Sas, Wicklow is on the east coast of Ireland, below Dublin.

We have been very fortunate during the storm, which is still passing up through the country. The worst is about past us now though we can expect severe gusts for another 2 hours or so. It is still pretty bleak outside. However we are so lucky compared to many - one quarter of the population is without electricity. We have electricity even though several part of our town are out. LIke I say, we are very fortunate. All schools remaining closed tomorrow while routes are cleared and school damage assessed. Some will be closed longer due to damage. DH's polytunnel for tomatoes looks a bit damaged and we were due to have an interview tomorrow morning at a prospective secondary school for DD, so think that will be postponed but will need to get hold of someone to confirm that if they don't contact us. These are absolutely miniscule problems on a day when people have seen roofs ripped off buildings, power and water out etc. Damage estimated to be 1.5 billion. 3 irreplaceaple people have died, 2 in cars which had trees fall on them and 1 trying to chainsaw a fallen tree. RIP. National advice was stay off the roads, all non essential work places closed. Do not attempt to move fallen trees, call and report them etc etc however I suppose no-one ever thinks it will happen to them. so very sad for their families. Can only count our blessings.

Sas - we once lived where we had flash flood possibilities. I used to pack coolers and keep them in the Suburban, panties, water, meds, food, ready to spend the night on the roadside w the family and our pets too. Tornadoes had to be prepped for in a different way, being home w no electric, no roof maybe, first aide necessary and we were it for emergencies. And we lived on a mountainside once 1/2 mi up w no real neighbors - had to be prepared for snow and no electric. But there on mountain we had a blizzard and I was there w pets and DD, Hubby still lived in IN and traveled back and forth as did I. The blizzard led me to deal w digging heavy snow, hauling extra wood, water and freezing food in drifts on deck, etc. I got a wedge fracture in back, thought it was a heart attack but wasn't had to be rescued by Hubby and DBIL - took all of us back to IN to my dad's where Hubby stayed since my mom had passed, keeping him company. Could not be prepared for the wedge fracture, but all else, we did pretty well DD and I. Here on ridge now it is all the above but not flash floods, but add the Derecho straight line winds and I wonder about earthquake being we are possibly on a direct fault line in moraines. But now I am just not prepared for anything and I need to be more than ever. Your posts inspire me and make me think. Eyes not glazed.

Feline - looks like you lost power after all or went to bed? How goes it?

Smaarty - I really like the colours in the quilts, esp the second, reminds me of a dress I sewed in jr high.

Dodged a bullet today - canceled bronch told them I am being treated for walking pneumonia and getting better. Turns out the pulmonologist was indeed looking at an old PET CT from May. I spoke to radiologist who read the PET CT from Oct 2 and he said lung clear, no node, pneumonitis clearing well, no collapsed lobes. He said the bronchial tube needs to be un-narrowed I am assuming w laser surgery - and agreed that esp since I have to be put under that it would be best to just do it and not go in for a look-see, no sense being under twice. Pulmonologist #1 has bit the dust.

Mama Ray, The nice thing about quilting is that you're sewing straight lines. Or at least you are for the simple quilts. I haven't tackled the kind Smaarty does.

Sas Met Éireann (the national metereology body) observed mean wind speeds of 128km/h (80 m/ph) with gusts of up to 156km/h (97 m/ph). The fastest gust recorded was 191km/h (118 m/ph) at Fastnet Rock in Cork.

Previous records held for gusts were joint record holders 1961 and 1945, so it's been a while since there was a new champion! As I was not alive for either of those am hoping reigning champion 2017 is not going to be overtaken during my lifetime!

Feline, We can get some awful wind storms here. Once there was one on Thanksgiving. It took out electricity for thousands of people who were half way thru cooking the turkey. Lots of ingenious ways to finish it off. The same storm blew away the Hood Canal bridge. It connects the main land to a peninsula and is 7,867 feet long (about 1.4 miles). And it's not the first storm to blow away a bridge. Right now they're warning of a fairly mild windstorm this week. Dangerous mostly because the trees still have leaves which makes them more likely to lose branches or fall over. Trees here seem to have shallow roots. Where I grew up, it's very dry and trees have to go way down to get water. I don't remember any ever blowing over there.

Sas - DD is on the east shore in northern UK. Fine there. The back healed but I couldn't drive or lift a small can of coffee for months. We were fortunate on mountain that we had a natural fed spring for water, never froze, of course pipes could freeze. Woodburner that worked well and we could cook on or in, a lot of wood, deck of snow to keep food frozen. DD and I were fortunate too to get into PA just before blizzard started, picked up dogs from kennel, got home and it was already snowing. You hitched from FL to Ohio? In a blizzard?!

Slept through night again. 10 1/2 hours sleep. Makes up for night before coughing until 5:30 passing out then up atn hour then asleep until noon. Hate nights like that. Looking forward to more peaceful nights.

The hemp oil I ordered arrived. Started day dose today and will use the nightime later. Nightime is only 15 mg cannibol plus 5 mg melatonin. Taste is really decent. But it is not raw, I prefer raw since it is stronger and had CBD and CBDa. Complementary therapy of my choice.

My DS internet has been out two days, entire area from tower down, she called me she is loosing it w withdrawal from her competitive games that are only online.

Trying typing w keyboard on a big keyboard pad balanced across stomach/table so muscles in r shoulder do not get to coughing like usual. Seems to help. Commenting more later.

Making a roast w veggies to turn to veggie beef soup for when we get home after liver biopsy Friday. Tomorrow is leftovers but not the gourmet chicken noodle-butternut squash-mushroom soup, that is trashed. Sorry soup.

Junie let us know about that movie. Right now I am plowing through a bucket list of movies never watched. On 4th season of Downton Abbey.

MammaRay - I cannot give the pulmonologist any credit, I figure it out intuitively I suppose, everything in me said it was the wrong scan and do not go through w bronch this time.

Ms. S, she will be one in December. Pulling herself up and walking with help from whatever she can hang on. If she sees a phone camera in front of her, she will start smiling. She likes to look pretty for the camera just like he mama. Ha! Can't believe little Ben is running already.
