Sassy,
You were a newbie in 2009 and 2010.
My 1st thread as a newbie member is now inactive............ Topic: Class of 2010.
I spend many an evening scrolling through pages on the threads............remembering oldies.
-
Teka I was a newbie in 09, but wasn't on much. Basically, 10 was when I started posting. Perhaps foobville was 09. The point being it was a disaster
-
Sassy,
Gotcha! ;o)
-
Teka ::)
Everyone, Shep told me about the announcement page that has a couple of survey's and at least one offers money to take the survey.$100.00. If you have phone numbers of anyone that would benefit and isn't posting Please, call
-
Cold is gone and I am back. Had another fight with my mom over the weekend and I was getting so stressed out over it that my hubby took my phone and told her not to call until she could be more pleasant to me before he hung up.
-
Nice to hear of DH becoming a knight in shining armor for you when you needed the help.
-
Yep. He is really being protective of me. He's tired of both our families causing problems and stress we don't need.
On a good note though last week we bought a new stove and dishwasher. Our old stove and dishwasher were here when we bought the house and dated back to 2002. They had been giving us fits lately and hubby decided it was time to buy new ones. As the installers were testing out the new dishwasher after its being installed, they discovered our old garbage disposal had gone bad, so it meant we had to get a new one too.
-
Mommie, Bless you hubby. Your mom is just not nice. My MIL was awful awful awful. I often wondered how could such an awful person produce such a nice son. Still don't understand awful people
Mamma Yay, play money.
Queenie, Shep turned me on to C-NET. I was looking at VPN's. I read a lot of the material about the particulars. Also the article listed the top 9 based on criteria. I'm thinking about purchasing VIA(Virtual Internet Access). It explained that I can use it with my internet service provider, but didn't explain how it would work with AVG. paid subscription versus free.
AVG has a program for an extra fee that supposed to increase virtual privacy network, but it wasn't in the articles top 9.
Is that enough info to be able to ask for your opinion?
-
Uh hello. Are you going to be on the roll? Ha! Going to nap first then. BBL
-
Loverly, Hahahaha, funny chickie...........did you call anyone about the survey? Play money is hanging outhere ready to be claimed.
BTW are you saying that learning about cow parlors wasn't the least bit fun?
-
I know lot's are on breaks, and lot's are lurking reading b/c they tell me this. But if no one posts then no one lurking has anything to read. I certainly have done this too. Reasons are as varied as the day is long. One of the best is it's time to move on. Either said or felt.
Sometimes it is felt. Manifested by less and less signing into BCO. I need to find an old post
-
Wrote this back in 2011-------------------------------6years ago on the Just Diagnosed -get prepared thread

This thread is about being prepared------------and will continue to be so, but add to your list about ending it.
There will come a time that you will no longer need BCO. It is different for each person. Some need to stay here b/c no one in their life gets what they have experienced.
Others need to stay b/c they have developed friendships, that are beyond dissolution, by leaving.
Others want to stay b/c they love helping others.
Why we stay or why we leave, is to each our own, we love when we are here and remember when we our gone
But always , remember you are valued, and your return is received joyously, because you LIVE
-
And don't go and delete any more of your posts, Young Lady! I sometimes go back and read old posts. It's the only tangible" thing we have of our friends we don't/didn't get to visit.
-
Ms. Sas, the survey doesn't apply to me. Mine is the opposite of what they are looking for.
Regarding melatonin, I wonder how much tart cherry or goji berries you need to eat. Oh and don't get too excited about red wine making the list. Ha!

I like to lean towards natural rather than man made.
Blue, I don't feel as guilty eating seafood As much as I like seeing your posts, I would rather not seethem in the wee hours because that usually means you are up coughing. Hope the pneumonitis loses its -itis soon.
Mommy, relationship is difficult andcan be a big source of stress.
Ooh hot flashes and sweating right now. Hope I am not prego.
-
Mia will be 1 in December. Her hair is nowlong enough for a sprout.
-
Sas: let me at least look into VPNs--I can ask my teachers as well.
-
-
GOOD MORNING, Mommy! Yup, sleepy head this morning. Got to sleep in a little bit.
The air here is so bad because of several fires in the wine country, but can't complain because our problem here is minute compared to those who are suffering there. Seventee people lost their lives and many lost their homes. At least 20,000 evacuees per news. Southern California is also dealing with their own wild fire not too far from Disneyland.
-
Hopefully, I won't scare y'all with this, but it's Wacky Wednesday.
Woke up with a headache....probably from sinus protesting the bad air we have here in the valley. The beads side works so much better. I always do things backward anyway. Or is it the world that is backward?

