My Hypothesis About Sudden Unexplained Weight Gain in Cancer

Sorry, for being such a bitch the other night. Too much wine. Kira did a nice job of telling me to straighten up.

What an interesting article. To think they were only found 8 years ago. I'm considering how I can incorporate some of this knowledge to encourage the kids to look at their current diet.
The school I teach at is in a very poor county. We have a large number of migrants. Many of my students only eat 2 meals daily which are the 2 the school provides
I usually provide snacks that I give them in the afternoon to tide them over. After reading this I believe working on a weekly snack menu might be a great place to start.

Sorry sas thank you for the articles though. The hand sanitizer issue drives me nuts. We have the machines everywhere we go. I've already lectured them we really shouldn't be using the stuff. We use drugs way more than we should.
I was very lucky when my kids were small with their pediatrician. He was extremely reluctant to hand out medicines.

sas- Hi, I’ve never come across this thread before, it’s so very interesting! I’ve only made it through the first page of posts regarding weight gain. I wanted to share my theory with you to see what you think. What if the bc Causes the weight gain to help feed the cancer? If fat produces estrogen and most bc is Er+, weight gain would help feed it. I did not gain weight, but I felt like my hormones had been hijacked by the cancer.
I’m going to read some more posts when I get the chance. Thanks for your research and discussion

Your theory sounds reasonable.
This is actually two threads in one The weight gain theory and then research on the micro etc. The kindle keep auto correcting.
My computer is broken. Kindle is awful
-
heavy, since ed you are reading from rd he beginning if you make comments on a particular post, I will go back and read the link. I had no on to share the info with..
Okay, leaving the above totally bizarre statement. On kindle , who h autocorrects everything. Nightmare.
Peachy very interested in sharing ideas as you read posts

Check out the Aug. 18 issue of the Wall Street Journal. There is an article on page 2 re: the microbiome. Very interesting

Gussy haven't been here in awhile. What was the discussion on the microbiome. Guessing several things not necessarily in the WSJ sequence. 1. we should feed it i.e the gut bacteria. 2. it can change our health if not maintained. 3. many body systems are showing that dysfunctional biomes cause dysfunction of a system once messed up. 4. the gut dysfunction leading to leaky gut is the origin of the subacute endotoxins that enter the vascular system which then travel to many organs causing dysfunction. 5. the kupfer cells within the liver are affected and lead to type 2 diabetes. 6, affect/effect on the brain.
Gussy not being a bitch.......but no access to WSJ. they always put the veil on and asking for payment.
What were your specific memories of the article. Sorry, I have just needed time off.

Cpeachymom,
That is a really interesting idea. A lot of parasites manipulate the host to benefit themselves. (I'm no scientist, I hope I'm not spouting bs).
I'd been gaining weight for a couple of years before my diagnosis. It wasn't completely mysterious - I was eating more. I attributed to life stress, but I guess that physical conditions could also increase appetite.

Salamandra, I have been taking many breaks this last year. You commented on Peachies post. I too find it a plausible idea. If you care to read from the beginning you will find stories of women that have had sudden weight gains unexplained. Peachies idea that it may be feeding the cancer is plausible.OR conversely, it may be a defence against the cancer. Either way research needs to be done.
What I had hoped is enough stories would be written that some researcher would come along and want to pick up the thought and do intensive research. It may have happened and I/we don't know that it has happened.
I can';t remember if I wrote about it, but in the year before my thyroid cancer was dx'd in 2014 I gained 40 ibs. Kept telling the docs something wasn't right. Long story, I was right. Pappilary with a follicular component. Out the Thyroid came Radioative Iodine 131. Then the doc manipulated the thyroid hormone replacement and I gained 20 lbs super fast. So, 100% of docs would put it to either hormone replacement or "I ate too much". Frankly, I was waiting for the shoe to drop on another cancer. BUT YAY so far nothing (knocking wood).
You mention parasites, if you go back to the first page and look for the article from National Geographic, you may have some fun with it. Their study shows that we are bacteria poor. They studied an indigenous people in Venuezuela. The indigenous people had tens of thousands more bacteria than us and were quite well. In fact there were many bacteria unrecognized. The comment was it would take years just to categorize them.
If you page on later I discuss "Leaky Gut" syndrome. Years ago it was considered alternative science--quackery. The study done on through NIH microbiome department has proven that gut imbalance (dysbiosis) does lead to a leaky gut and many diseases. You may have some fun with that one too.
Hope you see this, it's been awhile, sassy
