Kicking LE's butt!! Exercise & Self Care Log

I will have to check out the thread! Thanks Hugz! I carry gloves in my bag and should use them more than I do! One of the biggest problems for me is my LE is my dominant side! Boy I had no clue how "right handed" I was! No one ever told me what stag my LE was...how is it graded? With all it takes to manage mine I'm assuming I'm not Zero...lol. I wear the compression bra, swell spot, compression cami, slevee and glove everyday. Have a flexitouch and night garments. ...sounds bad...huh?
-
2FUN - I have breast & truncal LE. I found great results when my PT was doing kinesio taping around my back, under my arms and down to my groin. Unfortunately it didn't last many days - especially if I showered. And it's not something I could do myself.
-
minus two, did your PT use the "fan" or basket weave approach? Just curious. I'm trying to figure out how to apply the elastic tape to improve scar mobility. DH is not very adept, so I think I will ask DD,
-
Oh my goodness 2FUN, I'm not sure. Just thinking about the pattern - it had to be what you're calling "fan". So I just looked it up and Yes - Fan. Did you know there are pre-cut fan strips?
-
Varg. Staging for le is stepup-speakout.org. Stage 0 is no swelling. My MLD therapist said I'm stage one in hand and two in arm if I remember right. I have very little swelling and pitting.
2 fun. If I had a personal le assistant living at home I would have them ktape me regularly. It's wonderful for my trunk. I had three stripes going across my upper back in a wave pattern. My therapist took the course. She made the tape wrinkle on me by having me stretch forward as she laid the tape and that caused convulsions which was perfect. It's a work of art!
Ive also had a fan, which she precut and put on on my breast which started under my pit and fanned out across to other side.
Off to gym this morn. I’m sore from 5 hours gardening and I’ll try to work around that.
-
amygil81, I was very fortunate with the crutches...turned out I didn't need them. I ended up having a hip replacement and used a walker for two days, then a cane for about three weeks, and then I was steady and balanced and moving on with life. I know that if we must use crutches, we can and should operate them with arm strength and not just putting weight on them via our armpits. I'm just glad that I didn't have to learn that technique, after all.
-
For anyone needing crutches, I recommend the knee scooter. Not only is it fun but way faster than crutches.
Le and crutches are not a marriage. Very hard on arms.
Went to gym today.
-
Ok just peeled off three miles in the forest. was beautiful
-
WHOOT WHOOT!! Go Hugz! We are under flash flood warnings with tons of road closures. All my walking is inside today!
-
varg. Oh dear, do have your emerg bag packed with your le gear to go! Be safe!
-
Hugz, for a temporary situation like Carol's, you're absolutely right, a knee scooter is great if your surgery allows. For a permanent disability like mine, it's crutches or a wheelchair. I tried the wheelchair when my LE first started getting bad. It didn't help much, probably because I still had to push it with my arms. And I really didn't like the reduced mobility, and having my head at most people's stomach level. I sure wish they'd hurry up and cure LE.
-
Amy. Thanks for mentioning that.
Yes, my mom bounces between crutches and wheelchair and pushcart. Her crutches are her mainstay. Thank goodness she doesn't have le.
Are you able to manage the crutches without getting flare ups like the wheelchair?I'll just say it for you “ le sucks big time especially with mobility issues., ugh dang le" yes, many times a day I’m waving my magic wand for le cure

Made it to Silver Sneakers yesterday. Worked in the yard digging & pulling weeds this morning for 2-1/2 hours until it was over 90 degrees at 10:30am. i think I lost 5 lbs of sweat. Dang - I "use'ta could" work all day in this kind of heat & sun. Silver Sneakers again tomorrow.
Water aerobics starts Saturday morning and that will be 3x a week. So if I'm a good girl, I'll be exercising 5 days a week.
-
Minus. Your so inspiring. I could never garden in that heat. I’mGrouchy in anything past 75-80 degrees
Slogged it out at gym. Ran two miles in 25. That was hard work for me since I’ve lost stamina over dang sprained ankle in dec. cardio is coming back slowly. I’ll just keep slogging away.
-
Varga, just checking in on ya. Mudslides and rivers overflowing in the mountains. Hope you are high and dry
-
It's a mess! We are dry and safe but the rental properties are not. The fire department evacuated those at 2 a.m. this morning the structures are still standing and the water was slowly going down but now it's pouring again! I'll try to post some pictures When I'm done flexi pumping!
-
varg. pics would be cool only if your safe. Sounds like you might be distracted with insurance companies on the rental. U might get a bit of exercise running back and forthfrom insurance agencies. Take some deep breath in this stressful time.
-
I tried to load a few picture last night and It just wasn't happening!
Try again! The's are 4 unit buildings. I will post some old pictures so you get idea of how deep the water got.
-
OH MY! It’s shocking. Thx. Wish you less stress on days to come.
-
stay safe Varga!
-
Yikes Varga! Glad everyone got out safely but what a mess. We haven’t had wide spread flooding but we have had some localized. Nothing like that tho. Stay safe
-
Varga - so sorry. Looks like Hurricane Harvey in Houston last September. Hope you can get things back in shape with a minimum of stress.
-
Sweated up a storm at gym. Speaking of storm. This May we broke records here with sun and no rain. Rain storm tonight. Guess what? My arm has decided to act strange. Yup it barometric pressure i figure. Weird aches.
-
Tomorrow is the first day of water aerobics for the season. I'm still sore from weeding Wednesday and then Silver Sneakers the next day.
-
Minus. Wow that’s s lot of activity packed into a few days! I’m hoping the water aerobics is outside. That’s would be so awesome. We are all about indoor pools here. Just gotta keep moving. Only sat in car for an hour. On my feet rest of the day. Planted green beans and four zucchini today. Watered, weeded and yadda yadda in the garden.
-
Yes, the water aerobics is outside in our community pool. We're a small neighborhood - 180 homes - and it's a small pool. We didn't think we'd get enough participation to pay a teacher this year after holding classes for 9 years. Now I'm worried that we'll have too many people show up to have enough room for exercises. Outside is lovely except for mother nature. People are already bitching about the sun for an hour on Saturdays at 10am and we haven't even started. And of course we get shut down for thunder storms at least a couple times a month for the evening classes.
-
Outside sounds delightful.
Last year I got a landsend one piece suit that has arm sleeves attached and its great for outdoor water aerobics when I travel and find an outdoor pool. I slap on a baseball cap and only need lotion on my face. The suit is sun protective. Not outdoor pool nearby me. Dang
-
any ideas about compression stocking, or socks? I had pelvic lymph nodes removed when I had hysterectomy for endometrial cancer, and I have pretty aggressive leg edema. Any good catalogs to look into?
-
2Fun, I have LE in one leg and use BrightLifeDirect for stockings. I like the Allegro Essential cotton stockings. If you can wait a bit they usually have a sale on them throughout July, but even without a sale their prices are competitive. The customer service has been excellent as well.

Please let us know what you come up with!
Hugs,
Binney -
I don’t know how good they are, but I just ordered some Pro Compression socks. They had a buy 2 get 3 free deal and I decided to try them. I haven’t gotten them yet, but when I do I’ll let you know how I like them. Side note: they are not cheap
