I read in a magazine yesterday (the new issue of Oprah) that flip-flops cause little tears in your foot. They had a podiatrist who said she'd seen people all last summer with plantar fasciitis caused by them.
-
KariLynn,
You look so adorable in your hat! And you look so thinnnnn!
I have gotten to the point that I feel weird if I don't wear shoes now around the house. My Birkie slip ons are the best. -
Kari,
Another cool picture. Great photog. Great subject. You're looking good; hope you feel as good as you look. -
Kari--
I like the new photo. You really have a pretty face!
peace,

Thanks.
171.
Plan for next weeks weigh in - DO NOT go to Chili's the night before and have a bacon cheeseburger, fries and cheesecake. (I did drink water...) LOL! -
You did have a big meal! We went for a birthday dinner and I had the best steak with blue cheese on top I've ever had. It was so tender...
But you're headed in the right direction. -
Well ladies, how is everyone doing especially during this flu season? I was only able to go to Curves once this week since I got the "cold" flu symptoms and pretty weak. Weight is staying about the same though. Still lost 7.5 pounds since Jan 2, 2007, 25 more pounds to go by April.
Good Luck all.
Judy -
The scale has been slipping up on me so I've been back to a strict plan. Those little bites of this and that add up!
-
I've done too much eating on vacation! And I really need to slim down for a wedding in only 2 weeks. I don't have many dresses or skirts that flow when dancing and I'll have to go on a vegetable and green salad diet to fit into one of those! And I'm cutting out any after dinner snacks like popcorn.
-
wow judy thats great, what are you doing?
I went off my strickness while going through the diep but never did anything real bad like fast food.
as of my weigh in this morning i've lost 103 lbs,i have stage 2 in march .
keep up the good work judy.

Ginger...try substituting something with protein after dinner instead...I use a trainer and he pointed out that we use carbs for energy and protein for repair...if we take in carbs before going to bed it will not be used while we sleep (and I assume just sits on my hips instead!)...whereas protein is used to repair cells etc while we sleep. And I swear I lose weight much more consistently if I do it that way...no carbs after 7pm; 1/2 cut low fat cottage cheese instead.
-
HUmmmm, I'm now imagining popcorn sitting on my hips. Maybe that's enough to keep me away!!! I take in most of my protein with dinner and sometimes stick a small bit of leftover chicken or fish on my lunch salads. Seems to keep me from getting hungry better than just veggies alone. (Thinking "popcorn hips"!!)
-
Hi Ladies ~
Louanne ~ I calorie count (12-1300 Max per day)
Lost a total now of 9 pounds since 1/2/07.
Good Luck everyone and keep up the good work.
Judy -
Ginger...your visions of popcorn hips helped me make it through my cottage cheese tonight! Can you tell cottage cheese is not my favorite thing? Thanks for the giggle!
Cait, who is now going to bed and hopefully sleep through the hunger pangs and NOT dream of chocolate layer cakes! -
Cait, I'd have trouble with cottage cheese as a snack!! Yes, I think I'll keep popcorn hips in mind --maybe I'll need to think of brownie hips, ice cream hips, etc. Popcorn creates the best vision, though!!
Judy, great job. At your current loss rate, you'll be where you want to be in April. With the 1200-1300 calorie limit do you feel hungry a lot? What's your secret to keeping up the low intake? -
I like that, "popcorn" hips. Call out the spandex panties!
-
"Popcorn" hips gave me a good laugh. Maybe it's not cellulite on my hips, it's popcorn. That's why all those creams I've been using don't work. lol.
-
Okay, so we need to invent an anti popcorn hip cream instead of cellulite cream...we'll all make a fortune! I stay with 1500 cal. without a lot of hunger by sticking religiously to only eating what is healthy...I know that sounds boring, but I just keep telling myself that it won't be forever...just another 20#. Trainer insists on 40% carb; 30% protein; 30% fat; 25 grams of fiber...I use a program called Fitday to track it otherwise I'd go nuts trying to figure it all out! And the only way I can eat cottage cheese is by liberally sprinkling it with Lawry's seasoned salt...don't tell my trainer...it's FULL of sodium!

