biopsy scheduled
I have a biopsy scheduled on Wednesday and I am terrified. I am 51 years old and had an abnormal mammogram last Monday. on Friday they sent me to get a digital screening. my right breast has grouped calcifications within the upper quadrant they extend over 4x3.5 cm area. they vary in size and shape with rounded and amorphous forms. they are suspicious for malignancy. they also stated that the BI-RAD was category 4.I am terrified that this will be cancerous. how do I make it thru the next few days/ weeks not knowing. has anyone had this results? what are the chances it is cancerous?

I don’t have a magic answer for you, but I’m right there with you! Boards 4 areas in both for me, and I have to wait a whole week for biopsies. This happened to me last year too. The waiting is horrible. A million times a day I go from totally fine, go about my business like nothing is wrong, and then I find my self obsessively thinking or google. Try staying busy, exercising, wine? Lol. I haven’t found a perfect solution, but you’re not alone! Hang in there. Worrying wont change a thing
-
I think the waiting is the worst. You have a bit of very scary information, no answers, and no plan of attack. Bleah!
On average, tumors that are deemed BIRADs4 have an 80%chance of being BENIGN, so hold in to that. There are a lot of women who have come here with BIRADs4 tumors that turned out benign. Most of them never post here again once they get the good news. They are off living their lives, rather than hanging around a breast cancer board. So, most of your replies will naturally be from women who do have cancer. Don't let that lead you to believe that you will have cancer, as well.
Keep your hands busy while you wait for results. Try not to Google too much--everything "breast" leads here. Hopefully, you will be in the 80% who had a bad scare, but went on to live their normal life. And if you are in the 20%, we'll be here to catch you when you fall.

I am in the same boat right now. I have cluster of pleomorphic calcifications in left breast, upper outer. I am totally obsessed right now. Waiting for biopsy on the 18th. I want to go just one hour without thinking about it! 😩
-
I'm in the same boat. Calcification cluster in right breast. Was horrified to find out that they will put a metal titanium clip inside the breast at the biopsy site for future location. Indefinitely!!!? I did some research. Google:
MAUDE Adverse Event Report: JOHNSON AND JOHNSON, ETHICON DIVISION TITANIUM BREAST CLIP
I don't think I want this metal clip put inside of me.
-
Research: Maude Adverse Event Report, Johnson and Johnson Ethicon division Titanium Breast clip.
I suggest you read this about insertions of Titanium Breast clips at biopsy site. It has me concerned. I too have calcifications, but in my right breast. I read my biopsy procedure and was alarmed about the Metal Titanium clip they will insert and will stay in your body indefinitely for them to re locate biopsy site. I don't think I want that in me after reading possible adverse reactions.
-
It is EXTREMELY rare to have a reaction to titanium. Do you hear of people having to have their artificial hips or knees or bone screws or plates removed because of reactions? I'd be a lot more worried about having the same spot biopsied over & over through the years because it isn't marked, or worse, having to have a subsequent surgical biopsy when the area to be removed hasn't been identified by marker so the surgeon doesn't get the right place. They can't just cut you open & see it- it usually looks just like the surrounding tissue.
-
I also have grouped calcifications in my right breast, increased in number from previous mammograms. I was BIRADS3, but now that they’ve increased it’s suspicious and they are not even giving me a BIRADS rating. I’m having a stereotactic core needle biopsy tomorrow, and I’ve waited 3 weeks to get it done due to scheduling availability. I’m 41, wife and mother of 2 beautiful girls, and am an RN. I’ve had a lot of time to go between freaking out with certainty that I have cancer, to 99% sure it’s nothing. They tell me my results will take about 2 days, which means hopefully by next Tuesday since the weekend doesn’t count. I’m guessing that phase of waiting is really going to suck. Hoping I’m in the lucky 80% benign cases, and for the moment I’m feeling pretty positive. This organization has been a wonderful resource and source of support, I’m so glad to have found it

I don't understand how there could be a breast radiology report "without even giving a Bi-Rads rating." They always have a rating. If the report doesn't have it it is incomplete

