My mom has been on Ibrance and Femara successfully for two years, but then was switched to Faslodex when her markers went up. She's feeling terrible. She can barely walk, has fluid in her abdomen, and has lost her appetite. The cancer is returning. Her oncologist is changing her to Afinitor and Aromasin combo, but I can't find much current info for this combination on this forum. It's so difficult to be able to make an educated decision when the doctor just decides this is what she will be on. Anyone have any recent experience with these drugs?

My mom is stage iv er+ pr+ Her2- w/ bone mets.

From what I’ve seen, there are more of us posting for whom afinitor did not work, and a smaller number for whom it did/does. I think the important thing is for your mom to stay in touch with her oncologist about how she is feeling. Don’t wait too long. Oncs like to try the anti-estrogen treatments before chemo, but if symptoms are bad, it may be time to switch to chemo to get control and calm things down. I see from another one of your posts that your mom has ILC, so it is important to evaluate the abdominal issue, as ILC can met to the peritoneum. A second opinion from a major center could be useful at this point.

Thank you so much for this. She's having CT and PET scans in a week too, so I guess we'll find out where it has spread. I hadn't thought of getting a second opinion since we have liked this doctor, but maybe we need to go to MD Anderson. I'm guessing if it's bad enough then chemo will be the next protocol. Some of the side effects of Afinitor I've read about really scare me.
