Kicking LE's butt!! Exercise & Self Care Log

Wish we could have some of your rain....
Silver Sneakers this morning. We had the regional director as a sub and she never let us stop moving for the full hour. I'll be sore tomorrow. But Friday is one of my days off.
-
ok. I'm in. Gave away my treadmill so will dig out the Wii. Don't know if I can make 30 minutes to start but I will get moving!
-
ohio, good for you! Probably digging out the Wii from wherever you've stashed it will count as part of your aerobics--at least it would in my house!
I'm just now starting my half hour of fast walking. Seems like the days are too full of interruptions, but walking in the evening gives me time to rethink the day and plan out tomorrow. They say evening exercise could make it hard to sleep, but I find the opposite is true. And anyway, my very down-to-earth PCP says the best time of day to exercise is whenever you'll do it. So, off to walk and take all that smuggishness to bed with me.
Pleasant dreams!
Binney -
Hello all! I'm headed to the gym. I've been able to complete 30 minutes of cardio each day except Wednesday (I take a 'Strength & Stretch' class on Wednesday evenings). I'm wearing my sleeve all day and the gauntlet when I exercise or drive. So far, not a lot of increased swelling and I want to keep things that way. Let's keep on keepin' on, ladies!
-
Wow I just can't comment on each of yours progress but it's fantastic. this is a great kick off to kick le in butt.
STAMP OUT LE BY STOMPING.
Ohio, even walking a few minutes in house is good. There is no time set. That way beginners can start. Just 5 out of 7 days participation.
Back from gym. Done moving for the day. So far so good. I'm ready for a couple days off! I see some of you are smug. I'm overly smug today!
-
Got another 30 minutes of walking in today in the humid, hot evening sun. My hubby and I spent the day exploring the Piatt Castles, a nearby attraction that we never had been to yet. They are both large limestone mansions built in the 1800's and in the process of being restored. Tomorrow is my monthly relaxation massage...counting down to Monday to return to my pool and water aerobics buddies. Keep moving, everyone!
-
We finally got a break from the rain! Got a good walk in today! Managed to get 8 miles in today. Fingers crossed that the sun is out tomorrow. I'm missing my pool time!
-
varga. How does one walk 8 miles. whew u making me tired just imagining . I'd say your feeling SMUG about this feat.
Laurel. I'll have to look up those castles. Sound cools. Good job tramping around. SMUG too
-
has anyone counted how many are doing challenge. I counted nine quickly but not sure if I counted some twice. Woo hoo.
Off to bed must rejuvenate for the challenge.
-
8 miles is a light day for me! I run around all day! Average day is 11 miles +. I have add 30 solid minutes of cardio not just burst of cardio.
I'm feeding my girl breakfast and decided to look on line for compression gear. My insurance is good and I get 3 sleeves a year but I'm hard on them! I need probably need 5 or 6. I found Compression Guru and they have great prices. Just incase anyone is looking to purchase new gear.
The sun is out today. Going to get my smug on!
-
Took yesterday off as heat and humidity were not conducive to moving, and it was relaxation massage day too. So today, pointed both fans at me and completed 30 minute Cardio Core Express. My pool is down tomorrow for maintenance so Water Aerobics will have to wait. I have measurements tomorrow with my PT to see how the swelling is doing post-cellulitis. Good to see everyone posting. It helps to know you all are making the effort to beat LE and it’s impact on our lives.
-
Hello all and WTG with the exercise. I am doing my 2 mile walk daily plus a little gardening. The garden has been a mess this spring since I was busy with surgery, radiation and now LE! Oh well, hopefully the fall will be better!
Vargadoll- I did go to compression guru and ordered the wearease slimmer -about $10 less than amazon .
Hope you all have a great week.
-
Good job all.I'm considering picking up the tons off fallen green walnuts off our big tree. Picking up one at time would make a lot of deep bends. I figure it will take me 15 min and then I'll walk dog for remainder but first it has to cool off today.
-
Hugz-that's how I exercise! Got in the pool yesterday but it was too cold so I jumped back out! Lots of running around today. The temps got in the 80 so hopefully the pool heat back up and be LE friendly. Tomorrow I start prep for my colonoscopy wish me luck!
-
Varga - yes, good luck with the colonoscopy - AND with the prep. I got a 5 year pass last time but I'm due again in 2019
My two days off on the 5/2 challenge are Friday & Sunday. So today I did absolutely nothing. Truly - no thing. Just sat in my recliner & tried to catch up on all my reading. Managed to doze twice around noon while reading the Sunday paper. Oh - well I did have to walk out to the driveway to get the morning paper, but that isn't even 25 steps. What a lovely, lazy, useless day. Back to the challenge tomorrow !!!
-
Ok it took 19 minutes of bending over to pick up nuts and walk them to the bin I placed far away to make it an exercise. I counted about 189 bend overs. My husband just watched thinking I'm so inefficient until he figured out I was exercising and not cleaning a yard. Of course I shouted out, that's 189 bend overs! It reminded me of when Binney would walk in her house and deposit a cork into a jar to keep count if laps.
Then I did 15 minwalk dog.
Ur....did someone say colonoscopy.. I'm due soon. Please don't remind me of the stuff you take to clean you out. Well actually you could call it running exercise and count it! Baaaah!
