Mammogram after being NED for two years?

My MO told me today that if I continue to be NED we should look at doing a mammogram. We have not done one since I was diagnosed metastatic. She explained she does not usually do them once someone is metastatic but since I have been NED for awhile we should look to do one. I asked why? She said so we could treat it if something is found. I am confused by this. Has anyone else had this experience?

I would think that any Ct scan or pet scan that you would have as part of the maintenance of being stage four. Would pick it up. Most oncs sway back and forth between three and six months depending on how long things have been stable. I would just simply ask her ? I haven't even heard the word mammogram since it was stage four. All the scans we go through , isn't that why? To detect other things as well! I would inquire more about that to her. ~M~ my best to you!

I was told no on the mammo, CTs that were routinely done would catch activity much earlier (I was NED for 6 years

I just had a mammogram done but that was after a PET showed some activity in the breast. I was NEAD for 3 months and the PET shows some activity so we did a mammogram and ultrasound to get more detailed info. I was previously told that a CT will not show breast tumors. I was getting CTs to track the liver but that cleared up for 3 months. The PET only showed breast issues, liver is still clear, so she wanted better imaging of the breast and mammogram or MRI are the best way to do that.

My MO believes that my regular CT/PET scans are enough right now and I don't need a mammo of my remaining breast. I've been NED for 2.5 years.

Thank you everyone for responding. I wonder why some docs are saying the cat will pick it up but our docs think differently I guess eicats. I do not get Pets, just CTs.
