Happy Anniversary Judy. Hope you had a good time downtown. I'm waiting to hear if the fireworks are cancelled for tonight. It is windy out there.

Hope everyone is having a good Holiday weekend.

    Hi everyone.....

Alot of you have expressed an interest in meeting and I have a suggestion...My family owns a restaurant in Flat Rock and my step-mom offered the restaurant to us if we would like to meet there...It is close to I-75 and very close to telegraph so it would not be hard to find....

Just let me know what you all think..... [Smile] .....
Hope you are all having a great holiday.....
    Hugs.....

    Hi Candi
How nice of your family to offer! What is the name of the restaurant? I don't think that Flat Rock is very far from here, about 20 - 25 miles or so from Garden City???

Sounds nice, let's see what everyone thinks. The only time I am unavailable is in the beginning of August, I am going to Myrtle Beach!!! An actual vacation, and not up north, wow!

    Candi:

I agree, how nice of your family to offer their restaurant. I live in Bloomfield Township, near Maple (15 Mile) and Telegraph. I'm sure with the address we could all do a Mapquest to find the location. Also, if anyone from this area (Troy, Royal Oak etc.) wanted to meet up, we could perhaps carpool?? Just an idea.

    Let's see what everyone thinks . . .

    Blessings,
    Pat

I'd love to meet everyone. Geez, I drove 4 hours to Chicago, Flat Rock is just a little sprint. When we set a date, let's move this post to the "Get Togethers" topic below so it won't get buried so quickly. Some of the Chicago ladies might be interested in coming out also.

    Hello lady Michiganians!

Lorrie & DebraLynn, My surgeon is Dr Pettinga as well. My PS is Dr. Puri, Oncologist is Dr J from Cancer Care Associates, though I have seen most of the practice because I like the smallness of the Dequindre office best and have to take whoever is there on my day. So far they have all been great.
My radiologist will be Dr. Gustafason when I complete chemo (last round of Taxatere on Sept 9th).
Had a mastectomy March 10th. AC done on the chemo and had my first taxatere today. Feeling OK so far. Did pretty good with the AC. Usually only a week of tiredness.
I am a mother of three boys, 12, 9 & 5. Husband of almost 14 years who has been great.
Just moved into a new home in Rochester Hills (moved the week of my first chemo, what was I thinking!!!).
Would be interested in a get together.

Hi Debra, I know what you mean about being there so often especially during radiation. My breast surgeon is Dr. Pettinga, radiation oncologist Dr. Stromberg, oncologist Dr. D'Ericcio, plastic surgeion Dr. Busuito. Any familiar names to you?
I would love to all meet, and would be very interested in car pooling as it is a distance and I have absolutely no since of direction, although I would be willing to drive and someone direct!!! Lorrie

Debra & ejs: My rad doc is Gustafson also!! But out of Royal Oak Beaumont. He is so funny, a bit vague at times... but I like him. It was important to me to 'connect' with my rad doc, and I felt like I connected with him right away.

Hope we hear from Candi again soon, with more info for the get together.

Hello - I'm new to this club of people with cancer and I'm just adjusting to it. I've know since 6/17/04 I have DCIS- stage 0- I hear I'm very lucky- but I'm still kicking myself for not having a mammogram last year. I was busy having my second hip replacement. I will be having a mastectomy at Johns Hopkins on 6/27, with a diep flap reconstruction. I couldn't find anyone in Michigan doing this procedure. Because of my hips- I was worried about the muscle re-direction of the tram. I live in Grosse Pointe- with my husband, and two teen daughters (15, 17). Instead of being excited about getting my eldest ready to report to MSU for the fall- I'm instead planning for surgery in Baltimore. Funny what life throws at us? I'm told that whenever God closes a door- he opens a window- and right now I'm searching for the window- and the "reason" this is happening to me. I'll let you know when I find it!! My husband says perhaps we were meant to go through this together to bring us closer- funny- I think we could have just gone one a long trip in a small RV to get closer! I can't share anything about Doctors in Michigan except if I were going to have surgery here it would have been with Cheryl Weisen who works out of the Van Elslander Cancer . She was great!! Hopefully- my nodes will come back negative and I will not have to have radiation- but if so- I will be interested in your experiences. I would be very concerned with radiation on my left breast since I'm afraid it would effect my heart. I look forward to reading your postings, Donna

    Small world isn't it?
EJS, I had my chemo at the Dequindre office last year, (finished up last July), and I also saw all the Dr. and loved the nurses.
I had a mastectomy but 1 positive lymph node so I decided to go for the radiation.
Maybe we could have a small gathering in Troy somewhere being we are all so close, and also meet the gals in Flat Rock one day. My best wishes to all of you....and just let me remind you that there is end to all the tx. and that it is all worth it and your hair will come back thicker and better than before!!!! Mine actually came back very curly! Lorrie

    Hi ladies,

I'm not from Michigan, but just across the River in Windsor, Ontario. (Actually Amherstburg, Ontario across from Boblo Island)
Diangosed last year with 2.5 cm tumor - had lumpectomy and axillary nodes taken - 5 of 10 testing positive. ER+PR+ - 6 A/C's and 1 taxol. (Didn't do taxol well at all so they put me back on AC.) Then it was on to radiation. Went to the onc yesterday and all is well except for the bone aches from arimidex.
I'm 53, married 32 years, three grown children with the last one leaving the nest early August. We just sold our house and we too will be moving in August. I work full time for a Staffing Agency.
We "vacationed" in Michigan last weekend....Soaring Eagle Casino. Had a ball - won - lost - ended even. haha
    Take care all

    Welcome Donna and Pauline!
Donna, I too had DCIS Stage 0, partial mast, almost done with radiation now. 8 more to go! The radiation hasn't been too bad, there are quite a few threads here on rad., one each for May, June and July rad girls, and they are full of info. I have daughters the same age, one going to Schoolcraft in the fall. I go to U of M Dearborn, one more year, and I'll be a teacher! The bc kind of set me back a bit, but I hope to be full of energy in the fall!

