Paleo Pals - Health, Weight Loss & Support

Egads, I'm back to comment on your Two Cent Tuesday post. Your question was perfectly timed because I had just had a long conversation with the woman who does my regular MLD massages about that very subject. She & I agree 100% with both you & Pebbles - it's a sweet (but dated) song that isn't remotely offensive. If you want offensive music, listen to some of today's rap & pop. As you pointed out, it would be much more appropriate to be attacking those! Frankly, if this is the worst thing you can imagine, you need to open your eyes & look around; there are a lot more offensive things happening in the world today than the lyrics to Baby, It's Cold Outside!
Now I will climb down from my soapbox. As for your hip thrusts I gotta say I like the idea of making the Kardashians cry so maybe I'll try them. I swear though, if you keep adding exercises to my already lengthy routine, I'm not going to have enough time left to do all the cooking that paleo requires. And that leads me to my next story...
I decided to make Nom Nom Paleo chicken nuggets last night (sounds easy enough, right?). The nuggets were browning beautifully when my smoke alarm went off, waking my husband from a sound sleep (retirement = regular naps) & causing him to come running into the kitchen yelling “where's the fire?". I calmed him down & waved a towel at the smoke detector until it stopped. Problem solved (for about 3 minutes) until the alarm sounded again. Eventually DH stood on a chair, pointing a small fan at the smoke detector while I finished cooking. From the look on his face, I don't think he was enjoying himself. Tasty chicken but probably not a recipe I will use again!
And for you ladies with sore feet - I previously recommended Oofoes recovery shoes for plantar fasciitis & they are equally great at relieving sore feet. I live in mine while I'm inside & they are wonderful. (You can find them on Amazon.)
Egads, we didn't use paleo gingerbread but I did make a gingerbread house with DGD11 & a gingerbread woman with DGD5. They did most of the work & we had a lot of fun!

Thanks, Pebbles and JKL! Egads, that is a good suggestion; however, I don’t think I could possibly add anymore nuts to diet. Almond butter in the morning, walnuts on my lunchtime salad, almonds for an afternoon snack (many days), almonds and a couple Brazil nuts every evening. I’m scared I’m eating too many!
Congratulations on finishing rads, Pebbles! And so adorable with you and DH singing the duet. I enjoy Baby, It’s Cold Outside and one just shouldn’t rewrite history. I too think it was intended as a romantic little ditty, especially in light of the role reversal. The woman was by far more aggressive in the movie! -
Wow, I missed a day somehow! Egads lol at your comment of pictures of you at the gym and those images made me lol, who the heck would purposely want a camel toe? It's not a new fashion statement is it? Oh dear God send me back to the 40's and 50's, I think I would be more comfortable there! As for Baby It's Cold Outside, I quite enjoy listening to that song and agree with you and Pebbles #MeToo has good #TooFar! I wonder if the CRTC got enough letters they would change, I am thinking not likely, maybe it's the #MeToo movement that needs to hear from us? I am disappointed that it has really gone this far.
As for workout Wednesday, Can I do those on the floor with my "issues"?
I had an epiphany this am, as for my ignorant niece I should have politely asked her to turn down her volume on her cell phone. I really need to stop letting my bil and his common law get to me. I honestly shouldn't give to cents about them or how they treat people (me), it's who they are to be ignorant a-holes and that won't change.
Pebbles, how did your first day not having to drive to RADS go?
JKL - your granddaughters are adorable, love the gingerbread woman! I got to know what the heck caused all the smoke from the chicken nuggets? I bet your DH wore the same look my gives me when I am too noisy in the kitchen before it's time for his alarm to go off. I haven't even started Christmas baking and likely won't bother this year, they got buttertarts out of me a couple weeks ago.
Last night I made Tomato-Basil Soup with Shrimp, I thought it was quite good, DH didn't like it as much as my original Tomato-Basil Soup recipe. Here is the recipe: https://drhyman.com/blog/2016/07/13/tomato-basil-s... I will upload a picture soon. It was a perfect soup for a cold day.

Greetings Peepers!!