Lover we recently watched a 4 part Netflix documentary about Cal Fire and the impossible task they have on their hands. Perhaps you have seen it? So interesting how there are fire camp programmes for low risk prisoners who would like to train to fight fires. Obviously how hard, physical, dangerous etc the work is. There was some absolutely horrifying and stunning stop motion photography showing how fast a fire spreads taken by an artist who has special cameras that he sets up to take incremental photographs through a fire. Obviously seriously expensive equipment to withstand the destruction. I took many things away from the documentary. One was how very impressive the chief of Cal Fire was. He came across really well and explained everything he talked about really clearly. Another was that they really are facing the impossible in terms of the terrain, and that everyone thinks a firetruck will be at their house. But it is not possible to have a fire truck at every house simultaneously. Third was that the term wildfire leads you to think these are natural, (like wild animals, wild weather etc) but over 90% of these fires are started by humans, illegal camp fires, spark from a chain saw or hedge cutter, cigarettes etc and very few come from lightning. Both DH and I found we have been listening to the terrible news from CA with new ears since watching the programmes.
-
I'll have to find that Netflix documentary, feelingfeline - I live in a high fire danger area in Southern California. We were evacuated in 2003 and 2007. Those prisoner fire crews are amazing; they are also trained to work in removal of hazardous trees. When they are released from the prison program, they have a good chance of getting a great job. Thanks for sending your good thoughts across the sea!

I remembered the name of the documentary, it is called Firechasers. Definitely recommend it. Good luck keeping safe this fire season. XXX
-
I have heard many people say that the Indians used to burn the underbrush to make the game easier to see. What leads to these kinds of fires is undergrowth and grasses that are not removed. This fire seems especially scary considering that it's not all woods and really has moved fast. There's some speculation that a power line might have started it. My son was a volunteer 'city' fireman when he lived on the side of Mt. Hood. One thing he did was go from house to house discussing ways to protect the house in case of fire. I don't know if northern CA has them, but eucalyptus trees just turn into torches. They're all over the place in southern CA.
-
Someone here said during the Blow that "how could we live year after year with hurricane worry?" Mitigation against all but a direct hit high category is accomplishable.
Fire such a difference
For the brush as Wren mentioned, we do controlled burns all over Florida to mitigate fires. But the risk is getting out of control. Plus, we don't have the high winds that routinely come off the ocean that just whip those embers up and carry them further
I never heard of the prisoner program. Nice.
Bless you all in the west.
-
Queenie, Thanks
MamaRay. Sorry to of made you cry. The elephant in the room thing. Well, just tell that elephant to take a hike.
Blue when did you get the dx of pneumonitis?
-
Loverly, I love the cool pack mask. Also, good for Halloween?
Mari where are you
Hi Tapper too.
I was on a different thread, worked with someone from Sarajevo. Go figure.
-
Sas - on the high def CT of chest - ground glass opacities. And the report said from expected area of radiation for bc there was now pneumonitis. But yesterday RO said not pneumonitis from his radiation. ugh.
The fires, floods, hurricanes all so concerning for everyone not only in US but worldwide. Sometimes I cannot bear to look. But people need one another to get through. Thinking of all the people and those missing and the pets and animals. Heartrending.
Now on an antibiotic that is a pill but equal to an IV at hospital and a nasal spray. Hoping for the best and maybe even to avoid a bronch on Monday.
Have read everything - have to go to bed, up in 6 hrs tof MO appt. I'm bad, now 5 1/2 hrs.
-
Blue the doc didn't like the idea of the low dose Amitriptyline? Apparently not
HI Susie How's the trip going?.
-
Blue,
Pneumonitis or pulmonitis is an inflammation of lung tissue. Many factors can cause pneumonitis, including breathing in animal dander, aspiration, and receiving radiation therapy to the chest.
_______---
Makes me wonder if the radiation docs all have the same modus operandi. I have yet to hear any RO admit that radiation caused any of the side affects.

MammaR
Feline what are you doing to get ready? It looks like Ireland will be in the cone. With the North east counter clockwise rotating winds will be a problem for the entire island as it passes.

here is a link to a local station that you can click on for preparation lists.
http://www.mynews13.com//weather/hurricane-center-checklist.html
Check you meds. should have minimum 10 days for each drug.
Prepare important papers and valued memorabilia in a waterproof evacuation bag
200-400 in cash. Banks may be closed and ATMs may be down for days if electricity out. No electricity__cfredit cards can't be used
Gas the cars up today Have 3-5 5gallon gas containers.
Water purchase. This is the recommended 1 gallon per person per day, I found that to be high. Make ice. Test tub for water leak1. fill tub a couple inches and see if it holds.2. if it doesn't a simple rubber flat stopper from hardware works great. Fill 5-6 hours before storm gets there. Large containers can be used too. Think water to flush toilets
Food for 7 days. Minimum one nonelectric can opener. Canned goods of food you will like to eat after storm over. Baked beans in can are great. Sweet nourishing can be eaten hot or cold. Canned tuna and canned chicken and ham. Cleaning supplies, extra bleach 3-4 gallons. large trash bags. Do today shelves may even be empty soon b/c people panic buy when not knowing what to buy. TP for 3-4 weeks.
Clear garage to put cars in, clear furniture from outside, Today empty pool a few inches to allow water to soak into ground. Sand bags at doors.
The lists from the channel 13 link has more suggestion. The suggestion I put here should be done today. Tomorrow the forward rains may start and businesses will start to close.
Remember stick houses don't do well, but it is related to wind rate.
Several large water proof tarps for roof.
Hope the storm falls apart--good luck
