Flag, I hope treatment will be faster enough for you coming back to school!!
I hope cure for cancer with minimal invasion and side effects will be discovered soon, because it’s wrecks lives of us and loved ones!
Robinda what are you teaching ?

My surgery is set for 7/16, BMX and Ooph. Just started the muciprocin goo up both nostrils today. Gross. Tonight I'll use a petit pois size lump and hope it's less disgusting. It's starting to get real. I've been glad to read others here that had positive outcomes (negative node findings and the like), hate to read about the negative outcomes. My wedge pillows (one for head, one to elevate feet) arrived yesterday. I have one more big project to finish at work (tomorrow!) and then can hope for two full weeks of absolutely no work disruptions (self-employed, no guarantees there). My aunt (26 year bc survivor!) will "babysit" the one time we know my husband has to be out for a couple of hours. Still not telling anyone really about this ordeal - I'm not ready to have people know. Upside of that: no risk of unwanted visitors. Downside: people keep telling me to enjoy my vacation next week and that they hope we're going somewhere fun! Anyway. To those that have been through surgery, thank you for sharing your experiences. It's comforting.
-
I taught 5th grade years ago before my kids were born. Last few years have been just subbing but now looking for full time. What do you teach?
-
I've thought of a couple of questions.
1: I have what I hope is plenty of button-up shirts (oversize) for the next couple of weeks. I have button-up blouses that I hope will fit when I have to go back out into the community (job-related). I'm wondering how long it takes before oversize t-shirts, pullover tops or baggy sundresses are possible. My husband will gladly help if that's all it takes to wrangle a top onto me while range of motion is an issue. Is that all it is, having someone help?
2: I read, a lot - it's a great escape from the real world!! How soon before holding a book or Kindle is not uncomfortable? I've never done an audiobook and wonder if I should plan to download a bunch of those to make "reading" easier. I don't usually watch tv or movies.
Thanks to anyone who can venture an answer.

Robinda, elementary school reading math !!
-
Vermonster, sbout the clothes- something with front zipper like a robe. Or stretchy dress that you can wear feet first! I wore robe at home and dress going home from hospital . Both items bought at tjmaxx

-
Vermonster

-
Vermonster, for the first week you can't lift your arm so consider wearing zipper front clothe or dresses. Second week you can start moving shouldersAnd I love books too you can download books. Here is mine from kindle.
I was holding my cell 5-6 hours after surgery. Try slowly to hold or just prop the iPad on your pillow.
It’s doable you know!!

Here is another book

-
Thank you Bostoniangal25 - I have a bunch of button front shirts (out of hubby's closet!) and loose shorts/pants (drawstring) - so first week or two should be ok - I don't care what I look like at home! I'm fretting more about when I finally have to go out in public (my job often involves interactions folks where I need to dress "nicely") as to whether my summer teeshirt dresses (and similar dressy casual stuff) will work...
-
Vermonster, I m not It sure if you can button yourself the first couple of days, perhaps Beothuk the help of others!
Docs don’t recommend to go out on hot weather and sweat a lot especially with tubes . So a week past after my surgery, but I didn’t go anywhere except my doc appointment. And no driving for 3 weeks perhaps.
You can wear loose nice dresses or oversized blouses to go for a work.
-
Thanks Bostoniangal25 - my husband will gladly do the buttons, I have no plans to go anywhere or any need to go anywhere (except follow up doc appts on the calendar in 2nd week) and won't need to drive myself for as long as it takes - so I guess I should be ok by the third week with loose blouses - if not, we'll cope I guess!

I am scheduled for bi lateral mastectomy on July 30, with lymph node removal. Two things are stressing me out. The pre op nuclear injection part...apparently it is the worst thing ever...and the wait for the pathology report at my follow up on Aug 28. Way too long to wait! I am going to ask my GP to call me right away, as I hear she will have the results in 5 days. Does anyone have words of wisdom for the pre op nuclear injection part? Can I be under a general anesthetic for that?? Do we have to specifically ask (in my case beg and plead?). Also I am scheduled to be at a cottage for two weeks, 12 days post op. Is that crazy? I am thinking it would be nice to lounge around and recover, away from day to day stuff.
-
Elizabeth, I was scared of the prep neuc shot too, maybe I was lucky but it was no big deal, not a place you'd like to get a shot but not horrible
-
Hi Elizabeth,
I second Debsmisto. Was like the biopsy. A few lidocaine injections and did not feel the business injection at all!
Good luck
-
I have bras and a prosthetic I would donate. Never used. Bras very uncomfortable for me and prosthetic is just not for me.