If I had contacts with the underworld I would have had a hit put out on Chef Jamie Oliver yesterday. I made his highly recommended Celeriac (celery root) & Apple Soup. I'm a HUGE fan of celeriac (the ugly veg) and the recipe looked perfect as a starter…..MIL is over for din-din tonight. Soup completed and I was less than happy….it was blandish, boring and not a cheap dish. Harrrumphhh. I googled reviews on the recipe and came up empty….until a pic caught my attention. I quickly clicked back to the original recipe and saw that I had completely left out the ½ cup of crème fraise. Arrrrgggggg!!
I put the soup back on simmer for a few and whisked up ½ cup of sour cream with 2 tbsp of full fat cream and a tsp of maple syrup (crème fraise substitute), stirred it in and……perfection...well, at least really good. All the diff in the world! Will top with a lil' more sour cream mix and crumbled crispy bacon, sprinkle of sweet paprika….pic will be posted. Easy peasy too!
On to business…………
JKL – your DGDs……JKL, they are stunning!! What beautiful girls! (I'd kill for their thick hair, my niece has the same type as your youngest GD, except she's brunette) …..and to top it off they look like really nice kids (artsy too!) You must have had a blast! Thank you for sharing the pics, loved them! I LOL'd at your 'privacy in my own home' comment….and understand completely. I held off doing hip thrusts in the gym for the very same reason…..until I noticed a lot of other peeps doing hip thrusts without batting an eyelash….and mostly women. I have to admit the first time I did this I pulled a bench into a corner for privacy, but to no avail….there are mirrors everywhere
))))) I use the 'man zone' weight area of the gym (lil' intimidating at first) and can honestly say the guys are nothing but polite helpful gentlemen and I've never seen any of them staring at anyone but themselves in the mirrors
)))) As for long workouts…..keep it a mix. The body is an amazing machine and muscles have memories. Ifyou don't mix it up your muscles find ways around the exertion and you get less out of the workout. Incorporate the new moves to create varied workout days, let your muscles forget what they learned by repeating them every two to three workouts…or one week on one week off etc.. Also relives the boredom of doing the same thing all the time. S & Qs & planks are static. Keep your lifting time to 40-50 mins max (that includes rest time) I'll be posting on this further in an upcoming Workout Wednesday. So you did the dish cloth dance, yup, a regular event with some of Michelle Tam's chicken recipes (she uses high temps, best way IMHO)….and they are my go-to's. I only wish my exhaust fan was better (big time kitchen reno needed here) because of this problem. My Cavedude knows the drill…..chicken in, smoke alarms disconnected, close doors to bedrooms, open windows.We've got it down to a fine art
))) I adore Michelle's cookbooks (have 3 of them), taught me a lot, but has kept the Halifax Fire Dept on alert for a few years now
))) P.S. fear not, not all Nom Nom's smoke that bad.
ETA: I'll be checking out your shoe recommendation. I've been doing a LOT of cooking lately, which as you know involves standing on one spot for hours…..hard on the feet!! What style do you recommend? Clog or sandal type? I'm thinking my cooking feet need these! Gotta love the name, Oofoes…..sounds like a Muppet character or a close relative of mofo
))
Pixi (dust) – Questions for you….do you like avocado? Do you do dairy? Hugs for you too!
Vampriella – I'll say it again…..love love love your soup…..looks so purdy!!! I just checked out the recipe…..easy peasy yay!!!! As I texted last night, get the tractor out and go Cavedude hunting
)))) Yes Virginia, we like your epiphany!! Def speak up (diplomatically) you had a right to sit at that table and enjoy the meal without YouTube blasting in the back ground…exactly! Oh, and if diplomatic doesn't work…..make sure the tractor has a full tank
) Hip Thrusts……*sound of buzzer* I'm sorry Vamp but I can't recommend it for you right now because of your neck issues…..check out the head position in those vids, chancy for you…..It's also too easy in the beginning to get out of form….you don't want to borrow trouble. Get yourself through PT etc and we'll review again….actually make sure to talk to them about no-no exercise. You'll be doing them soon enough, but now is not the time. In your shoes I'd stick to low slow cardio for the time being…..there is too much going on…not worth the risk. Hugs…..I love your determination…hang in!!
