    Intereresting article Sas, thanks.

Metereologists here say there is still a lot of unpredictablility, but they are forecasting high winds and rain for Monday. Also high seas.

Certainly hoping to get the garden furni put away for the winter on Sunday!

We do quite often get the tail end of American hurricanes over here, after they spin across the Atlantic as storms. Of course when I tease DH about this he says they originate in the Gulf of Mexico so are not American hurricanes. Nerdy

Sas - she does like it. But first the antibiotics and nasal spray in case of sinus infection and or pneumonia. If this is not stopping the cough then next Thursday when I see her it seems she is writing the rx, she said she has a lot of patients on that for various reasons. I took everything you said and she has it in my file.

Up w cough spasms, there's like a rough oval ball in my throat all covered w what feels like glue. And I cough up only saliva that won't go down. I drink water all day long and it is not enough. Mouth dry, throat dry. Feels scorched. Scleroderma is the worst - no wait - cancer is. Bought some osha cough syrup last week, will try it. But didn't help when I did try on first day. About ready to get out the codeine which I am allergic to. gah

Feelingfeline - he has a point. lol.

Blue and the antibiotics are based on what? Paintball therapy? I made that phrase decades ago. I was angry that antibiotics were being given without culture and sensitivity back up.

How the phrase Paintballl therapy applies today is that we now have the phrase Targeted therapy.

My phrase is the antithesis of targeted therapy. On a 180 degree spectrum

    Paintball therapy----------------------------------------------------------------Targeted therapy

All drugs fall in between these two.

If you apply all science regarding any drug and the reason for prescribing it, a drug has an application. That application is based on criteria. When the controls that apply are negated, ignored, not applied, then the effectiveness of the drug may or could cause that drug not to act b/c it simply isn't relevant to the application.

Well that was fun. That was the best definition I've given of Paintball therapy ever. Cool

Darn I just burned tomorrow's breakfast again. Thought the smell was from the bad outside air.

Oops too late. DD and DH just came down and asked what happened. Thought they were already in bed. I think the air index quality is worse than outside. Maybe I can open the window now.

Ms. Sas, we here in the valley are ok. Just bad air. I can't watch the news. It's too much. I don't want to think about what happened to the domestic and wild animals. I heard we had a small earthquake this afternoon near Ukiah north of us, the same fire-ravaged area....as if the people there don't have enough stress.

Feline, I got a chance to watch one of the four episodes of Firechasers. Good documentary. DH is right about the hurricanes. Ha!

MammaRay, I hope you at home in the comfort of your bed.

Blue, wonder if viscous lidocaine to numb the throats would help calm the beast.

Sas, DD2 taught me a trick for cleaning burnt pans. Boil a small amount of water over the area. Turn off the heat and add baking soda. Let stand for awhile. Works like a charm. Occasionally, I have to do it a second time, but boy it makes it a lot easier.

Oh hi Kath! Have the trees changed color where you are? I think our trees here are confused. My Japanese Maple is still green. The last few years of drought put a lot of stress on our trees here. Perfect fuel for the fire.

Feline, it was so windy the day prior to all the wild fires (Saturday) . Not sure if we had fire nearby that afternoon, but I remember the sky was hazy and dusty as I was driving home from the swim meet. It is possible that the wind brought down electric poles and power line which caused the sparks that started all these devastating fires. You and family be safe with the storm heading your way.

Tappermom, how are you guys doing down there? I forgot that you live in Southern California.

Lover - I hardly dare say it out loud but (whispers) we're fine right now. Like you, I just can't watch too much of the fire coverage as it totally stresses me out. Whenever the Santa Anas kick up, I get nervous. But it's a glorious fall day here - bright blue sky, lots of sun and the trees look calm. We have our tote box with our important papers - the cat carriers are always ready to go - and I learned in the last two evacuations that stuff is just that.

Glad you're OK. Sure wish some rain would head the way of this poor state!

Just took a sip of water from new clean glass and a fake lady bug was on rim and peed in my mouth making me spit and curse and reach for the nastiest tasting thing near me, a throat spray, and use it then a cherry lozenge. Reminds me of a story I wrote, this really teed off Hubby though. He was hot. http://www.womens-fiction.com/short-stories/gracie...

    image

LoverofLife I was going to suggest that you cut off the burned and you did. They do look do-able, I just don't know in what context. Perhaps smokey da bear potato salad.

Sas - yes, exactly and damn it. Paintball is perfectly coined. I personally call it throwing more drugs at it. Now I will use this to define your phrase, the paintball theory.

I was going to ask for the cultures and it was on the list and I forgot. But she wanted me on the strongest and it sounded good at the moment. Besides I was going to end up in hospital if untreated. I was barely walking yet again. And am feeling better today. Even navigated a store today for groceries, walker and breaks. Coughing spasms still going on. I am thinking to start Tesslon Perls in morning while I am near an ambulance station. It may help the spasms.

Well Hubby did it again. In his effort to take care of us and perhaps his effort in learning to follow directions he has once again f'ed up my craving for a certain comfort food. Chicken and noodle soup.

I know, he's a good guy and I am fortunate to have him in my corner. And I am an ungrateful bitch sometimes. But again, he does not hear or listen or communicate or remember or something.

Caramelize onions in butter and coconut oil. Add two boxes of chicken broth and one box water. Heat to boil. Add noodles. Til done. Stir in chicken already cooked. Add 2 tablespoons butter to make broth rich. Season w celtic sea salt, little garlic powder..... and serve.

