Bone mets and kidney stones

So, I have progressing bone mets and had a scan today. I’ve had flank pain since yesterday and figured whatever it was would show up on the scan and save me an Dr visit. Turns out it’s an 8 mm kidney stone. I’m 28 months into my diagnosis and have had a 3.5 mm stone that has been dormant for years. Never had an active kidney stone (I’m 50). I’m seeing a urologist tomorrow and waiting on a call back from my oncologist about getting some pain meds for tonight. Has anyone else experienced kidney stones related to bone mets? I’m neutropenic so I’m worried I won’t get a telltale fever of an infection starts but on the other hand, don’t want to go to the er for just pain meds and a pat on the head. I’d love to hear about your experiences

    Hi Larkin,

Its common with bone mets to get high calcium levels in the blood, owing to the degraded bone, and that can easily cause a kidney stone-

Larkin, sounds painful. I haven't had kidney stones but did suffer from severe hypercalcemia at the time of diagnosis. Has your bloodwork been showing elevated calcium levels? Calcium is part of the basic CBC panel. Good luck with the urologist appointment. I hope you can also get the pain under control.