Ok So I'm putting the kibosh on Tutorial Thursday
…..dinner prep for MIL, paperwork, housework and a full laundry basket owns me today.....Christmas really throws a wrench into things doesn't it? Good thing there are presents or women worldwide would be marching with torches n' pitchforks
)))))
Anyone up to the challenge? Tutorialize away peeps
)))

Vamp & Egads, thanks for the DGD compliments. I know I'm prejudiced, but I think they're pretty special & I love to show them off! (I'm new to posting pics here since it's much easier to do on my IPad than it was on my old computer.) DGD5 had crazy hair that day, half in a ponytail, half out. She would NOT let me fix it since she hates to have her curls brushed!
Re the Oofoes (I like the name too.) I have both the slides & the clogs (not a fan of most flip/flops so haven't bought those). I prefer the slides but I often wear the clogs in the winter (warmer toes!). You'll want to replace them when they stop feeling as supportive; that's when I put them in my gym bag as shower shoes. Hope they help!
Vamp, as to the Nom Nom smoke episode - my main level smoke detector is in the perfect place to receive every wisp of smoke from the kitchen. Additionally it's hard-wired into the house electrical system so it's very difficult to disconnect. I was cooking more chicken than would fit in the pan so my ghee got a bit dirty (although it didn't affect the taste at all). Oh, well, as we say at my house "the frying's not done until the smoke detector goes off". Your soup looks amazing - I'm going to have DH try making it (he's my Soup Nazi).
And your soup sounds tasty, too, Egads. Maybe we need to add a soup section to our Paleo recipes? And keep those substitution tips coming - they are soooo useful! Also, thanks for the workout advice. I like my gym's machines so much that I don't vary my lifting as much as I should. But I understand the need for it & you're giving me so many additional exercise ideas that I will try to add more variation. Do you ever use bands? My physical therapists have given me some moves with bands that I really like (& the bands are easy to stick in my luggage when I travel).
Off to the gym now to try some of your suggestions.
-
Egads, I don’t avoid avocado. I wish I could stop dairy, but I do eat plain Greek yogurt and dry curd almost everyday for protein.
-
jkl2017 - excellent soap box, I think you can stay there. And I love that you did gingerbread houses! Can you post a recipe for the non nom paleo chicken nuggets? That's something I've been depriving myself of and now sound most delicious, if there's a healthy, paleo friendly version, I would love to know!
pi-xi - I think all those nuts are healthy, so I think you're fine eating them! They say tamoxifen causes weight loss for some so maybe you are just getting that effect? Honestly if it's going to cause weight gain for me, let's trade.
vampeyes - thank you for posting that tomato basil soup with shrimp! I already made a note to myself to try the recipe. It looks AMAZING. And full of cancer fighting goodness which is awesome!
egads - the hip thrust is part of my regular abs workout! Except that video just made it more complicated. :-O And THANK YOU for sending me all the meaty-goodness information!! I still have to digest it all (no pun intended LOL) but I'm still on the paleo-train, and it helps a to have all that insight. Plus I'm still trying to lose weight so super interesting that you tried everything including going vegan and it was paleo that worked for you!
ksusan - Manuscript? Wow! Sounds impressive.
My update - I heard I still need to be vigilant the 2 weeks post radiation treatment so I'm still applying the lotions etc. The week is going by fast, probably because I'm back in the office full force on Monday 12-17 and just enjoying these last couple days of working from home. Although I will prob be much more productive when I'm back in the office, as judged by my posting to this thread right now during work hours LOL. And the hallmark channel movies in the background. :-P
Tomorrow I see the oncologist to talk about tamoxifen (and post-treatment follow ups I guess?). What should I expect on the schedule now that I'm done with "active" treatment? I'm a bit nervous about the meeting actually... I don't know, we'll see how it goes. Honestly I want this behind me, I don't want there to be a million more scans and follow ups, so I'm more nervous that they are going to want to be extra vigilant with me. Now that I've been through the surgery, radiation, CT and bone scans, blood tests, genetic tests and so on, I really just want them to leave me alone for a year, let me do my thing and really tap into the diet/nutrition and exercise to get as healthy as I can possibly be, and come back in a year for a check-up. I think they are going to want sooner check-ups and more scans though and I don't know how I feel about that... I don't even know if I want to take tamoxifen due to the side effects but I think I will probably give it a go and hope I can skate through as cleanly as I did on the radiation treatment.
Here is Domino, much deserving of a good rest after coming with me to treatment every day!