Pauline: I used to love going to Boblo Island when I was younger!! We used to go to Amherstburg and take the smaller boat there (not sure why, my parents decision) rather than the big boat from Detroit.

    Talk to you girls later!

Hello and happy rain! It has been awhile since I have checked in…I guess life has been busy. My doctor was Pettinga as well. I had my surgery at Troy Beaumont and did my radiation at RO Beaumont.

Anyway…I too am interested in the dinner get together. I live in Oxford…so I will just be driving right down 75 as well. Any ideas on the days and times…weekdays…weekends?

Judy-where do you camping Ludington? I love that area. We just got back from a three day camping trip at Hoffmaster on Lake Michigan.

    Hello MI gals!

NotMe: We haven't camped in a couple of years, I really miss it. I can't remember the name of the campground now. We also would camp at Silver Lake State Park in Mears, and drive up to Ludington alot.

Hopefully we will hear from Candi soon about the restaurant get-together; otherwise, maybe we could think of another place to meet? I have a friend who is manager at Champs in Livonia, maybe I could ask her if they have a room for us. It's near Haggerty and 7 mile I believe.

Gotta go cut the grass before my neighbors kill me!!! It's been a while (we're re-seeding).

    Hugs

It would be nice to meet you ladies. A weekend is best for me and also some of the Chicago ladies might make the trip so they would need driving time.

    Hi Candi, Nancy and all:
A weekend would be best for me as well. I think it would be great fun to meet all of our area 'sisters,' and am looking forward to it. Again, if we do decide on a date - carpooling is always an option. I'm in the Bloomfield Township area, and am west of Telegraph/between Maple (15 Mile Rd) and Quarton (16 Mile Rd.) We could always meet at a central spot and drive together from there. Something to think about . . .
    Blessings,
    Pat

Does anyone mind if I move this to the get-together topic? I'd like to include our Michigan neighbors or anyone else who wants to make the trek. Either Saturday or Sunday is good for me.

Nancy, please do move this to Get togethers! Thank you for offering. Can't wait to get this together, it should be fun!

For those of you who live near Plymouth, my hubby's band is playing at the Coffee Bean on Penniman by the post office on July 31st. Quaint little coffee shop, it's his reggae/Grateful Dead band. Hopefully his other new band will be playing around town soon, too. It's a fun night out, which I NEED!!!

Look what Melissa, our 'Moderator Extraordinaire' did for us! She moved this to Get Togethers. Maybe this won't get buried so quickly and reach more people.

Maybe 'Not Me' can edit the post and change the title - to Michigan and Friends or Michigan and Neighbors or Anyone who wants to travel to Michigan?

    Hi:
This reply may be a repeat of what I just wrote but I seemed to have lost what I wrote. I would like to meet you all. I live in Woodhaven, very close to Flat Rock. Actually, I just drove by the Cafe, yesterday. Anyway, I was diagnosed in March, had a lumpctomy on Good Friday and finished radiation on June 25.

My biggest concern is Arimidex. The oncologist is suggestng that I take it; however, the side effects seem to outweigh the benefits. It doesn't guarantee that the cancer won't recur. It just reduces the odds and I don't believe that the odds are that great.

    Any thoughts?

I look forward to hearing about the date of teh get together.

Welcome Pam. I had about the same timeframe, surgeries March 12 & 19th, finish rads tomorrow. Am actually going thru same difficulty deciding about tamoxifen. Sigh. Not an easy decision.
I have been searching the boards for old messages pertaining to the subject. Just end up even more confused!

Hopefully we can all come up with a date that works for us. Pretty exciting, should be fun.

    Hi Everyone..

Sorry I am late on this post, but saw that you might be putting together a gathering in September? As you know I live in Canton; but maybe there is a spot that we can meet that is good for everyone.

My fiancee's aunt who has battled BC; now is in the Henry Ford Hospital for bone, liver and unfortunately brain mets. The prognosis is dim-just makes me so mad that this disease is taking so MANY of us away. (sigh)

Ayways, just wanted to check in. Hoping all of YOU are having one glorious sunny day!

    Lorie

    Diagnosed:
April 27, 2004 (My birthday DAMMIT!)
IDC Left Breast: 2.5 cm (no clear margins)
DCIS Right Breast (no clear margins)
    Angiolymphatic Invasion present
    HER+
    FISH -
0/5 Nodes negative (the surgeon would only take out "5" due to my prior radiation-see below)

    May 20, 2004
Bilateral Mastectomy/with expanders (another whole story with this..hehe)

    Stage IIB-Undecided about adjuvant/hormonal therapy.

Hodgkin's Disease 1975-1976; Radiation 5x weekly till the end of my birthday (I think there is something cosmically happening here)

Thyroid Cancer 1999; Partial Thyroidectomy, then determined no clear margins so preceded with complete Thyroidectomy!

    Hot and Sunny today!!! Whew!

Ok, let's look at what we've got in Sept., Saturdays...we have Sept. 4, which is Labor Day weekend, Sept. 11, Sept. 18, and Sept. 25th. I would think the 4th is out, the 11th a bit sad...how about the 18th? Just putting it out for suggestions...what do you think?

Candi: of course, you will have a big say in a date, since it is your restaurant..is it available for our use any particular day, or would one day be better than another?

Try not to melt in this heat, girls! I'm heading out to the pool now, talk to you all later!

    Hugs
    Judy B.