Mary, I too am scheduled for a biopsy. Mine is next Friday. Like you, I'm terrified. I had a biopsy 7 years ago and was diagnosed with DCIS, had a lumpectomy & 6 weeks of radiation. My experience with the biopsy wasn't a good one, so my anxiety level is through the roof! I'm going to the hospital to have this one done so I'm hoping things will be better. The waiting for the biopsy, worrying about the results, etc. etc. are driving me crazy! I can't sleep, have no appetite and want to cry all the time. I'm trying so hard to keep my chin up. I came to this site for reassurance and hoping maybe I can help someone in some way. Thanks everyone for letting me vent.
-
I started to freak out a little and called another bs to try to get in sooner. The waiting is driving me crazy! I either don’t eat or binge. I’ve also been very short on patience. 😩 I can’t wait until this is done—whatever the results are—I just want to know. So happy to hear from others going through the same thing!
-
You're right Kim - the waiting is horrible! The first place I called couldn't take me until May 2! I could not have waited that long. Thank goodness the hospital was able to take me next Friday! The roller coaster of emotions is exhausting. Trying to stay as positive as I can though. Hang in there! We will get through this.
-
MelissaDallas, it was a rating of 0, further testing needed.
-
Okay, a zero is a rating. More testing required
-
Jeri64, so glad you got in before May 2! That would have been an agonizing wait! I have calmed down some... I stopped looking on all other websites but this one. (Which was really hard to do).
I figure worrying is not going to change anything for good or bad, so I’m trying to find some peace. I downloaded an app for meditation to help fall asleep when my brain starts to work overtime.
Please keep me posted on how you make out Friday!!
-
Kimi89, I've also stopped looking at other websites besides this one. I'm finding so much comfort on this site. I did good this weekend. Kept very busy so I didn't have time to worry. Hanging in there as best as I can & hope you are too. I'll definitely let you know how it goes but plz let me know how everything goes for you too on Wednesday. Sending positive thoughts your way. Hoping you get some sleep. I know how hard it is when your brain starts working overtime in the middle of the night.
-
Kimi89, thinking about you today & sending good thoughts and prayers!
-
Hi Kimi89, just checking to see how you are & how it all went today? Hoping you’re doing good
-
aw. Thank you. It was a very emotional day. They weren't going to do it... they wanted to schedule more images,(compression mammogram and ultra sound) THEN the biopsy. 😩 (another week or more of waiting).
Of course I was upset and I sort of freaked out (I haven’t cried yet at all about what is going on..it all came out right then and there) When they realized how upset I was, they got it all done this afternoon
Honestly, I didn’t think the biopsy was bad at all. I barely felt anything at all...just some pressure. Hope it goes as well for you Friday.
I have my appointment next Wednesday to get results.
I will be thinking of you Friday!
-
Aww...I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I'm glad they did it all yesterday. It wouldn't have been fair to make you wait any longer. Please keep me posted. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts too. I really appreciate it. I think of you often as well. I'll check in on you again soon. In the meantime, I'm ready to get this biopsy over with! So tired of thinking about it & worrying. Take care & keep yourself busy with things you like to do.
-
good luck tomorrow. I hope is goes as smoothly for you. It is such a relief to get it over with. Prayers for good results!
-
Thanks Kimi89. Appointment is at 10:00. Ready for it to be over
-
Kimi89, Biopsy went fine! Better than expected. Results hopefully by next Wednesday. Hope you’re doing good
-
glad it went well!! We may get results on the same day! Fingers crossed and lots of prayers! So nice to have someone who completelyunderstands.
-
For sure! It helps so much to “talk” to you. Lots & lots of prayers! Let’s have a good weekend. We deserve it! Talk soon

Hello. This is actually my first ever post to any kind of board or community but I have been reading and feel supported already by comments not even directed at me. So here I go: I am a 43 year old who is scheduled for a biopsy May 2. I tried to get in sooner but I am having two areas biopsied so they need a longer block of time. I went in for a routine mammogram early April and was told that i needed to return for a magnified mammogram of an area on my right breast. Had the second mammogram April 17 and met with the radiologist who explained that she saw fine pleomorphic calcifications with a linear distribution about 4.5 cm long. Birads 4c. She said that she recommends biopsy of the area at the forward and end of the distribution. Hence the two biopsies. I understand statistics and it could all be benign but im still worried.

Welcome Moonrabbit59! This site is incredible! So much support & good info. I totally understand how you’re feeling. The waiting is the worst part. Try to keep as busy as you can. While I was waiting for my biopsy, I did things around the house, read, walked, shopped ~ anything to keep my mind busy. And come to this site anytime. We’re all here to support each other. Sending good thoughts & hugs your way! You’ll get through this

Hi, I too am waiting on my biopsy scheduled for April 30th. I am so scared for the results. Went in for US and mammogram 2 days ago. Radiologist found a solid mass in my left breast, upper outer quadrant as well as swollen lymph node in armpit. Both showed up white in images and he wants to make sure it isn’t cancer that is spreading. I’m only 34 years and a mother to an 18 yr old, 16 yr old and a 1 yr old. Im so worried and can’t stand the waiting. Praying for the best for myself and everyone else in this situation.
-
thanks jeri64! That’s exactly my plan! And I’ll be thinking of you rhiannon061... I also have two teenagers and a toddler. Prayers for you
-
hi moonrabbit and Rhiannon! So glad you both posted. There is so much support here, and it is so nice to have people who know EXACTLY what you are going through. I had my biopsy Wednesday, and honestly, waiting two weeks to get it was the worst part for me. It was driving my out of my mind. Since the biopsy was done, I have felt much better. Like Jeri64 said, try to keep busy and TRY not read too much on google. (I know, easier said than done!) Sending positive thoughts!! 😘

Thinking of all you ladies this week, and hoping for B9 results. Keep yourself as distracted as you can