hello all i am backing away from the community for awhile but finally discovered that i can only post pics from my computer which i use maybe once a month due to..um.. noises..
i know a couple people asked me to post a pic of my purple popcorn stitch scarf and i have on another thread i think it was also people on this one so i'm posting it here too so they can see it. its actually purple metallic thread not silver that is shining on the pic.
Take care all. i may pop in for food advice in the new years.blessed be.
ETA: Got back to working out. light and very low impact but exercising again about 3 times this week. which is one of the things i will be doing building back up my strength to pre-surgery levels. lifestylediet changes start jan 2.

pebblesV
your pup is adorable. congrats on your completion of rads and good luck on your tamoxifen journey.
-
Hi Jadedjo - thank you and waving hi! Looking forward to having you come back to this Paleo community. Sending hugs and healing and good luck on your non-tamoxifen journey!

GOOD IDEA / BAD IDEA?
Turmeric Bombs. I seen this recipe on Pinterest and thought I would check it out, so many good things about about Turmeric that benefit the body - inflammation being one of them - bonus for me and my arthritic spine! Soooo I opened up the link and what I found was that it really doesn't sound all that appetizing, so I decided to share with you all to see what your thoughts are on this. Good idea or bad idea? Any takers (Egads) on trying this recipe out and giving us your reviews?
http://empoweredsustenance.com/turmeric-supplement...

Pebbles, I searched for a link to the nugget recipe & couldn't find one (it's been archived &, if it's accessible, it's beyond my limited computer skills.) Since I was using the Nom Nom Paleo cookbook, I've photographed it for you. (Yes, I'm that lazy!) It was quite tasty & easy! And it would probably fry without triggering the smoke alarm if you could fit all of your nuggets in the pan at the same time. If you can't read this (don't know what device you're using) let me know & I'll type it out for you
-
Thank you JK.L2017, you're the best! I might have to give that a try for the holidays

I thought I would let you all know that on Netflix there is a show called Paleo Way that I discovered. I watched two last night before I was too sleepy to go on. The first one featured a woman with ulcerative colitis and Terry Wahls who is making a great comeback from Multiple Sclerosis.
Something funny happened to me. I was looking at the palms of my hands and they are turning orange. It scared me for a minute but I was just checked head to toe in the hospital so I googled it and it is from eating a lot of carotenoids. I have been eating tons of carrots and frozen mango blended with orange juice because that was the only fruit and veggies I had in the house for a couple of weeks. Yesteday I went to the store and stocked up on other colored fruits and veggies. I eat a lot of roasted veggies, but usually its a mix of broccoli, cauliflower, red bell peppers, onion, and mushrooms, but I had been roasting three carrots every day, plus drinking the OJ and mango.
Tapioca powder for the chicken nuggets. I hadnt thought of that. Thanks for sharings the recipe! JKL. I have been wanting to attempt a cucumber wasabi sauce with chicken fingers like Meatheads serves. I am inspired now.
-
TwoHobbies - thanks for the info! I will look it up on Netflix. I was reading Chris Beat Cancer and Chris Wark, who beat a stage 3 cancer in his 20s and 17 years later is healthy and cancer free, talked about turning orange drinking tons of carrot juice! So I think that’s just a sign of you being super healthy. Chris’s approach was to overdose on nutrition which is a bit too much for me as he ate the same salad every day for months (I need more variety than that!) but I’m definitely eating more carrots and garlic and turmeric and fruit and all the good things to fight breast cancer.
I found this really useful site here: https://foodforbreastcancer.com/amp/food-list.php
Vampeyes - on turmeric bombs all I can say is I bet it’s healthy and probably tastes terrible lol. I’ve noticed that most cancer fighting recipes I find online taste awful, so I have to adjust them to get more flavor in. The first time I tried the gluten free dairy free pumpkin pie I followed the recipe to the tee and it was not good. Then I adjusted and took out the butternut squash to make it all pumpkin and added berries and honey and dark chocolate (all cancer fighting according to foodforbreastcancer.com) and it was delicious

Vegas Confessional Monday again Cave Chicks!!