Elizabeth9, I feel your pain , if I wouldn’t read much forum I wouldn’t know about pain . So I asked my surgeon if they numb - they usually don’t it’s 10 seconds ordeal, not that bad just some burning , especially for mothers who went through labor and delivery, that is a peace of cake.
Usually first you have to change to a gown.put iv, Than nuclear injection, then, inject happy juice for relaxing u and then wheel your to or . I was so calm when they wheeled me in operating room . I remember they put mask on me and then boom! Woke up st recovery room
About pathology report- it’s fast 5/6 days , but oncotype takes 2 weeks maybe. Good luck, don’t worry you will be fine!!!
-
I have been lurking around the site for awhile and thought I would join in. I am scheduled for a DMX with diep reconstruction on the 18th. I had my lymph nodes removed on the 6th and they were clear. I feel like I am to calm right now and am afraid I will have a massive meltdown before the surgery.
I really appreciate this site and everyone's contribution, it had definitely helped to guide some of my questions with my surgeons.
-
kgrego1, welcome to join the forum!!!❤️❤️❤️Good luck with the surgery, ask on pre op appointment for happy juice- to calm you down!!!
-
Those who had DMX with expanders. Are you wearing a bra? If so what kind??
-
Robinda- I had a nipple sparing BMX in May and did not wear any kind of bra for 6 weeks. I came out of surgery with nothing. Even now I just wear a cami as an extra layer of coverage, definitely don’t need need the support!
-
I had double mast w/tissue expanders and was sent home in a surgical bra to wear until further notice, this Tues will be 2 weeks and I'm still wearing it
-
hey ladies.
Kkrego. I'm also on the 18th. Lumpectomy and recon on left side. Will be thinking of you
I bought a shefit bra. It's got Velcro adjustment at shoulders and ribcage and had good reviews from a couple of BC users.
I'm wondering if anyone in our circle is from bergen county nj. My husband's friends wife had surgery a few dAys ago at valley - same hospital I'm using. They refer patients to this site
If so, maybe message me.
Debmisto -- stay well. Thinking of you

Hello all,
I'm 32, BRCA2+ and have stage 0 DCIS, grade 3. I'm scheduled for my DMX with pre-pectoral TE this Thursday 7/19. My mom had the same thing in 2003, which is how we first found out about BRCA. I decided then (at age 19) that I would have a prophylactic DMX (we have no history of gyn cancers) once I was done with kids. Fast forward to April, I'm done having and breastfeeding my kids and go in for my first baseline mammo when they found the DCIS. Because of the location of my DCIS, they can't save the nipples (and I don't think I'd be comfortable keeping them regardless) but my surgeons are going to do areola sparing. Just curious if anyone else has done this, or is planning to? It seems like a relatively new procedure, and cosmetically I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around what I'm going to see. I'm barely an A cup now, but at my biggest while nursing I was almost a C, so that's what I'm hoping for with TEs, if all goes well. It's super encouraging to read all your posts and realize what I'm feeling is normal, and to get insight into the future! Here's to clean scans and healthy futures!
-
This is my first time to post. I had my DMX with DIEP flap reconstruction on July 9th. I’m at home recovering with plenty of help from my family. I went home two days post op and feel my recovery is going well. I should get final pathology report next week and then have an appointment with medical oncologist on August 6th to find out further treatment. Reading all of your posts on here have really helped me since my diagnosis in May.
-
Yeah. I went home with no surgical bra and wearing nothing now. Will probably do camis later.
-
littlerebel- I had a nipple sparing BMX with te’s placed in May. Right after surgery I looked deflated, like they took a needle to my boobs and popped them like balloons. My skin ended up getting stressed because my surgery took twice as long as they anticipated so my ps left the te’s empty for the first 2 weeks to let things heal without any additional stressing. Be prepared for your areolas to turn dark purple, like really dark purple!! Mine did for a few days and then started to pink up. They then scabed over and that took a good 4-5 weeks to stop. This may or may not happen to you but don’t freak out! I was a small B cup prior to surgery and I have no idea how big I am now. My expanders have 225cc in them and up until the last fill I had they did not bother me at all. Now they’re annoying I may actually ask my ps to remove a little bit of the saline in hopes the uncomfortableness will go away. Good luck this coming week!

SLL101984: you said your skin stressed a lot...I had DMX on July 2. I was very purple after surgery especially the right side. It's gotten better but still discolored. They said I had a lot of bleeding in surgery on right side. How long was your skin discolored??
-
SLL101984 - thanks for the info! I had read about the discoloration/scabbing with NSM but it wasn't until a few days ago that I realized I'll have the same problem! In my mind since I'm not keeping the nipple it just didn't click they're still going to be cutting the areola! Do/did you have any sensation during the healing process? I've read other people saying they don't necessarily feel pain, but the remaining skin is highly sensitive/easily irritated. I'm so small currently I have a feeling they won't be able to fill the TEs at all during placement, so as not to stress the stitches - I feel like the areola skin is so delicate. I'd be worried about those stitches healing properly first before trying to stretch the skin, but at the same time that same area takes a beating during breastfeeding, so maybe it's stronger than I think! Our bodies sure are crazy.
-
My skin healed well, and quick. No bruising. But my areolas and nipples got almost black two days after surgery. That lasted a couple days and it slowly started to heal, scab, and reveal pink underneath.
As far as sensations go I don’t have much feeling on the skin at all on my breasts. I have feeling still all around them so hoping it will come back some. I also didn’t not have any stitches just glue.
