Can the original port site be reused?

I had the first port inserted back in 2014.

It was removed after I completed the year of Herceptin..so it's been two years since removal.

Now I'm scheduled for another port surgery in two days.

When I asked about whether it'll be on the same side as before, my MO said whichever side would be my preference.

Does anyone here have their port placed on the same side as before? If so, are you having any problems with scar tissue, or accessing it?

Thanks.

I had my port removed after I finished chemo for my first diagnosis. When dx’d with a recurrence four years later my surgeon put it in the same spot. I’ve had it almost 2 years now, never had a problem with scarring or pain with access.

Same here. I had my second port put in the same spot (same scar) 5 months after the first one was removed! No issues to date (knock on wood ;-) )

The port is in and everything went smoothly ( moreso than the first time)..It is in the original place.

The pain is manageable..Phew! what a relief to have this over with!

I was surprised to learn that ports have changed quite a bit in the last four years since I had that first one.

Good to know that technology is moving forward like that..Now if only they would find that cure!