My weekend was a blur. It started Friday morning by waking with a serious case of lagging energy. I don't know if the past few weeks of activity or tamoxifen withdrawl is the cause….maybe both……but I had to take the day for myself…..naps rock!! I guess you could say my trip to vegas took the form of couch surfing. The rest of the weekend was spent on a wild goose chase….literally! As I posted earlier, my Christmas dinner includes roast goose…..none to be found anywhere. I hit every store and butcher shop in town for the past 2 weeks…nada. Last night I sent my Cavedude out to pick up eggs and cream and he comes wandering home with not one, but TWO geese (frozen, not waddling behind him). Mr. Smartypants made 'if you want the job done right send in a Cavedude' comments all evening. I told him that honking his own horn gets old fast
)))) Bad pun sorry
If he keeps up the gloating after all the work I put into the goose chase and...…..
))))))
So on to business……
JKL – DGD5 has rocking hair and don't blame her one scintilla for refusing the brush…..her locks put me in mind of fairy tale princesses…..gorgeous! Soup section added (great idea!) and started off with Vamp's recipe. I'm not going to post the Celeriac & Apple Soup until I play with it more…..good as is, but it needs something to knock it up a notch (perhaps a touch of curry powder or smoked paprika…not sure yet) If you're interested 'as is' the link is here: https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetables-rec... Would be good 'as is' if the rest of the meal is spicy…..use as a mild starter kinda' thing. Bands….yes I used them when I first started training, and they are EXCELLENT if anyone has problems with squats, as well as part of a regular workout. Tied about 2 inches above the knees help to balance and support proper form until your core is strong enough to go without the bands…..like so…...
and...….
My first set of squats were so pitiful my trainer said "Egads, THAT is the worst squat I've ever seen in my life!!!" If he hadn't have been such a sweetheart I would have whipped him with the bands
))) Bands are great for upper body resistance/strength training when big weight is a no-no (post treatment especially)….or as an ongoing tool. JKL You've inspired a Workout Wednesday Resistance Bands post thank you! Stay tuned!
Pixi (dust) – Avocado is a great way to pack in extra calories….put them in every salad, think guacamole as a snack, cream of avocado soup etc……and if you're interested I have a seriously TO DIE FOR chocolate pudding recipe you can make with them (not even a HINT of avocado taste….just decadent goodness…and calories!) In your shoes I'd also up my overall healthy fat intake for a few weeks to see if it makes the difference……coconut fat bombs are a great delish way. Keep us posted on your progress please!
Pebbles (Flinstone) – I'll be responding to your PM soon (you are so sweet!!:)…..Christmas is killer!! Oh yeah, vegan saw my waist line expand….most likely because of the high carbs. I went back over myfitnesspal shortly after going paleo only to find my daily counts ran in the neighborhood of 150 to 200 carbs/day….YIKES!! My daily calorie count (I HATE counting calories!) was 900-1100, so I should have been losing big time…nope. My tummy also didn't appreciate the wheat/legume driven regime either. I'd love to have a convo with your lil Domino about how to sleep so soundly off the edge of a chair LOL!! My lord he's cute…and so soft and fuzzy!!!| How did your MO appointment go? Have you started the tamox yet? Don't fear it, you can change your mind later, go for it open minded, and remember some of the SEs wear off in time…..it is very effective at decreasing reoccurance rates, that is how you can gauge the 'benefits outweigh the risk'. Crossing fingers your SEs are minimal…..keep us posted! So the good times are over…..no more Hallmark at 2 pm….:((((((((Isn't it annoying how work gets in the way of our online time???
)))))
Jade – LOVELY scarf…..love it and I'm very jealous of your skill……the one time I tried knitting was a disaster! I ended up with more holes than scarf!! It is a relaxing hobby though…..and with results like yours, very satisfying too…..hope you're rocking your scarf look! Yay you @ exercise, you've come a very long way from surgery, in record time. Easy does it…..don't want to overdo strength training….snail's pace is best. I hope you get a good rest over the holidays….and from the boards. I see that your thread is a bit contentious right now….your decision to pull back is a good one, you'll be able to get your thoughts straight. We'll reserve a seat for you here as always darlin', try your best to keep your chin up!
Vampriella – Tumeric bombs….actually not a bad idea at all….taken like a vitamin though. As the recipe is written I think it's BAD BAD BAD!! I HATED the inclusion of the Quercetin…..the website claims it's harmless….medical reports advise they are 'unsure of long term use and shouldn't be a regular event'. Just another lesson in researching ingredients…from a number of TRUSTED sources! I bet they could be made to taste good....and made better with fresh turmeric root…chocolate….honey….coconut flakes….ok now I'm talking cookies
))))))) How did you and your Cavedude do on the stocking stuffer shopping trip? Lose any limbs??
