Curious as to when your MO recommends getting a flu shot? They say it takes 2 weeks to be in your system fully but wondering if you can get it too early? Obviously, I want it to last into Spring 2018. My DH and two DSs will get it too.

    Thanks in advance

I'm in Australia and my MO tells me to get it as soon as they are available. It takes about 2 weeks for the antibodies to develop and provide protection, and you are covered for about 6 months after that. You can still get the flu even with the shot, I did this year, but it won't be as bad. You can get a second shot if the flu season lasts longer.

Southern, I don't always get a flu shot. However, this year my husband's employer has a healthy living program with financial incentives, and the spouse can earn a little money, too. All I had to do was take an on-line medical assessment, which took 15 minutes, and then attend a health fair at my husband's job last month. I got a free flu shot there.

Got my flu shot a week or so ago, as soon as I realized they were readily available. I believe sooner rather than later is better.

I'm on Ibrance. My MO said to get one the day before I start my new cycle. I want to be at my healthiest when I get it. My kids always get one too.

A wet tea bag helps with the soreness at the injection site. I always try to work that arm extra after my shot.

Thanks all for your insight. Since I just got chemo today and next Tuesday starts my off chemo week, I think i will wait until later next week when I'll feel better. That does make sense, Zills.

My whole family gets the flu shot every year and do far, we haven't gotten the flu. So we will keep up this "tradition!

I got mine last week at work. Didn't ask my onc about timing re: Xeloda. I just went for it. If you're immunosuppressed you likely need to worry some about timing, but I don't know how much.

For instance, they still recommend HIV patients get flu shots.

I asked my MO and I got my shot last week about 3 days before my first Ibrance. I had no reaction. I get one every year
