Sertraline and Ibrance

Hi everyone,

Has anyone else experienced very low neutrophils whilst taking sertraline (an SSRI anti depressant) and Ibrance? I have done 7 cycles of Ibrance and my bloods have been fine. I have taken half does of Sertraline for 8-9 days, had blood test yesterday and now my neutrophils are very low so I have to have another blood test next week and can't start cycle 8. My dr said it was unusual for neutrophils to suddenly dip (I have been fine until now) so probably the sertraline? I'm on holiday next week so can't do blood test then so next cycle will be delayed by minimum of 2 weeks which I find a bit worrying!

Nothing seems to be simple!

Thanks :)

    Hey there,

When my wife started taking Ibrance a few months ago, we were handed a list of meds that could potentially interfere with it. At the time she had been treated with Zoloft for almost 6months but had to switch because sertraline along with other SSRIs drugs were listed. She saw a pshychiatrist that prescribed Celexa as it doesnt show any interaction with Ibrance. My understanding was Ibrance and SSRIs are metabolized in the liver by the same enzyme, hence why they made the list but it might also be a reason behind WBC lowering. Either way it is worth checking in with your neurologist/phsychiatrist.

please, let us know if you end up getting any feedback on that as it might help all of us 😉

Thanks Daniel. I think one of the general side effects of Zoloft can be low neutrophils and I guess combined with another drug that can also have that effect then it's not good! The dr said it is unusual for neutrophils to suddenly change after being steady (and fine) as they have been so was very much thinking it was the Zoloft. I hope so! I'm now quite scared as going on holiday with my 2 teenagers but with the very low counts I'm going to be a bit paranoid. Does anyone have experience of how long they take to recover to normal levels?

I will keep you updated when I get future blood test results as I guess if they are normal that would seem to say it was the Zoloft...

    Hello Everyone,

Just an update on this. My blood counts recovered after 2-3 weeks off Palbociclib. I then took another cycle and the blood counts were fine too (in fact blood counts done on day 21 of cycle as consultant away the following week and they were still at 1.8). So seems with me (and drs!) that the Zolof/Sertraline affected my neutrophils.