TwoH – LOL you beat me to the punch…..I saw the Netflix Paleo Way a couple of days ago and plan on watching when life settles down THANK YOU for posting……everyone should watch if they have the time! I have to also repeat to y'all that I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis shortly after completing treatment.It is GONE since I went Paleo/Primal (four years no bleeding, clear scopes) Mine was 'Pan-UC'….meaning my WHOLE COLON was involved….scary stuff. My last colonoscopy was so good my GI doc said 'keep on doing whatever you are doing', and basically cut me loose from his care over to my PCP.Thank you again for posting about the vid……you always post such great vid recommendations! I think we need to be putting you in charge of AV in the Cave Community
)) Oh and the orange palm things….that happened to me with carrots a few years ago…..the bottom of my feet went orange too….I could have been the poster child for Sunkist
)))) You have just confirmed that 'you are what you eat' ))) How have you been feeling lately……all recovered?
Everyone – Tapioca Flour and Arrowroot flours are great for adding 'crispy' into your baking (fish, chicken)…..fantastic wheat flour dredging replacement. Best paleo onion rings or fish & chips, bar none, are made with tapioca flour batter…..we make them twice a year…..and cry tears of happiness they are so good!
Keep in mind though, both are starches (carby) and hike up your insulin response, so it should NOT be an everyday event if you have weight or blood sugar issues.
Yeah, yeah I know….BOO Egads!! Always sucking the joy out of everything!!
))))) Btw.....8 shopping days left....more joy sucking for ya'
))
As always Peeps, have a splendiferous day!!
-
Egads - I would love if you shared your avocado recipe. Always like trying different ones.
As for Vegas, well let's not go there. I don't want to stress over it right now. My goal is top get through the holiday's and aim to change my household when things slow down and I have more time. I still aim for eating healthy, but sometimes I am just too darn tired to cook. Hate this season, cold, dark and depressing!
I look forward to tomorrow when I see the physio therapist and can get a workout routine! Squats, lunges and walking is all I do. 🙄
As for stocking stuffers we are done. Surprisingly the mall was super quiet Saturday night!
DS2 decided he didn't want a pet that was a lot of work so we x'd the rat idea, then he changes his mind again. 🙄🤨 I wasn't going to bother with it as he is likely to change his mind again, but the cage is on for a good deal. Maybe I will pick it up, can always return it if we don't need it.
This is my last week of work. Looking forward to it after having to text my phone client again for money. Seems to be becoming a bad habit of hers, very frustrating. I suppose I am, " JUST THE CLEANING LADY", I hate feeling that way and chasing for money sure makes you feel like a big fat non important looser! I am thinking if we get the rat I should get a job at a pet store for the discounts! 😁 I should anyway I do have a dog and cat!
-
Thanks for the suggestions, Egads! I’m going to be a frequent flyer to Vegas over the next three weeks, so I’ll see how I do with the Christmas feasting.
-
Hi all! OK it's still Monday here and I have a Vegas confessional! I enjoyed fried chicken at my sister's holiday party. Now all I want to do is eat friend chicken! 🤪 It was dee-licious.
I was really good today at our dessert potluck at work though! Knowing I couldn't partake in the sugar rush, I made my gluten free dairy free pumpkin pie and enjoyed that! This time I made it like little cupcakes.
Recipe is full of cancer fighting goodness.
Crust: Almond flour, coconut oil, honey, chopped almonds and walnuts.
Filling: Pumpkin purée, maple syrup, dark chocolate, crushed almonds, turmeric powder, ginger powder, cinnamon, nutmeg.
Mix, lay in pan, bake a half hour at 300-350 degrees. Garnish with berries!
Egads - tamoxifen withdrawal? You mean you have withdrawal symptoms from tamoxifen so maybe there was something good about being on tamoxifen? I'm going to start it soon, still so wary about it.
My MO appointment went well! I was so nervous before and so relieved after. We have a plan and he's very flexible letting me do what's right for me while also reassuring me or answering questions on my concerns. And he said that plan can be fluid depending on his things go which is great.
