Madison: Well Im glad there isnt a deadline. Picture me frazzled, covered with persperation, bags flying everywhere. If I had enough hair it would be falling in my face. I have so much yarn its ridiculous - and cant find not one of my crochet hooks. Guess Ill have to give in and go buy one.

I just want to tell you that the first afghan to NS was just gorgeous!! I couldn't believe how good you all are!! That looked so professional. When I think of afghans those loose knitted ones w/holes in them came to mind not that beautiful piece of craftsmanship. I had no idea we had such talented people. Vicki, you did an amazing job pulling it all together. (Incidentally, if I'm EVER lucky enoughto get one I like puppies, no cats)I don't know a thing about crocheting & a beginner could never make anythng as beautiful as that so what can I do to help? Send money to help with postage? From what I gather you all have plenty of yarn but I can send some to anyone who needs it. Just tell me how I can help.
Beautiful job

Hi. I got together with Beth, Marge, Nancy and Mary today for our 2nd Philly get together. Had an awesome time! Beth told me about the afghan and I want to join in. I am a knitter and do have lots of cool yarn waiting to be put to use. I'm new to this thread so I browsed thru and saw the pictures of the squares you have made so far. Quite beautiful!!!! I am getting started tonight.
-
Got two more packages of square today...one from Beth and one from Binney...sooo beautiful. I have been crocheting my little finger off and loving every minute of it!!
Madison my dear,
If you are going to put the border on your squares keep them and I will send you some that I have...that way the yarn will match. Just thought about it and some blacks aren't as black as others and since you are putting afghans together too it will be perfect...love ya sister!
You are all wonderful...you are all doing such a wonderful job...thank you!
Love and hugs all around
Vickie -
Wanted to stop in to tell you how beautiful NS's afghan is! You did a wonderful job!
Thank you so much!!
Hugs and kisses to you all!

Almost finished with my first square. Are we just making them in whatever yarn we have? I'm doing a straight knit on this one, but can we vary the pattern as long as the squares are 7 by 9? Probably already been discussed, but I didn't read the entire thread, sorry.
-
Hi Sheri...yup you can use whatever yarn (except wool, which will shrink) that you have in any color or pattern. These will be afghans of many colors.
Trying to finish cleaning so I can get back to join some squares...I'll post pictures later.
Love
Vickie -
Vickie..what is the best way to mail these..so far I have 9 done...
-
Hi Lisa...the ones I've been getting have come in small boxes and padded envelopes and they have arrived just fine so whichever is cheapest is fine.
If you write..."from the circle girls" on the package my mail lady will leave them on the porch and not hanging from the mailbox (in case of rain). Isn't she a sweetie!
Crochet...clean...crochet...clean...that's been my day with a nap thrown in for good measure. -
<scoots laundry basket next to Vickie's and hopes she won't notice the extra one>
-
hey missy...that was sneaky!! LOL..I actually like doing laundry...hate washing dishes!
-
ok so nifty knitter thingy,,I think I might google it and read up on it and see if "even" i can do this. Might just have to give it a whirl.

Vickie
And yes Amy...if you can build a house you can use a knifty knitter LOL! -
OK! I went and got my crochet hook. Oh Madison, I kept thinking size G, but it looked so small to me for some reason. Just looked at your directions and it says G so yeah! Thats what I got. Gonna put a little twist into mine.
I will catch up with you all, I promise.
Nicki -
Nicki,
If size G doesn't give you the desired results, then you can go up a size..
I like "twist"....this is going to be fun.
Madison -
I must get a Knifty Knitter. I so want to be involved in this, too.
cheri -
Ok...two rows are done. Now mind you...this is NOT a good picture. It is square but I had to hang it from a curtain to get the picture so it looks a bit "out of shape". It's not, just a weird angle and wouldn't hang quite right.
I am going to add a border all the way around when it's finished.
let me know what you think... -
How FUN!! I see some 0f mine...too cool
Deb C -

Hugs
Vickie -
Vickie,
The rows look WONDERFUL. It will be a reflection of everyone's work because of all the colors....
I am sending a PM to Cherryl to give her my address.
Anyone else need my address....send me a PM...
You are all the Greatest...

I just posted on the crating thread that I was given a hugs box of crafts things from dh's aunt who just passed away. There is so much yarn! I need to make sure not to use the wool. But if anyone needs yarn I now have way more than I need. There is also a lot of baby yarn but it is not acrylic. I have not gotten to the bottom of the box and I know there will more coming when they finish cleaning out the house. She used to stash so much yarn!
-
Beth: I bet doubling the baby yarn would make a pretty square. Different colors together. Im starting my squares today. Gonna add a special touch - but not gonna tell anyone yet. I want to see if it comes out good first lol.
Nicki -
I am afraid to use the baby yarn because it is part wool. Vickie wanted to use all acrylic to ward off shrinkage. However, anyone wants some to make for babies in oyur lives, let me know. I have a couple nieces and a neighbor but not many babies these days! A lot of big kids though.
I am going to try my hand at knitting some. SoCalLisa, did you say to knit every row? I was thinking of maybe trying a basketweave pattern unless the swatch would be too small. What do you knitters think? I am not very experienced with knitting yet. -
Beth---two strands of sport weight yarn and a G hook will give you the same gauge as worsted. I made a bunch of squares using two different colors and they came out really pretty.
Jeannie -
Still no nifty knitter for me and I swear when I read about g's and h's and two stands of sport yarn and doubling yarn,,holy cow,,what have I got myself considering?!? Oh well, as Deb says laughter is great so if I give you all something to laugh at so be it.
Amy -
Amy---Gs and Hs are crochet hooks---ignore that, you're knitting. Stick to the nifty knitter and worsted and you'll be fine. Hey, I'm left handed and figured out how to knit right handed because that was the only info I could find---and I'm no crafty genious. Have never tried the nifty knitter but it looks like a giant version of those spool thingys we used to make when we were kids. Endless ropes of knitted cords and nothing to do with them!
Someone else already said this but if you can build your own house you can surely do this! I could build my own house too---all I'd have to do is rob a bank and call a contractor.
Jeannie -
lol Jeannie but somehow squaring a box up is easier than small yarn and plus building a house is outside work and I am not an inside person. I am thinking I can do this at night when I am relaxing before I go to bed. I dont watch TV much so this will take away from my reading time but its worthwhile and I think I will like it once I get the hang of it.
Geesh, I sound like some kind of geek when I go back and read my post. No Tv watching and reading,,I promise I am not a geek but if I watch TV I fall asleep. Go figure.