He used the boxes we got at store today instead of the ones in cabinet that I told him where they were soooooo instead he used BUTTERNUT SQUASH SOUP w garlic and parsley instead of chicken broth. No seasoning. No butter. But thank goodness he did not add the garlic.

"What the hell is this colour?" I asked. Then I tasted it. Gross - oh so very gross.

So I fussed and felt sorry for myself a bit then had him add a box of broth. And it was less unpleasant, w salt actually was kind of gourmet.

Tomorrow we will add the other box of broth and make some spelt / millet flour dumplings to cook in broth.

New rule for the kitchen, do not open anything or add anything until showing them to me first.

    I know, I am a big b.

The soup will now be a gourmet creamy chicken mushroom - not adding dumplings, just another box of broth. He is a lucky man.

Reminds me of his Thanksgiving turkey f up. He was told to start it in huge electric roaster at 8am. I woke and the house smelled of roast turkey and I think it has to be NOON! and sister was due now. But no. He had started the turkey at 4am. It was now 8 am. Done turkey. But it was the best ever, tender, juicy. We called everyone to come early and have Thanksgiving brunch.

Last week, Italia sausage and pasta. I wanted only a half jar of sauce on sausages after mine wa taken out, I cannot eat the sauce except a taste on my tongue, I cough. So he doesn't use the sauce at all. But that half jar already opened was the reason for that meal. So I insisted he heat the sauce and put a little on my place, a little. And he dolloped about a cup on top of everything. So pleased w himself. His hearing aides are new and improved so I just don't know. I am personally calling the hearing aid man tomorrow.

Here's a BC rant or something I wrote a long time ago. Someone commented they liked it and I forgot I wrote it until now. Hope it doesn't offend anyone and that it does make some feel less alone. http://www.womens-fiction.com/myths/breast-cancer-...

Wierdest feeling here in Wicklow, Ireland as it is almost midnight and extremely mild and warm, barely a trace of wind yet the entire country preparing to shut down tomorrow. No schools or colleges will be open, no buses, limited trains, hospital appts and postal services cancelled. All non essential work places closed. This is all good as it will surely save lives. Ophelia supposed to make landfall in Kerry at 6am and exit Antrim around 9 pm. WE are about half way between so should get the strongest winds in the afternoon. Very glad that none of my family will have to leave home tomorrow.

hi all, been lurking and gone. First, feline, be safe. First hurricane in over 100 years! And this year they have been showing our hurricanes coming from Africa. Who knew?

Just got back from my last retreat for this year. Short distance away. Got these done

    image

    image

First one is our new opportunity quilt without the borders yet. 8 people made the stars, I put them all together. Hopefully I’m going to have help with the borders. The second one is for the president of the guild. She gets a quilt for being president.

Evie and family moved back home from CO! DGS will be living with them. Haven’t had a chance to visit them yet.

The air quality is much better. It is sad to see all the homes destroyed. Surprising that a housing development would do that. Many wineries are gone. If you like California wines, you better stock up. It’s going to be awhile before Napa is able to produce again.

ok, thought I was going to lose the post.

I see a few new people. And of course us oldies! Lover, she is growing so fast. Is she walking yet? Ben turned 1 in September. He’s a speed demon. Runs everywhere. Has been since about 11 mos. Evie will be 2 in January. Time is flying by.

It’s suppose to rain on Thursday. It’s finally beginning to feel like autumn. Have to get some leggings made this week. Don’t fit in my jeans right now. To much food, shopping, trips. Need to buckle down.

Anybody doing anything for Halloween? I’m almost done making a colonial dress for youngest GD. She and friends are going as sisters from Hamilton.

    See ya all later.

Feline, stay dry as you can. Where is Wicklow? The quietness is literally the calm before the storm. That's a nice time. Dries things out. Hope the list helps. I put 3-4 weeks of TP. That's over kill, but I live with an OCD fear. NO TP, ugh. Sears catalogs don't exist anymore.

During the days of the outhouses catalogs were a hot item.

I didn't say anything about generators. Having the several extension cords about 40-50 ft long. Mines 100ft long. The ideal is to have one cord with multiple plug ins.. Looks like Medusa. Generators should be about 25 feet from the house to avoid poisoning from the smoke. The multiple head cord allows for refrigerator, a lamp, and fan and then a toaster oven or oven. This cord is very heavy

Know where your water turn off is. and the electrical turnoff is. Electrical turnoff b/c if there is flooding this can cause trouble with fires if the hot connection gets below water.

No Generator and electric lost. Only open frig infrequently. Frigs are very well insulated and can keep food cold for 2-3 days if not opened. Water heaters are a blessing. They also, will keep heat for several days. Short showers are a blessing. It may be very humid after. A nice shower can be very comforting when things are a mess. We were with out power one time for 3 days, but we showered the whole time.

Candles are a mixed bag. I only use candles that have a hurricane lamp.. I also use the TEA lights versus a standard candle. I think it's my own quirk. Many lists will say to not use candles.

Put some water bottles in the frig. Bag up some ice. My ice maker only makes one big bag in 24 hours. Travel ice containers can hold some ice, but will melt faster than if in the freezer.

If you have any expensive meat in the freezer. Have a nice dinner today or tomorrow.

Comfort food. Enough for 24 hours. Odd thing in a blow is our appetites get very big.

I asked my English friend if she had called the 'kids' her answer "What for" She sees it as no big deal. Odd since she's been here for more that 30 years.