So... I'm going to start tamoxifen in about a month as my husband and I want to try one more IVF cycle to get eggs/embryos (did I mention that? We just want the option). Then I'm going to ease into it at 10 mg to start with and work my way up to the 20 mg dose in a month. Someone else with minimal side effects did this so when I mentioned it to my onc he was fine with it. Trying to lose more weight before I start!
Vampeyes - your last week of work is my first week back to work full time! Since I finished radiation treatment last week I'm back in the office now. I envy your free time to do whatever you want to do, my sister is not working right now and the day still flies by! I think this will be a great chapter of life for you to enjoy your passions.
All - fun update to share. went back to the office today after working from home for 6 weeks during radiation treatment and was greeted with a welcome back banner AND everyone in the office wearing pink shirts to support me! What's so cute is that it's 90% guys in my office and they all wore shirts with some pink on it today. I was so touched! So getting back to work was not bad at all today.
I practically cried again but this one was happy tears (I've had many tears along the way of this whole thing).
The only one who seems not so pleased about me no longer working from home is little miss Domino. While she's cuddling up to me right now all happy, this is her look from this morning when I was back to the routine of getting ready for work (dogs know, don't they?)
-
Awe Pebbles that was so sweet and thoughtful of your co-workers to do that for you. I would have cried happy tears too! Poor Domino does not look impressed!
Met my new physical therapist yesterday, no exercising for me except walking. He has me working on my posture and chin tucks every hour. A little bummed that I am not to do even squats or lunges, ok maybe not so much on the lunges part.
Christmas is fast approaching, is everyone ready? I am not. We have a party at our place this Saturday, presents to wrap still and because my grandpa's gift was delivered to the wrong address and the jerks signed and kept it I will not be receiving it. So now I need to figure out what to get him other than scratch tickets and a puzzle. Any ideas?
-
Good Morning Paleo Peeps!!
Well, I've certainly been MIA lately…..blame the season. The crunch is on for most of us and it makes me ponder why we see so many 'Joy' signs all ova' da' place…..overheated malls, horrific traffic jams, long line ups, expanding credit card charges….*sigh*….not so happy-happy-joy-joy! What does give me joy is the light I'm seeing at the end of the tunnel. I failed miserably at my 'get shopping done and wrapped by Dec. 1st' although I must confess that I have to blame my procrastination. No worries, I'm pretty much done besides a few odds n' sods to pick up…..oh and wrapping, which happens today. Funny thing about present wrapping….I start out with wrapping like this…..
and by the last gift, it looks something like this…..
How's that for 'tis the season to be jolly"?
))))
For those anal retentive present wrappers out there I found a site that has instructions on wrapping anything from boxes to tennis rackets…. https://www.popsci.com/wrap-weirdly-shaped-gifts#page-6
WARNING…..if you watch the tennis racket vid, and you're anything like me, you'll be yelling "give me a break' obscenities at the screen
))))
I'm hoping y'all are comfy in the home stretch. I'll be back to post soon, but most likely with sketchy attendance. Our usual weekday posts will have to be put on hold until next week….I unfortunately don't have the wherewithal to research right now. Promise to be back with a vengeance though!!
)
So, on to business……
Vampriella – You asked, I answer….here is the link to the Avocado Chocolate Mousse:
https://www.everydayeasyeats.com/chocolate-avocado-pudding
Tips:
- Make sure your avocados are VERY RIPE…like almost bordering on spoiled (ensures lump free pudding)....give them a quick mash before processing.
- Process until smooth….add full fat cream NOT low fat (sugar) to the processor, and more than called for if you need to thinner ora smoother consistency.
- Any sweetener of choice works, low or high carb, so add this to taste and carb requirements.. Should be done in 5 minutes. You can thank me later
)))))) it really is a decadent treat!
One last thing…..Vamp, are the Cavies invited Saturday night? We'll bring weird baked goods and pudding, promise!!
)))
Pixi(dust) – Enjoy those eats darlin!! Here's hoping the holidays make you fat (not really) n' sassy! Check out the pudding link I posted to Vamp above….it's a whole lot of fun in a cup! You can tweak to your desire.
Pebbles (Flinstone) – Your muffin (tart?) looks AMAZING, made my salivate
)) Wanna kick it up a notch and get all hoity toity? Replace the almond flour with hazelnut flour (expensive though) Hazelnut flour is almond flour on crack….something I drag out on holidays (can also make your own by simply grinding hazelnuts up in a processor). That said I bet your recipe is delicious and think I might just try to make some for the holidays….looks seriously yum!