Minus. Good for you. We need days like that! Now hop to it tomorrow!
Flower. Good job moving. Gardening is great exercise.
-
MinusTwo - good for you for being able to relax! I have always to tense to relax. I always have to be doing something. My mom said I was impossible to potty train that at 3 I would tell her I didn't have time to go to the potty. Lol
Hugz- great job! I had a slow day yesterday but still got in almost 19,000 steps.
I'm going to get my 3 y/o grandson and 17 month old granddaughter this morning. That will keep me moving a d not thinking of a colonoscopy tomorrow!
Popsicles and jello today!
-
Wow we are really rockin it here. Finished a 45 min walk glad to get it over and done.
-
Hey! I'm keeping up with my daily 30 minute fast walking! Haven't taken any days off yet because I'm afraid of breaking this new "habit." A couple of observations:
It's not just that I feel smug, I actually feel a lot BETTER too. Physically. Mentally. And the house gets picked up, because I walk around and around and spot everything that's out of place, pick it up as I go by and deposit it wherever it belongs. All good.
What's NOT so good is trying to fit in a solid 30 minutes between the interruptions that are the norm around here. It takes some finagling of the "schedule" (such as it is). It also takes some getting up a bit earlier, or some going to bed after everybody else. I have even been heard to say, "You'll have to wait!" in reply to a few urgent requests for my immediate attention. Strangely enough the crew here is finding themselves capable of waiting, so, added bonus there.
Once I get going I don't want to stop. It's almost hypnotic. So I'd rate this week SMUG.
Onward!
Binney -
Look out everyone!.... Binney is feeling SMUG and deserves so!
Out planting echinacea soon! Feeling a wee bit smug too
-
Love that SMUG feeling...45 minute walk in the 85 degree humidity of the evening. Also had PT session for LE and helped a friend pack her apartment for 2 hours. Achieved my 10000 steps today and some, but more importantly, felt good all day. Great to hear of everyone's ways of getting exercise in this week.
-
Water aerobics for an hour today. Looks like I'll miss my Thursday class since the gas company wants to install a new meter. I'll have to make some treadmill time. Unfortunately a neighbor in our block has been diagnosed with West Nile Virus - so walking outside at dawn or dusk are out for now. If there's even one mosquito in the state of Texas, it will find me.
Edited to say - congrats Binney. Isn't is amazing what our families can do when we're not jumping to their wishes.
-
so I haven’t been on lately to check in, but in the last 5 days I have moved more furniture and packed away more clothing than I can count. I’m not necessarily walking every day, but I’ve been working my hiney off helping a friend clean out her moms house. We also demolished part of a room, installed insulation in the ceiling, put up a new wall and took down all the trim so we could put up headboard ceilings. Today we started painting. Have mercy, I sure hope that counts!!
-
Tarenee yes I would count it. Your off the couch. Doesn't that mean a lot??? Yup u did good. Please watch arms with that load of work. Take frequent arm elevation breaks. Drink tons water. Raise arm in air like your eager to answer the teacher and pump fist slowly 25 times throughout day. Wear le garments.
Ok got exercise devil off my back. Carried him around for 45 min then dumped him off with the full doggy bag. Feeling SMUG because that was extra weight on my back and it was a real workout. ;
-
Hello all,
Is it hot where you live? It's hot and dry but maybe some rain and cooler (80s) later this week. So I still do my 2 miles, just sweatier!
-
TaRenee - I'd say you get double points for accomplishing something while exercising. But Hugz's tips are good.
Flowergal - where are you? I'm in Houston so YES it is very hot & very humid.
Hugz - did you really carry a full bag of dog food? Wow.
Made my Silver Sneakers class today. The teacher was on hyper/warp. It's the first time ever that I've had to slow down & do some of the reps sitting down.
-
minus. Had to laugh at your dog food comment. No I meant I carried the exercise devil ( the devil that bothers you until you exercise) then leaves once I exercise.I dumped that devil right into trash with the doggy doo bag. Lol. Yah got the exercise off my back early this morn. Ha
Minus your pool teacher just realized since pool was closed you need to double up on catching up missed pool time. She's like the exercise devil herself!!!
Humid here. Sucks. Joints hate it.
-
So my SMUG today is more like sweaty. 35 minutes of walking as my indoor pool remains closed. Tomorrow is opening day kick off with all the educational staff I work with, so the official close of summer for me. I start my 29th year where I work. I feel so blessed to have had all these years in spite of 3 cancers
-
laurel wow sch starts early for you. Sounds like you love your job. I stayed at mine 25 years and loved everyday. But now that pension check comes that's pretty good too. The first two years retirement I thought I'd go back pt. But now I wouldn't dream of it unless i had to.
Yup everyone talking about sweat and humidity. It makes me get up earlier to get done but tomorrow is gym day so AC here we come.
Everyone doing well. Time is ticking and we're rocking this challenge! All so smugish here!
-
Minus2 I'm in Memphis tn so it's always muggy but worse when it rains which it is doing today so only walked a mile under my umbrella in the rain. I may get the WII out ,dust it off and do a little yoga or aerobics on it.
have a good week all.
