure for you! I was thankful for mine doing their jobs for me, but not sad to see them go in the biohazard bin!!!
Glad to hear your good news, mymomsgirl!
Hope everyone is continuing to improve a little each day. My main complaint is fatigue that I can’t seem to shake. I’m going back to work on Wednesday so I need to figure out how to stay awake for more than 4 hours at a time. 😱 I’m also trying to remain calm in anticipation of my oncology appointment on 1/15 when I find out chemo or no chemo. I know I can do it, thanks to Misha and others on this board who’ve assured me I can, but I really don’t want this on my plate if I can avoid it. I’m very glad that I’ve had a few weeks “off” from test results and such.
Happy new year, all!
-
welcome Diva. Wow what an ordeal for you. You gave an amazing optimism Thanks for the cornstarch tip! I will try this tomorrow😊 I started taking gabapentin which I think is helping?
Wigging I hope your fatigue lifts. I think this whole journey is physically and emotionally a lot so it does seem to have an energy pull. I find on the 9th about chemo and the bone scan results.
Here is to a bright 2019. Happy New Year December Warriors
-
Mymomsgirl-Yay for clear nodes!! That’s great news!
DVDiva-What an ordeal! Glad things are looking up for you!
Wigging and HPFULL-Hang in there! There is a path and light at the end of the tunnel...eventually. Sometimes it seems the tunnel is 60 miles long and you have to hop on one foot the whole time! However, all that hopping does get you to the finish line, one step(hop) at a time. Have patience and be easy on yourself.
-
Had my lumpectomy and sentinel node dissection today. I’m home, warm, comfy and the pain is under very good control. Surgeon said the mass was deeper than expected ( even though I had numerous ultrasounds and an MRI) and had invaded the underlying muscle. I’m not sure what the treatment typically is for this. If the node is clear as well as margins, it would be unlikely that I’d need chemo, right? Anyone been through something similar
-
Cleokeep-Yay! I’m glad you are done and now you are comfortable! Idk about chemo, but if it went to the chest wall, I would think that indicates you would need radiation. But, I am only guessing!!
Nicnnat-How’d it go??
-
Happy New Year ladies! Many blessings this year...
-
I’m so over this cancer thing. I’ve been sitting around, not feeling well, not working, since July. I mean there have been times when I felt okay and even like I could have been working, but overall, I’ve been “sick” for going on 6 months.
How long until you ladies who had a BMX felt better?? I am taking less ibuprofen, but I still need it for the uncomfortable pressure on my chest. I have my follow up with my PS tomorrow and I hope she removes at least some of these four drains.
I keep checking my patient portal for my pathology report and it keeps changing the date that it will be available!!! First it was the 2nd, then the 5th, now it says the 8th! Argh! I don’t want to call the BS and ask, but I may do it anyway!!
I’m feeling a bit depressed and tired the last two days. I just want my body and my life back. I know it will never again be the same, and I accept that and am thankful for so many blessings I do have. Thanks for letting me vent.
-
jumping in for cyber support for Misha, our warrior!
So many things to say...first, sorry you are having a sad day. I have had quite a few of these but they seem to be intermixed with good days too. Since I haven’t had chemo and may be doing that next, I can’t speak to the 6 months plus “sick” experience. I can tell you that 4 weeks post bmx/implant recon I feel almost normal. I still have the pressure feeling but only a random zap of pain every now and then. Saw PS today and I can begin reaching and doing normal daily activities. Still no lifting but that’s ok! I can do any exercise except weight bearing on arms. He says one more month for pushups and planking! I went and bought some new bras today and put all my old ones in a big sack for goodwill...unless anyone here needs 34B/C’s! That made me feel pretty good, like I’m turning a corner.
You will feel immediately better to some degree once you get the drains out...I promise! I swear they suck the life out of you along with the fluid!
Waiting on pathology is also stressful and for me I felt a giant weight lifted when it came back. Will you get the results in the portal or at an appointment? Update us on how PS goes tomorrow! You are not very far out from surgery and I think you’re doing great.
Life and body will never be the same...you are so right. But...you are not alone. I’m right here with you cheering for you and all of us! We are strong but it’s also ok to feel sad. We have been dealt this nonsense and expected to deal with it while going about life as usual. It’s not easy! It’s not fair! But...we have got this Misha, and ladies!!!
