Ouch Paulette keep moisturizing that just think one more to go & your done!!!!! You shall ring that bell & we shall cheer you on. Woot woot woot so exciting. I know my skin does not look that bad in the pic I posed on our Dec rads group but trust me my under arm & nipple area got the worst & under my arm it's starting to peel already.
Welcome Chips being scared is natural but your in a great place here & we shall cheer you on. Everything will be okay & you shall kick the big C in the butt!!! Hugs
Ladies your all awesome warriors & continue to kick butt. Keep moisturizing & taking care of yourselves. Have a great skin relaxing weekend & wishing you all a minimal SE week of rads next week 😊

Thank you ladies for the warm welcome.I hate to be such a "Scaredy-cat" suddenly after being so strong & positive going through all the other stuff.Maybe it's normal to be tired after going through all the things I've been through.
I would like to ask a question: Is there a different sound or light when they zap you with the radiation? Will I feel any different after I leave from my treatment or is it just like getting an x-ray?
Thank you.......Dianne

Aww VL22- I probably would have cried too! I hope you feel better about it by now.
Congrats to all who are done and progressing through!!
I've only had 3 so far. I'm pink, simply and swollen and my nipple is pretty sensitive already. I've felt yuck but having the weekend off helped with that but not my boob. I see the Rad Onc Tue so hopefully she can recommend something to help. I've got 13 regular and 5 boosts to go. I'm very nervous how my skin will hold up. I've been moisturising, wearing soft cotton bras and drinking lots of water. My appetite has been low and I've lost a bit of weight. I'm hoping to regain some of it by eating more. It's hard as I've felt a bit nauseous. Hubby said he has too so it could be a tummy bug. I'm hoping the weight loss doesn't screw up my planning too much. You all seem to have done so well. I feel like a Rads failure lol.
-
Dianne, each machine should be different as I said before. I can hear the zapping and I even count my zaps. So,e of us will open their eyes and some closed their eyes. For me I actually open my eyes.
When you leave you might not feel anything, however, you will feel the heat and skin changed after few treatments. I hope i answered your questions.
-
Thanks PauleteeK for the quick response. I hope I don't have all the problems that Katiejane talked about in her post before yours.I need to remember that everyone is different & that there are a lot of bugs going around & maybe as she said that part of her symptoms may be tummy bug. Thanks for being there....Dianne

Dianne, it has been interesting to see how different rads has been for each of us. I suppose it really depends on your cancer center and the technology they use, your surgery (seems treatment is different for MX vs lumpectomy), and their treatment protocols. I felt nothing during rads. Yes after awhile you'll getvred, itchy and your breast will feel hot. But again some of us had it worse than others. This is a great group to ask questions. It will be over before you know it!
-
Dianne, I have lost some appetite on week 3 on, just a little bit, not as bad as chemo time. However appetite came back now, it was just 2-3 weeks long. As We all said everyone are different, you may not have that problem.
Oh yea, my boob was tender and nipple is very sensitive, let your RO knows he / she gives you telfa pad it helps a lot.
-
Thanks OCDAmy, for the encouragement !
-
PauletteK,what is a telfa pad?
-
Chips, I think everyone is nervous to start but as you can see we all have different experiences for sure. I'll have 13 of 20 tomorrow and I'm feeling a little fatigue but mostly it swelling, tightness, redness of the breast. At this point it's more annoying than painful but I just keep using the lotion my RO prescribed and wearing comfortable, soft bras (or brasless as much as possible feels good to me).
The machine my RO uses has bright lights so I can't watch really, I use a sleep mask so my eyes don't water. My treatment is two zaps, one on each side on the breast, each about 20 seconds long. Then I'm up and out of there, not too bad. It's a bit of a pain to have to drive there every day and actually I'm more worried about being around sick people, what with the flu being so bad right now.
Good luck and I'm sure you'll do great!
-
Telfa pads are thin pads that have a non-adhesive film on them. I used them to keep the aquaphor on and not ruin my clothes. They stick to the aquaphor but come right off gently. My RO nurse gave me a bunch.
-
Amy, I need to ask for more this telfa pad tomorrow so I have enough for next few weeks. I wonder how long this redness burns will last? How’s your skin now?
Dianne, you got the answer for telfa pad, don’t worry too much we all do it and so do you.
-
Paulette, my skin is better. I have two areas that got dry and patchy. I keep putting aquaphor on those areas and then then the lotion my RO gave me on rest. Still peeling in a few spots and its red where it peels. Still not wearing a bra because it runs too much. I feel much better, still a little fatigued. Ready to celebrate with you tomorrow!
-
Amy, we will do our happy dance tomorrow!! You will back to normal very soon.
-
Paulette tomm is your last day woot woot woot i am sure you must be over the moon with excitement!!!!! We shall be cheering you on when you ring that bell. With respects to skin i am not getting any more red however i am starting to peel. My underarm is the worst as that is where i had my boosts. I did a saline soak as it was a bit raw & saw purple elephants fly from the burning sensation so i will stick to the cream lol. My nipple is not so bad now, it was sore during rads but once it started to peel its not as tender as my under arm. My collarbone is a bit red & had a little bump i am am thinking that will dry up & start to peel too. Also once your hair starts to grow back you have to show us your cute pixie cut, your hair shall get like mine soon & you will be rocking the chemo curls like me - that goes for Amy too as i know you will be rocking the chemo curls too
Dianne everyone's rads journey is different. Some people's skin gets more affected than others. Once you have gone to get it done a few times you will start to feel a bit more comfortable & shall be counting down the days till your done & we shall be cheering you on too. I personally would close my eyes & either count the zaps or just listen to the music. You shall be okay just like all the other amazing ladies on this thread. Just remember keep moisturizing as the rads progress your skin will get more tender so you want to make sure you keep it moisturized.
Ladies wishing you all an amazing rads week next week & hope no machines go down or your delayed another day in your kick C in the butt battle!!!!!!!
-

Paulette, The BIG finale! WOOHOO! Doing jazz hands for you! I would do heel clicks, but I'm afraid I would hurt myself.
Chips, I just finished 6/33 today, and I don't feel anything. When I thought I felt something, it was the covered-up, good breast, so that couldn't have been it.
I prefer to just close my eyes. I occasionally peek when I feel the table move or the contraption overhead move. They took more images today, but I just hold still and pray and trust this is all working for my benefit.
No pink or redness so far, though my underarm felt a tad warm on the drive home. I haven't looked at it yet. Forging on!
-
28/30 done, Yahoo Paulette the big finale for you girlfriend! check in when you can
Sending healing vibes to everyone beginning this week of rads.
-
congrats Paulette!! So excited for you to be done with this treatment!!
-
Thank you ladies, I cried on the radiation bed when I was getting my last zap! This rough journey is finally over, sometime I couldn’t believe this is real.
I need to thanks God and all of your supports. ❤️ 💕 all of you. I will be here cheering everyone to the finish line.
-
Gigibee ..... let’s dance when you are done, I’m waiting for you at the finish line 🏁
We will kick the C together !!
-
Paulette I’m coming, wait for me! So happy for you to be done !!
-
Congrats Paulette!!!! So happy for you!!! It must be an awesome feeling.
I've had treatment 5. I'm feeling great but my breast is more dimply and has ridges all on the underside. I saw the RO registry today and he has no idea why I am pink and swollen. Lol. I'll add him to the list of people that have no idea what's going on with my breast. He didn't think it was an infection but could see a small hotspot on my scan. He suggested I go back to the physio to get some more drainage massage done so I've booked that in. I also am stepping up the self massage at his suggestion so I don't get hardness. I'm hoping my breast behaves from here on in.