I'm not sure if it is tamoxifen withdrawl or just my very HEAVY schedule lately. I can say I feel a tad 'slower'….maybe tamox sped me up?
) I hope you're getting more comfy with your plan, which sounds like a good one….just try to keep positive. Tamoxifen SEs are generally more of an annoyance and manageable more than debilitating. What you read on the boards is the worst of the worst. You got this!! I hope the egg hunt is successful, and no you didn't mention this before….smart cookie you are and think it's a wise move all things considered….keep us posted on that please...we love babies!
Man, what a sweet thing your coworkers did for you….and I can see why, you're such a cheery person, bet you're too much fun to work with! If it were me, I would have come back to a sign across my office saying 'GO BACK HOME!!"
))))))) As always, Domino is a cutie-pie….poor fella, he misses you….too sweet!
Note to JKL….well, I did it again….the dish towel dance that is…..another Nom Nom recipe LOL! Potstickers (which were amazing), but set the smoke alarm off seconds after adding the steaming water to the pan. Maybe we should mass email her and ask if this happens at her place? Luckily, my Cavedude wasn't napping!
I'll be back to post before Christmas kids…..hang in, we're almost at the 'put your feet up, slug o' wine' point!As always, have a splendiferous day!!!
-
Thank you for the recipe link, I will be trying that as soon as I get some avocados!
Well Egads if you or any other cavechicks want to fly in just for my little party I sure won't turn you away. 😁 Just a heads up, I will likely by also by 9, but DH will be going strong long after I turn in.
Grandpa's gift actually showed up yesterday, I can't believe it! Very happy about this!
Finished my Christmas wrapping today. Have to say I should have come here first so I could get tips on how to wrap perfectly! Here is one of my nephews, not quite as lovely as your presents Egads, but I think it has its own flair. 🤣😂 Thankfully my nephews tolerate my shenanigans, not that I care, as it really is all about my amusement. 😏
-
Vampriella - LOVE THIS!! Your creativity is showing and you take first place for wrapping ingenuity this year......awesome idea that I will be ripping off on one of my Cavedude's gifts....too funny!! I meant to mention about Grandad's gift...SO happy it arrived and was flabbergasted when you posted about the shipping mistake! WHEW! Grandpops is so good with the kids and deserves that prezzie...without zip ties
)))) I did my wrapping too...unfortunately most of my wrapping looks like my 2nd pic....
-
Hahahahaha - I must fly out today and re-wrap those gifts! Think I could start a Christmas business next year wrapping presents??? lol
My friend out did me, she took all my tricks and put it into one. She plastic wrapped, then duct taped, then zip tied and then she wrapped them in 4 boxes. That girl deserves this trickery she's a problem child. I hope my friend videos this!
This place is quiet - Anyone need me to come wrap presents for them?
-
Vampriella, this is getting scary....you told me about your love for wrapping yesterday, and last night (while still wrapping arggg) I thought “Vamp should set up a wrapping booth or home based service next year”.....great minds or separated at birth?
))))))))
*sits back waiting for the ‘fools rush in’ comments to roll in*
))))))
You’re right, It is very quiet in here....Y’all snowed under with Xmas? Hope the Cave Community has their wrapping done, stuff together....and as usual, enjoy a splendiferous day!!
-
After many years of hard work, our much loved Cave Chick Vampriella is on to a new life chapter...…………
This is where the fun times really ramp up Vamp, well done......Congratulations!! Enjoy the hell out of it!!
-
Domino and Tucker are ready to help me wrap lol...
-
Too cute Pebbles! Careful of what you're wrapping...……
After wrapping, teach them to do your work...…..,,
or show business.....didn't Justin Bieber start singing in malls?...…
)

Btw Peeps, when life hands you tough times....as we all have experienced.....and you feel that you are up against unsurmountable odds, can't figure out how to make it through, take a cue from the dog in my last posted .gif......her name is Faith, and aptly named too...….my workload doesn't seem so much after viewing...
-
LOL love the wrapping GIFs! And OMG - that sweet sweet dog. WOW, just wow. It's true isn't it that dogs just face life and live to their fullest any way they can! Dogs are the best.
Any time we are feeling like something is tough, we can think of this too!