Good Evening Ladies ~
I lost my post after writing it. So here goes what I can remember of it:
Cait ~ Cottage Cheese does not even appeal to me anymore since I went on the Dr. Stillsman Diet several years ago and the ONLY things I liked on it was the cottage cheese and eggs. I had my fill of it.
Louann ~ My secret for almost non-existent hunger is to eat several small meals practically all day long. Example:
Work Day: Breakfast: 8:00 - Breakfast Bar w/Milk in it (160 Cal), 9:30 or 10:00 - 3 oz Mixed Melon or Apple
Lunch: 11:30 or 12:00 - Usually a Low Cal frozen Meal (320 Calories or Less) with a Coke Zero, 1:30 or 2:00 - 3 oz Mixed Melon, 3:30 - 2 Hershey Kisses (Yep, that satisfies me) 7:00 - Dinner - Now mostly soups & salads being so cold, but always a "Big Salad" with ONLY 2 TBLSP Fat Free 1000 Island Dressing (45 Calories, Lettuce 25 cal 2 cups), 9:00 - 2 cookies or small ice cream cone
Ginger ~ I love it Popcorn Hips, now that is a Classic. I think I will use that one too especially in Hawaii.
Great Low Cal Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner: Rice Cake, lots of mustard, low cal deli meat and pinch of Shredded Parmesan Cheese. Put in microwave for no more than 22 seconds (listen for crackling-they burn FAST!) Delicious!
Question: Do most of you weigh yourselves daily, weekly, monthly or how? I used to weigh once a week but found that I can stay on track by weighing myself daily.
Take care all, keep up the good work.
Hugs,
Judy -
Hi Judy...I agree with the cottage cheese...it's getting old fast...I just keep saying, "this isn't forever, this isn't forever!" And to answer your question: I also used to weigh only weekly...now I also do it daily...agree, keeps me on track...although sometimes when I know I've eaten exactly what I should and that blasted scale pops up there, it is frustrating, depressing and just WRONG!
Cait, with bowl of cottage cheese in hand! -
I don't like cottage cheese. I felt for the calcium that skim milk was a better "buy". I like to warm that and have it at night, helps me sleep better.
I weigh myself every day. It's a habit from way back. You can really see how eating out impacts you when you get on the scale and see it rise for a couple of days afterwards. I find I do well during the week when I'm brown-bagging but slip on weekends.
I have 2-3 snacks though the day. If I don't bring them then I'm eating whatever is out in the xerox room or getting a treat when I go outside at lunchtime. It works out better for me to travel with an apple/orange/carrots. If I have them I'll eat them. I cut the apple up and peal the orange ahead of time so it's easy to eat them when I think I'm hungry. -
Wish I'd had the "popcorn hips" vision when I was in hawaii a couple of weeks ago. All in all I didn't do bad--the pineapple is the best!!!
I've read that people do better losing or maintaining a healthy weight if they weigh every day. I do and find the same thing that Rose mentioned. It's also true with the salt intake--my bp is always higher after eating out. We don't realize what salt is added at restaurants. But that doesn't stop me from eating out on weekends. Unfortunately, even my homemade salads are salty because of the dressings! Hard to get around salt. (Wasn't that like money in some ancient time period?)
I do better at work if I have those little carrots in the frig--then I have more willpower vs. the everpresent candy that people bring us. -
There are several candy dishes where I am.
I try to visualize all those unwashed hands picking through them and getting germs on the candies. Why would I want to eat that? I ignore the fact most of it is wrapped, the germs are still on the tinfoil! -
Good one Rose! I'm just getting over a bad upper respiratory infection, so the "germy" vision will definitely stick with me!
-
Rose,
You definitly have a point. When my Lat flap was cancelled because I was fighting off a cold, I think that I got the germs from eating M&M's at a house that I was cleaning for my cleaning service. There are 2 boys in that house who are always sick, but my lust for chocolate made me forget about that.
But after having my surgery cancelled did help to cure me of eating UNwrapped candy. But I can't get my mind to think that there are germs on wrapped chocolate !
And there also was a report on TV about how many germs that peanuts in a bowl in a bar had. All of those people reaching in with germy hands! Yuck.
I just have to work on the germy wrapper part! I am getting pretty good at unwrapping Hershey kisses and popping them into my mouth! -
Hi ladies, This is my first post on this thread. I've been browsing it for a while and think I'm ready to commit to some more weight loss, & I think this forum is great for helping.
Me and my weight so far:
I've lost about 35 pounds - was 185 and now 150. Some before, some after the 'diagnosis'. I'm about 5'5, and I'd like to lose about 20 more ultimately. The majority of the weight i have on me now is right smack dab in my 'middle' -- the unhealthiest possible area according to everyone.
I've been in the low 150's for about 5 months, so that's good, I know. Tho I don't want to lose weight quickly, I'm thinking I might speed it up 'just a bit' more than 3 pounds in 5 months, lol.
My next goal is to hit 140 or close. So here's to that.
Diet - I'm not really on one and don't plan on it. Just eating lots healthier than ever, mild exercise -- so I'm hoping to just improve what i'm already doing a bit.
Other background - 48 years old, diagnosed in April 06, early stage. Had a mastectomy without recon, no chemo, and am now on tamoxifen.
Looking forward to chatting with everyone on this great thread and getting tips and inspiration.
Dawn -
Nice to meet you Dawn!
I'm about 5'5" and kind of around your goal weight (depends).
I think you can do it because you've already accomplished a lot.
Sometimes to get off a plateau you have to change things around dramatically to un-seat your self. Can you fit a bit more exercise into your life? Or trade a "mild" exercise day for something a step up on the intensity?
I like to eat so I'd rather be a bit more active than eat less. -
Hi, Dawn,
That 35 pounds you've already lost says a lot. Way to go! The first pounds off are not as hard to ditch as the last pounds, so you could expect a slow down. Stepping up the exercise and continuing on the healthy foods seems like the key to me.
I've never wanted to go at the big diet either because if it's something I can't keep up, then why bother. ANd now we hear that that leads to yoyo dieting and more weight with the metabolic change. Slow but sure--that's a good plan!
Keep up the good work. -
Hi Rose and Ginger, Thanks so much for your encouraging words. I agree - slow but sure is it, but yes, suppose I could step up the exercise as you suggest Rose. Must definitely hit the health club this weekend (if the snow ever stops).
-
I'd also look for ways to integrate activity into your life apart from the gym. Then it doesn't depend on getting to the gym.
Can you park further away and walk, or take the bus some days? Stairs instead of elevators? Sometimes striving for the 10,000 steps a day can help. It doesn't have to be sweaty, just motion.
