Take the Fright Out of Breast Cancer™

I hope the Mods are listening, since this issue is all over the various social media.
-
For what it's worth, traveltext, I shared that article on my fb page.
-
-
Are we still paying doctors to appear on tv showing women how to do self exams? I am so done with all this cutesy crap I could vomit. What about all the tumors you can't hope to possible discover.
This is so degrading.
-
Meow13 - spot on...
We routinely do wire localizations in radiology under direct imaging for lumpectomies...thousands and thousands and thousands of "lumps" which experienced breast surgeons need to be directed to??
It's not done for margins - they need to be shown WHERE it is because it is Hard to feel accurately.
One more thing to fear - if I missed my lump - is it my fault they did not get it early...
TravelText - thank you for posting!
-
And I hope they are listening - I guess will see next year.
-
I'm not able to open that article in either Firefox or Chrome, even with ad blockers disabled. I get a blank page with a social media tab, but nothing else.
-
Lausanne, the link is working still. Try just going to the underbelly website and looking for the article.
-
Doesn't work for me in Firefox or Chrome even with ad blocking disabled. Doesn't work from the link or from the main website. May not meet a security standard.
-
Works here: https://theunderbelly.org/
Then follow the link.
This is a major bc site with no security issues.
-
Just saw it, glad to see others as digusted as I am.
-
Thanks Traveltext.
KSusan, my Firefox had non problem with it, with ads disabled. But as to what that means, I might as well read off the back of the package of frozen peas.
-
The stories at Underbelly are very good. I read quite a few of them. Thanks Traveltext
-
I did not know about theUnderbelly.org cite - thanks.
-
Outfield, frozen peas are good for a quick cold compress too.🙃
-
The Underbelly folks are pretty radical and the postings usually edgy. Also, they have a closed Facebook page that you request to join. Closed FB pages are good because posts don't go to your contacts.
-
So, the BCO subsidiary site breasthealth.org is pushing on with the Halloween campaign. Here's their latest graphic encouraging the holding of a fundraising event.
-
Ok, I have my box of crayons here. I'm coloring over the hair to make the vampire bald. Next, I'm scribbling out the tuxedo because she/he can't afford one after paying all the co-pays for treatment. Now I'm drawing mastectomy scars on her/his chest. Finally, I'm giving the bats hovering near his/her ear speech bubbles that whisper "Recurrence!" and "Mets!" There. How's that?
What fun!
-
Disgusting and demeaning, but they DON'T CARE
-
This thought from theunderbelly.com

I do think that one cannot take the fright out of breast cancer, but maybe it is possible to take the fright out of yearly mammograms. Many of the articles concluded that women needed to be more diligent in getting mammograms and yes, fearful of the painful procedure. As an old timer I know that the technology has improved slightly, but not enough. How about focusing on that?
-
Tt, thanks. Today after about 30 seconds the article loads. I'm guessing there was a problematic ad loading the other day (Ghostery shows over 10 ads today, whereas when I tried before, it loaded only one before stalling).
-
Have a great fall weekend
-
I am convinced that even after all of us voicing the same things over and over, while getting what amounts to lip service from the mods, that they Do. Not. Care. about what we think.
Nor does BCO in general.
I feel like I'm losing my support line.
-
Here are some of the "events" connected to BCO this month.
I think I've lost my respect for BCO
-
Responding to JustJean's comment that the mods and BCO do not care what we think: I think that we the discussion board members are not the target of this fund raising campaign, so in a sense BCO indeed does not care about our views as long as the campaign brings in money from the outside donors they are targeting. I think that is shortsighted because our input is valuable, and BCO stands to lose respect and support for reasons we have discussed.
I do not know anything about how BCO operates, but I suspect the moderators do not have decision-making power regarding the campaign. They have probably been tasked with trying to quiet the annoying little people here on this thread, while the higher-ups continue with what they are doing.
-
Based in part on these discussions, I'll pass on clicking on 'donate'.
-
SP I think you've nailed it. Likely the money needed to run this $122 million a year operation Is mainly raised from corporate and public sources. These aren't people living with the disease, these are corporations earning a living from us, and people afraid they'll get the disease. Perfect targets.
Do the means justify the end? Obviously management thinks so, and they will likely take the road to riches before they satisfy us
-
The trouble is that nothing sells like THE TRUTH if you have the guts to look for it and take the time to tell it.
In my opionion the campaign is ill conceived ( what's with the vampire and bats but.. a little too sensitive to stick a person having a port put in on?) and weakly staged - unless you are under the influence of a fair amount of alcohol you seriously struggle to find one original thought that might have gone into it!
So apart from being dismissive of the needs of the very community they aim to serve,
the question of how much of a budget did this little party require ??
and who will be held responsible if projected budgets on donations will not be reached ?...
will probably never get an answer.
-
Ok maybe not the bats butt - but it would be just as relevant 😉
